It seems the scanner-program itself is being renamed to VirusHammer. I
am holding any release until then.

Bug#133474: ITP: web100

2002-02-11 Thread Scott M. Dier

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

The Web100 project provides the software and tools necessary for
end-hosts to automatically and transparently achieve high bandwidth data
rates (100 Mbps) over the high performance research networks. This is
achieved through a combination of Linux kernel modifications and
userland tools. This package includes a library, libweb100, and a set
of both graphical and command-line tools to achieve these goals.

There is also a kernel patch to facilitate the utilities.

There are security implications to this software at the moment that will
be documented in the software description. (any user can modify settings
for any tcp connection) Therefore, its urged that it is only used in
controlled environments.

The bug has not been retitled, and Adam is not a DD yet so cannot upload
on his own. The fact that this bug remained mis-marked as important
rather than grave, and had no other comments against it, suggests to me
that a solution was not being worked on.

When Adam is ready to start doing package builds, I'll gladly defer to
him. In the meantime, I'm NMUing to get this RC bug fixed.

Bug#133511: ITP: hostap -- Host AP driver for Prism2 802.11b cards

2002-02-11 Thread Francois Gurin

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

http://people.ssh.com/jkm/Prism2/

This is a Linux driver for wireless LAN cards based on Intersil's
Prism2 chipset. The driver supports a so called Host AP mode, i.e.,
it takes care of IEEE 802.11 management functions in the host
computer and acts as an access point. This does not require any
special firmware for the wireless LAN card. In addition to this,
it has support for normal station operations in BSS and possible
also in IBSS.

Kismet is a 802.11b wireless network sniffer. It is capable of sniffing
using almost any wireless card supported in Linux, which currently divide
into cards handled by libpcap and the Linux-Wireless extentions (such as
Cisco Aironet), and cards supported by the Wlan-NG project which use the
Prism/2 chipset (such as Linksys, Dlink, and Zoom).

Kismet has a build dependancy on wiretap lib from the ethereal source

2002-02-11 Thread Adam Conrad
Steve,

Thanks for the NMU... Yes, I do intend to pick it up still, and I'll be
retitling the bug in the next couple of days when I know I'm good n'
ready... I need to talk to Petr about some things (like upstream
communication, package quirks, etc), and start on the NM process, blah
blah blah.

Reassigning it as a QA package for now seems to be the most sane thing
to do, I just hope it won't be necessary for long. :)

... Adam

(Wandering off to start checking things off the NM checklist, and email
some annoying questions to Petr..)
