dpkg -l

2000-11-27 Thread rp
Hi. Does someone knows if it is possible to show disk space taken by
some packages in a similar way to dpkg -l output?

This would make life easier to users who do not have unlimited disk space ;)

Cheers.

PAM authentication of users on specific date/time

2000-11-27 Thread rp

Does any one knows of some pam to authenticate users and also to
restrict login hours to some predefined date or time of the day?

Otherwise, is there any other way to do this?

Cheers,

Pcmcia CBEM56G

2000-11-29 Thread RP
Hi. There is something very strange (at least for me) in my woody
2.4.0-test11 box.
I have a Xircom CBEM56G PCMCIA card and I tried to install it using the
kernel PCMCIA drivers.

With cardmgr running, when I insert the card it shows in syslog:

executing: 'modprobe xircom_tulip_cb' (I already commented out all
tulip_cb in /etc/pcmcia/config. Also, changed tulip_cb to xircom_tulip_cb
int the appropriate entry)

after this, the module loads correctly (irq 11, eth0).
then, shows up:
executing: 'modprobe cb_enabler'
+ modprobe: Can't locate module cb_enabler (Of course. It is compiled in
the kernel)

...
executing: 'modprobe serial_cb'
loads correctly
executing: './network start tulip_cb' (What is this? Shouldn't be ./network
start eth0?)
ttyS02 at port 0x1480 (irq = 11) is a 16550A (I did excluded irq11 in
config.opts... at least, I think so...)

modprobe: Can't locate module tulip_cb
tulip_cb: unknown interface: No such device (should it be eth0?)
+ tulip_cb: error fetching interface information: Device not found.

Does someone knows what is going on?

Thanks in advance,
Cheers,

You don't need imwheel for most applications, just add:
ZAxisMapping4 5
in the "Pointer" section of your XF86Config

I have this in my XF86Config and the wheel does not work.
Maybe the reason for this is for using /dev/ttyS0 instead of a PS/2 port.
The protocol I am using is MouseMan. Tried with MouseManPlusPS/2 and the
mouse does not

move...
By the way, the mouse is wireless from logitech.
Any suggestion?

ifconfig eth0 promisc

It uses the tulip_cb module in the 2.2.0 kernel...

I am using it with 2.4.0-test11 and it works fine (on a Toshiba Satelite
Pro 460XCDT).

There is, although, a small detail... ;)
I am using the kernel driver (not the pcmcia-cs one) and:
the modem gets configured correctly.
the ethernet card does not. In syslog there is a complaint when cardmgr
executes /etc/pcmcia/network:
./network start tulip_cb: No such device (of course... it should be eth0).
If I manually change the file /var/lib/pcmcia/stab and replace tulip_cb
with eth0 and

manually execute ./network start, it works...

How does your network parameters get configured? Are u using hotplug support?

What actions? Based on the message
( https://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2019/01/msg00186.html ) it
looks like they came up with the verdict first and then started to
look for "evidence/actions" to justify the verdict. Pretty pathetic if
you ask me but whatever.

Regards,

It *could* look like it, but that's not it.

What happened is that DAM took a decision, which was challenged by some
Developers, among with some were willing to start a General Resolution
to overturn DAM's decision.

In that heated discussion, Ian decided to collect any bad interaction
between Norbert and any other person to disclose these before the GR
starts and is voted on.

As I already said, but you apparently decided to not read, Ian was not
part of the decision making at any part, and, apart from the others who
replied, two DAM members told him it wasn't fine.

You really should look the whole thread, instead of cherry-picking what
serves your idea.

Another case of people needing to be spoon fed.

Indeed. In the US, one can demand to read the archived emails of public
officials (not just mailing lists)

Why does Debian need "private" mailing lists? What is it hiding from the public?

Maybe taking it a bit too far but go ahead and file a lawsuit.  In the

Andrew,

I am very concerned by your message and the signal it seems to be
communicating. The links you provided do not seem to describe any sort
of boundary or misbehavior which appears to be at issue in deloptes's
message. The most egregious thing seems to be the continuation of an
off-topic thread. There many contributors to that particular problem in
this case in addition to delpotes.

Could you perhaps describe precisely what offense was caused or what
boundary was skirted in this instance?

In the future, messages such as yours would appear less menacing and
more constructive with this additional bit of information added.

Regards,

-Roberto

This whole thread has turned into a violation of the very first rule.
If you read Andrew's post, the first line says to "readers and
posters".  This is for everyone.

Issue: Slack no longer shows tray icon

2022-02-15 Thread RP

Putting it here in case someone needs it.

Issue: Slack no longer shows tray icon

Background: I user Slack and follow the usual workaround in order to
install the deb package:

    - download libindicator3-7
    - download libappindicator3-1
    - install slack-desktop

Problem: Started maybe a month or so ago - the tray icon doesn't show
anymore.  The app installs but no tray icon

Solution: use libayatana-appindicator3-1 instead of libappindicator3-1
by unpacking the slack deb file.

There's a script on github that does this exactly.
