mousepad kernel 2.6.0-test9
Hi, I installed the 2.6.0-test9-1-i386 kernel on my laptop HP ZE 5170 Pentium 4 512 MB ram 15 inch screen ATI Radeon mobility graphics card 32 MB Trident sound card The problem is that the mousepad stops working along with the sound card. I cheched lsmod. It shows mousedev but it is not used. I tried rmmod mousedev and then insmod mousedev but no effect. kudzu doesn't detect any new hardware either. I have a working 2.4.18-bf24 kernel which didn't need to be prodded for the mouse configuration. Can I do anything other than compiling the kernel. Should I be trying something else? Thanks a lot for all ur help. Panda -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

gaim problem
Hi, I am not very sure I should be sending this on this list. Please tell me if I am wrong. I installed gaim ( version 0.72 ) using aptitude. It shows my contacts on YM and MSN but the moment I click on one of them ( off or online ) gaim shuts down. I would send in a bug report but the message asks me if I am using the most recent version which I am not ( 0.74 ) Checking for new version with apt-get -t unstable does not find anything. I did not want to compile from source since it is much easier to keep the system up to date using apt. Has anybody faced any similar problems? I would like to install an addtional hard disk and extend the partitions on the current disk to the new disk. Is it possible to do so and are there any instructions avaliable on how to add and configure additional hard disks on Debian? I do not think you can actually extend the existing partitions - that is make them span the old and the new disks. However. you can install the new disk, use fdisk to create partitons on it and then move the data from some of the existing partitions to the new disk. Then you can mount the new partitons. This way you could, for instance, create a larger /home or /var or /usr etc. on the new disk to replace the partitons on the old disk. Once this is done, you could delete the old partions and use a tool such as parted or QTparted to resize the partitions on the old disk and make them larger also. HTH Lou Hi Actually her question brings up an interesting point. Suppose this needed to be done in a big corporation where it is necessary to maintain some level of service and the question of scalability is a very important one. They would prefer some means of doing the same adding disks to the system to allow for greater storage with minimal disruption. It would be really costly if they had to resort to something like copy everything and then resize. panda -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? network card fail after MS update
Hi people, Just wanted to bring to ur notice something I had read elsewhere. It seems that when security patches from MS are applied the eeprom registers on the network card are sometimes set. After this the card stops working under debian. I encountered this problem on 2 machines. googling gave me the links below and I installed mii-diag ( apt-get ) and then flashed the eeprom. After some trial and error and one reboot the network started working on one of the machines. Both the machines run debian woody stable. The etc/network/interfaces looks like auto lo iface lo inet loopback iface eth0 inet dhcp iface eth1 inet dhcp Previously I used to get the message autonegotiation failed from dhclient. The driver for which it worked is natsemi ( Nat Semi D83815 ) and the other one is dmfe. Here are the links http://www.knoppix.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2164 http://www.scyld.com/diag/index.html I have RH also on the box with natsemi and somehow it seems to override this problem. Why can't we have this on debian? sorry for the long mail but hope this helps some people. thanks panda -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? A quick Google Groups (that never sounds as good as "DejaNews" did) turned up this: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=51269 So, apparently, ical was pulled from Debian in early 2001 because it was dead upstream, orphaned, and nobody wanted to take it over. I don't know why, specifically, it got bounced from your machine, but I'd assume it was because it depended on old libraries or old Tcl/Tk infrastructure or whatever, which got upgraded when you went to sid. -c (I used to use ical myself, as well) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
