  Eric,

First of all, if you compiled 2.4.20, make sure that you built both of
those drivers either directly into the kernel, or as modules. Judging
by how you phrased your question, you're expecting them as modules, so
go back and double check that.

What do you mean by "like AC97, I put it in /etc/modules"? What
module did you load into /etc/modules? If it was just ac97_codec,
then sound won't work as that sits on top of another driver. Because
this is an Intel board, I would try the i810_audio module, and if that
doesn't work, find out more about the name of the card and try ALSA.
(Note, in order for ALSA to work under 2.4.20, you need to apply the
patch from the bug page for it as the ALSA team expected a change in
USB handling in 2.4.20 that didn't come.)

As for the eepro NIC, make sure that you have it selected and build a
module for it. I suggest putting this in /etc/modutils/aliases,
thereby having the kernel module automaticlly load, but that's up to
you. (It will work just fine in /etc/modules too.)

My integrated sound (Intel 82801BA-ICH2) is AC97 based, and I had zero
problems with it when the machine came preinstalled with Windows XP,
and when I had to reinstall XP when it barfed all over itself. (This
was a friend's computer at the time, and then I bought it from him.)

I would recommend that you change the permissions on /dev/mixer back
to what they were, and instead add your user to the audio group
("addgroup eric audio"), then log out and back in. I'm confident that
this by itself is not sufficient to solve your problems.

What's the output of "lspci"?
And "lsmod"?

(may be sytax is wrong, have any opinion? do see man page have its
syntax on the option feature)

some say newest kernel 2.5.50 can solve all above hardware(intel board
on board LAN and audio ) problem, so I download full tar.gz, choose what
my hardware fit
make install

error happen, I justify one of it, first one, in
linux-2.4.50/include/asm-i386/io_apic.h
containing sis_apic_bug not include its .h file

then re do make install
still error, this time I have no clue

What is the name of the directory containing your kernel source? For the
patch to work without typing in every filename, you could rename the
source's directory to linux.50

I download as enduser for example to /home/fsshl
linux-2.5.50.tar.gz
then I tar xfvz linux-2.5.50.tar.gz
it generate a directory linux-2.5.50 in my /home/fsshl
then I follow README in linux-2.5.50 to do unpatch the another
downloaded patch-2.5.50-ac1.gz from kernel.org

www:/home/fsshl# gzip -cd patch-2.5.50-ac1.gz | patch -p1
can't find file to patch at input line 4
Perhaps you used the wrong -p or --strip option?
The text leading up to this was:
--
|diff -u --new-file --recursive --exclude-from /usr/src/exclude
linux.50/arch/alpha/defconfig linux.50-ac1/arch/alpha/defconfig
|--- linux.50/arch/alpha/defconfig 2002-11-25 15:11:47.0 +
|+++ linux.50-ac1/arch/alpha/defconfig  2002-12-03 20:54:30.0 +
--
File to patch:

so the name of directory containing my kernel source should be /home/fsshl

in the promt of File to patch:
I tried both patch-2.5.50-ac1.gz and linux-2.5.50.tar.gz all not work

the line
gzip -cd patch-2.5.50-ac1.gz | patch -p1
in that readme doc should do
gzip -cd patch-2.5.50-ac1.gz | patch -p0
but someone in [EMAIL PROTECTED] told me

probably cannot use it on debian woody. it is linked against glibc 2.0
which is really old. I think debian hamm(1998) was the most recent version
of debian to sport glibc 2.0

You should be modifying /etc/apache/httpd.conf (unless you have built the

According to the documentation for apache 1.3 - you should be loading

otherwise, this is the line from my httpd.conf:

LoadModule dir_module /usr/lib/apache/1.3/mod_dir.so

then, somewhere in your httpd.conf you should also include the following

DirectoryIndex index.html index.htm index.shtml index.cgi

As far as your cgi's are concerned, debianized system would often keep its
cgi scripts in /usr/lib/cgi-bin - but you should make sure that your
httpd.conf has appropriate entries for cgi's:

LoadModule cgi_module /usr/lib/apache/1.3/mod_cgi.so

ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ /usr/lib/cgi-bin/

AllowOverride None
Options ExecCGI
Order allow,deny
Allow from all

otherwise, this is the line from my httpd.conf:

LoadModule dir_module /usr/lib/apache/1.3/mod_dir.so

then, somewhere in your httpd.conf you should also include the following

This 'should do the trick'.

As far as your cgi's are concerned, debianized system would often keep its

LoadModule cgi_module /usr/lib/apache/1.3/mod_cgi.so

Re: from intel onboard Lan and audo to install 2.4.50

2002-12-10 Thread eric lin

some say newest kernel 2.5.50 can solve all above hardware(intel board
on board LAN and audio ) problem, so I download full tar.gz, choose what
my hardware fit
make install

Use make-kpkg in the kernel-package package.

I did,

if someone know it be modifed, please drop me a note where I can get the
fixed source.
it's on 2.5.50.ac-1 patched 2.5.50 from kernel.org
hihgly apprecaite

error happen, I justify one of it, first one, in
linux-2.4.50/include/asm-i386/io_apic.h
containing sis_apic_bug not include its .h file

As Colin already said, if you can't handle this, you shouldn't be using
2.5 kernels. Some of them don't build, and many (most) have serious
bugs that could cause data loss. If you want to go ahead with this,
you'll have to get help from lkml, but be prepared to be thoroughly
roasted.

also I have difficult(unsuccess) patch 2.5.50
I did
gzip -cd patch-2.5.50-ac1.gz | patch -p0

The easiest way to do this is to just use a dos or windows boot floppy.

Re: Apache/DSL Modem/Port Forwarding

2003-09-03 Thread eric lin
Thanks your reply,

the following is this dsl modem's advance setup

  # WAN IP Address
# Wireless Settings
# LAN IP Address
# DHCP Server
# Services Blocking
# Website Blocking
# VPN Pass Through
# Remote Management
# Port Forwarding
# DMZ Hosting
# Firewall
# Dynamic Routing
# NAT
# Static Routing
# MAC Address Cloning

I believe I modify back from my apache server's httpd.conf
listen 70 back to 80,
also no Port Forwaring
my static ip is 209.180.184.93

you might try any way, I tried telnet (my ip)
it have login prompt, but that seem very little to help me to my goal broadcast
webpage.

also I can not guess how to configure or modify the setting so the modem configure
page can be moved out from port 80

that's why actiontec support ask me to update firmware, but it only have window file
no linux tar file

looking advancer sharing your opinion

sincere Eric

Dear Christian:

In modem's configure menu's port forwarding, I make
it pass 60 to 90 port at both tcp and udp and ip
address 192.168.0.2(private, I can see it from my
ifconfig) and 209.180.184.93(leased static ip from
qwest.net) at advanced setting

and in /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf , change listen 80
to listen 70

 in my /etc/hosts
I have, and only have loop back 127.0.0.1 localhost

the result now is

http://209.180.184.93 or www.linuxspc.dyndns.org
show my modem config page

http://209.180.184.93:70 or www.linuxspc.dyndns.org:70
connection refused when attempting to
209.180.184.93:70

http://localhost
connection refused when sttempting to connect
localhost

http://localhost:70
immediated show my apache test page

-
under such phenonan , how do I make
http://209.180.184.93 or www.linuxspc.dyndns.org
immediate pop out my apache test page
?

I used apache 2, linux kernel 2.4.20-6(redhat 9)

You have two problems, as I understand:
First, your apache doesn't seem to feed index.html when you access

put your index.html file into /var/www and then, using your favorite

checkout directory - meaning one (or several) of the following:
a) your checkout directory isn't readable/executable by www-data user

b) your directory is misconfigured in httpd.conf
c) you have an .htacess file within the directory that changes apache's
behavior upon access of the checkout directory.

If your /var/www/index.html _isn't_ displayed by the browser when you
access
www.linuxspice.com then there could be other problems. In that case -
increase the loglevel inside your httpd.conf and examine your logs during
apache's restart.

Your second problem is that your cgi isn't found, when accessed from
within
your html file. First off, make sure that the domain name actually
resolves
by your apache; you might wanna reference your cgi otherwise...
Check yout httpd.conf for spelling errors (no one is perfect)
Make sure that your cgi-bin directory is accessable by www-data group and
your cgi script is executable and readable by www-data.

Also, when I accessed www.linuxspice.com/checkout - it became evident
that
some page got loaded (look at the source). I suspect that your index.html
file is erreneous. First off - there are no tags inside framesets.
Framesets are comprised of definitions of frames. is seperate
from framesets.

Internal Server Error

means the CGI program did not work when the webserver tried to execute
it. There is a big tutorial about CGIs in the docs that came with
apache. Read that first, it explains this very point. Basic tips:

- test the program form the command line,
- check it outputs a CGI header before any other data
- does it work as the apache user (esp. if it has to write files etc.)
- does it have all the ENVs it needs (remember that it runs in a reduced
shell as apache user).

This is a problem with your CGI and not with apache - apache is working
perfectly which is why you get the 500 error :-)

Owen Boyle

the first thing to check in a case like this is the apache error
log (probably logs/error_log under the apache serverroot). next
is to try to run the script from the command line, though that's
somewhat difficult with the cgi module. try these and see what
messages you get; they'll be key to figuring out what to do next.

Wrong path to your perl executable in the script you are using.

Type the following:
#which perl

And then replace that path with the one that you have in the script in
question. (chances are you are using something like /usr/bin/perl) If
that doesn't work then you don't have a perl executable in your $PATH.
Try the following and it should find it.

#find / -name perld

This is a new one...

First of all, can you do this:

$ /usr/lib/postgresql/bin/pg_encoding 2
EUC_CN

If that is OK, try (as user postgres):

$ pg_encoding 2

If that fails, the search path is wrong; /etc/postgresql/postgresql.env
(from package postgresql-client) needs to be sourced by postgres's
.profile

this step I failed, both as root and end-user,
so how should I modify?(at /etc/postgresql/postgresql.env ? or anywhere
to do anything?)

please help again

If that works, make sure $PGDATA is empty and owned by postgres, or
non-existent and able to be created by postgres. Then (change C and
SQL_ASCII to suit your site):

$ LANG=C initdb --debug --pgdata $PGDATA --encoding SQL_ASCII

This will produce a lot of output, but it should indicate what is going
wrong. Post the relevant bits.

If you're lost on basics of Perl (e.g. what $, %, and @ mean before
variable names, how $foo, $foo{bar}, %foo are related, etc.) you might
want to spend a lot of time reading the Perl documentation, and/or
buying one of the O'Reilly Perl books if you're into dead trees. 'man
perlintro' might be informative, along with reading some of the other
man pages listed in 'man perl'. Also, to get documentation on a
specific Perl package, you can do e.g. 'perldoc CGI'.

Dear advanced webprogramers or linuxer:

Could we using c replace perl in cgi programming?

Sure, nothing's intrinsically tied to Perl at all. Look at
http://hoohoo.ncsa.uiuc.edu/cgi/overview.html for the CGI
specification, including a listing of the environment variables that
could be set.

I tried a simple c program(although it not compile write)
to parse the name and value it inherate from visitor hit the submit form

#include

int main()
{
 extern char name[][];
 extern char value[][];

 printf("Content-type: text/html\n\n");
 printf("\n");
 printf("the price fo ", name[1], " equal ", value[1], "\n");
 printf("");
}

--

Well, sure, where do you expect name and value to actually be defined?
(I don't think 'extern' is allowed to modify local variables in any
case.) You also might look for C CGI libraries if this would make you
happy; there seems to be a libcgicg1-dev package in unstable, which
appears to provide the right functionality.

may be after I install what you recommand's libcgicg1-dev package
it have test-cgi in my /usr/lib/cgi-bin/ so I change my
/var/www/index.html's form point to it

http://www.linuxspice.com//cgi-bin/test-cgi";>

after I use my browser to hit the submit bottom, it show Forbidden

You don't have permission to access //cgi-bin/test-cgi on this server.

Neither Java nor JavaScript is a worthwhile language in my opinion. Perl
is fine, but you'll never get anywhere in any language by not reading
the documentation. Put another way, you can get it wrong in any
language; don't blame the language for it.

See 'man perl' and the many documents to which it refers.

See 'man CGI'.

Try setting in the environment REQUEST_METHOD=GET and QUERY_STRING to
whatever the browser sends,

so that is my /var/www/index.html (form field?)

but that is not correct or good enough, I still expect the print out the
name field i collect from visitor(ie CPU, motherboard, harddisk, etc...)
and value field( the price of cpu, motherboard, harddisk, etc...)

It looks like it works fine to me. Maybe your form's wrong, I have no
idea.

If you're doing e-commerce, you might be better off hiring a consultant
rather than sending half a dozen nearly-identical messages a day to
debian-user.

if your referring to blocking according to the referrer header, this is
possible, most sites don't do it. If you are certain your loading the

"304" is not an error. In response to a conditional GET request, Apache
is saying that the document has not been changed.

"404" is saying that *at the requested URL* the document was not found.
Given your history, I suspect malformed URL in the anchor, or the
document is differently named or located on your server.

That means your Web server isn't running. '/etc/init.d/apache start'
as root; if it fails, error messages might be in /var/log/apache
somewhere.

[Based on your previous posts, I don't have any particular reason to

a basic clue before you start asking questions on strange tangents on

Trolling. Eric, you are really good! Cross-posting to five lists now,
maybe more.

Look, linuxspice.com points to your DNS provider and they are doing lame
frame-based forwarding. So you cannot use http://linuxspice.com/photo.jpg
you have to use relative linkes.

Did you get that?

You cannot use this in your web page:

   http://linuxspice.com/photo.jpg";>

you have to use

because linuxspice.com does NOT point to your machine, it points to a
machine that fowards to your machine via frames.

Any link of the form http://linuxspice.com/anything will fail do to the
way ItsYourDomain.com has your site setup.

Get yourself a real web server on a static IP and not on a slow DSL
connection, and hire a contractor.

Dear Bill

   Thanks your replying,
when I register domain, that comapany also offer free binding, so it is
that regertar do the binding ip and www.mycompany.com for me.

so , now I want to use http://www.mycompany.com/photo.jpg

then what kind of setting I should do? and do I need to inform that

You had a mysterious closing tag for which there was no opening
tag. This wasn't your main problem, though. The URL you were trying to
reference in your img tag was no good (404 Not Found). From looking at
http://www.linuxspice.com I guess you intended to use the URL given
above. If you want an example of how to reference an image with an
absolute URL, just look at the source of
http://www.linuxspice.com/index.html, since all of their images appear
to be coming from 64.91.61.186, and are all specified with absolute
URLs.

Here's how to fish for the future:

This mailing list is intended for community support for Debian
GNU/Linux. As it is extraordinarily high-traffic already, we would
appreciate that everyone try to limit posts here to on-topic questions
(somehow related to Debian), and take other questions to more
appropriate fora.

good times,

your apache config does not contain named virtual hosts, so your problem is
in the fact that the ip for:

ServerName www.linuxspice.com

is not

Listen 64.91.61.186:80

So this means if you specify http://www.linuxspice.com/case.jpg it will not be the
same as http://64.91.61.186/case.jpg, unless you are on a host which has set up this
wrong name mapping, because it is http://63.85.86.80/case.jpg.

Greetings
Bernd

so if I want that http://www.linuxspice.com/case.jpg";>

# VirtualHost: Allows the daemon to respond to requests for more than one
# server address, if your server machine is configured to accept IP packets
# for multiple addresses. This can be accomplished with the ifconfig
# alias flag, or through kernel patches like VIF.

# Any httpd.conf or srm.conf directive may go into a VirtualHost command.
# See also the BindAddress entry.

#ServerName host.some_domain.com
#ErrorLog /var/log/apache/host.some_domain.com-error.log
#TransferLog /var/log/apache/host.some_domain.com-access.log

you mean www. or static put that in URL of browser it all work,
or
you mean configure named or ipv6 or bind and run them? No, although in
boot time I see the prompt debian or progeny make it run , so setting is
default(and I do not know what kind config they are)

I ever email register, but I think I had better solve it by myself in
linux box.
