X - AdiProvista VD-484 and S3Virge GX/2

2002-10-31 Thread Kim Christiansen
Hi all,

Am having difficulties configuring the above into a Potato box.

I believe the card isn't the problem (ie 525 on the list in xconfigure)
4Mb Card

I believe hsync = 30 - 54
vsync = 50-60

If anyone can point me somewhere it would be a great help-
cheers

Re: deleting directory

2002-10-31 Thread Kim Christiansen
rm -rf directory is definately way to go ...
though before you press enter count to 5 and ensure you haven't typed

rm -rf / (potential to say goodbye to everything )

If unsure try rm -rif /path/directory

at least you may save yourself a small heartache.

cheers

-ri, surely? -f and -i are opposites.

X (Svirge GX/2 Or Monitor)? problem

2002-12-05 Thread Kim Christiansen
Hi,

I have been trying every where but keep hitting dead ends for the past 4 - 5 months...
in other areas on web etc (Hack, hack, hack)

(I accept I don't know what I'm doing but I posted a log file below)

I have an ADI Provist monitor CD 484 (Which I can't find any specs for ... So how can
I determine the Hsync / Vsync - even the readme requires you to know some specs and
there is no documentation on this monitor)

I have taken xdm out of /etc/init.d and since then I don't get a log file any more for
errors... can anyone help?

I have potato installed and also woody available but I thought I should at least get
something working. What should I do?

TIA
Kim

Woody - New Install Chroot Failure

2002-10-01 Thread Kim Christiansen

Hi,

Have started with fresh machine and with Debian 3.0 Pressed disks.
I have tried various configurations with partitions on a 1.4G drive and still getting
stuck with various stages of install.

ALL msg say:
Failure trying to run: chroot /target dpkg --force-depends --install
/var/cache/apt/archives/base-files_3.0.2_i386.deb
/var/cache/apt/archives/base-passwd_3.4.1_i386.deb

Console windows say similar.

Could this be caused by a dirty CD? (Have cleaned it several times. Am lost and
really want my woody to work.

Any ideas anywhere?
Thanks in advance

Kim

Woody - New Install Chroot Failure .. segmentation fault

2002-10-01 Thread Kim Christiansen

More info...
it seems to have a segmentation fault occuring at the time installing
"/var/lib/dpkg/info/base-files.postinst segmentation fault chown root.staff $1
2>/dev/null"

I am doing an automatic install with nothing else (no network or devices added just
raw base install)

cheers
