If you had you'd have know that you can do update-grub to setup your menu.lst. :-) Chris -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? I recently did a clean install of woody and then immediately upgrading to sid and had the same issue when installing X. According to the status messages they're migrating configuring X way from the former method. I ended up just installing version -6 (-10 is the current) of xserver-common and using apt-get to grab the rest of the packages and then manually installing xserver-xfree86 -6, configuring it, and then upgrading it. Likely far easier ways to handle this but 1) I didn't have an old XF86Config handy and 2) It was 4:30 am and I was too tired to think of another. --Chris pgp0.pgp Description: PGP signature

The only caveat is that it does not yet support any sort of cookies or authentication. If that is a necessity your best bet is probably the Crossover plugin from Codeweavers. I believe there are similar types of plugins for Xine but I don't have any experience with them. --Chris pgp0.pgp Description: PGP signature

You could boot the kernel in single user mode which should cause the display manager not to be started and then disable or remove its init.d script. Or if you have an OpenSSH server running on the box you could login that way from another machine and shut down the display manager. --Chris pgp0.pgp Description: PGP signature
Re: ALSA and ThinkPad 560
ALSA works perfectly on my Thinkpad A20p. You may want to check out www.linux-thinkpad.org (although it seems to be down at the moment) which has a long list of links describing how to install and configure the various eccentric drivers in the different Thinkpad models. --Chris On Friday 24 November 2000 16:10, Pollywog wrote: > I replaced the commercial OSS drivers in my desktop machine with the ALSA > drivers, and it works great. Re: ALSA and ThinkPad 560
No, that's a different one. www.linux-thinkpad.org is apparently down as I said in my previous email though. :-) Google may have a cached copy, though. Re: UNIX help
The Unix Administrator's Handbook by Evi Nemeth, et al is the way and the light for learning Unix Administration. O'Reilly's Unix Power Tools (2nd ed) is excellent for learning neat tricks for basic commands. Re: Laptops for Debian GNU/Linux?
I've had great experiences with my Thinkpad 770E and a20p. Although, you will have to run XFree86 4.0.1 on the a20p for best performance. Re: Wireless Access Point

I am looking for value for money, who doesn't :-) and needs to have allot of security capabilities such as WEP, WPA, WPA- Pres hared Key and preferably RSN (do they come out with this). The reason is I'm am doing a project and need to test and break wireless security. Most new access points have the "g" as appose to the "b" specifications. Any suggestions? I have a Netgear MR814 that I know does 802.11b, WEP and WPA-PSK. I'm at work so I can't verify if it can do WPA or RSN. Haven't had any issues with it at all thus far. I'm using a Cisco Aironet 340 in the laptop and it was detected and worked flawlessly with my 2.6.8.1 kernel. Picked both up off eBay for a total of $40. --Chris -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
