xconsole problem
I am running Debian Linux 2.2r6. When I try to open an xconsole from the menu, it opens up with the message: "Couldn't open xconsole" With help from linux newsgroups, I did the following: As root: rm /dev/xconsole mknod -m 666 /dev/xconsole p As user: xconsole -file /dev/xconsole 2>&1 & kill -SIGHUP `cat /var/run/syslogd.pid` Now I start receiving messages on the xconsole and I can echo messages to it as root and as user. Next, I run a servlet which is suppossed to send messages to xconsole but it doesn't. (There are no errors in the servlet program.) How can I fix this problem? Its a nasty problem. Thanks for you help. Anand __ Do you Yahoo!? New DSL Internet Access from SBC & Yahoo! http://sbc.yahoo.com -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Using LILO to boot Linux/Win98
Hi All, I am trying to set up LILO to boot Win98. I have the following setup: I have installed Linux on one HD (two partitions with Linux on 2nd part.), Win98 on a second HD (one partition). I can boot up on both OS with one of the HD connected as active. Next I set up the Linux HD as A (active) and Win98 HD as B (standby). My /etc/lilo.conf file looks like this: boot=/dev/hda delay=10 #Linux stanza image=/vmlinuz root=/dev/hda2 label=Linux #Win98 stanza other=/dev/hdb1 tabel=/dev/hdb label=Win98 I can boot up with Linux, but with Win98 the system just hangs, no error messages. How can I fix this problem? Thanks for your help. Anand __ Do you Yahoo!? Re: Using LILO to boot Linux/Win98
I tried it with removing "table" but its the same problem with windoze. If I want to try with Win98 on HDA and Linux on HDB, how do I put LILO in the MBR of /dev/hda? What should boot point to in that case? BTW, it is table and not "tabel" in the file, otherwise I would have got errors when I ran lilo. Re: Using LILO to boot Linux/Win98
I understand the lilo.conf file you suggested. Only problem is that when I edit the file with Linux on HDA, I have to uncomment the Win98 part, otherwise I get errors running "lilo". BTW, I have lba32. On booting up with Win98 on HDA and Linux on HDB it goes to Win98 without any choice. If I disconnect HDA, LILO tries to start booting Linux but doesn't go anywhere (due to boot=/dev/hda ??). Looks like catch-22 trying to switch around...How do I get around it? Thanks to all for helping out. Re: Using LILO to boot Linux/Win98
I reinstalled Linux on HD B with HD A attached. Next I edited the etc/lilo.conf file as shown below. This worked!! and I can now boot both Win98 and Linux! I guess it put LILO in the MBR of /dev/hda (Win98). There are ways suggested to go aroung reinstalling Linux but the above worked for me. Thanks to all for helping.
