Bug#289720: krdc: could not start rdesktop
> after upgrading my system krdc no longer works > > I used to be able to connect to a local Windows machine, now the > connection dialog comes up but when I try to connect I get the message > > Could not start rdesktop; make sure rdesktop is properly installed. > > I have tried re-installing the package and still get the same problem. The package `krdc' *recommends* the package `rdesktop'. Is the package installed? If not, and it works after installing it, I'll close this bug. Quoting from the policy: -->8-- Recommends This declares a strong, but not absolute, dependency. The Recommends field should list packages that would be found together with this one in all but unusual installations. -->8-- IIRC, apt-get shows which packages are recommended to install when installing a package. If not, you should probably use aptitude or dselect. */ Christoffer Sawicki <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#289189: Change Recommends to Requires
> Change Recommends to Requires It's actually Depends... > I think that IMAP access is pretty fundamental to KMail. Yes, I agree. However, the definitions of Depends and Recommends are pretty clear: --- Depends This declares an absolute dependency. A package will not be configured unless all of the packages listed in its Depends field have been correctly configured. The Depends field should be used if the depended-on package is required for the depending package to provide a significant amount of functionality. The Depends field should also be used if the postinst, prerm or postrm scripts require the package to be present in order to run. Note, however, that the postrm cannot rely on any non-essential packages to be present during the purge phase. --- Recommends This declares a strong, but not absolute, dependency. The Recommends field should list packages that would be found together with this one in all but unusual installations. --- As a normal user, one should install all recommended packages unless there's a particular reason against it. > If it's not going > to pop up a message saying something to the effect of "You can't check mail > across this type of protocol without installing the kdepim-kio-plugins > package" then kdepim-kio-plugins should be installed by default along with > KMail. That could be a good idea. That said, I would personally not mind kmail depending on kdepim-kio-plugins, but that's not my decision to make. Bug#379956: O: gtk-qt-engine -- theme engine using Qt for GTK+ 2.x
Package: wnpp Severity: normal I'm hereby orphaning the gtk-qt-engine package because of loss of interest and free time. Not being a Debian developer has also made the maintainership a bit troublesome for me. I've asked the Debian developers I know if they were willing to adopt the package, but I could not find anyone that was. The software has some quirks (see the BTS) but upstream recently released a new version (after a very long time of inactivity) that supposedly fixes some things. Also, the package in Ubuntu has got some tweaks that could be useful. It would be nice if the adopter had some GTK+ and Qt skills, but it's definitely not a requirement. Cheers, -- Christoffer Sawicki -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.8-2-686 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Re: Bug#277582: ITP: kwin-baghira -- A MacOSX-like theme for Apple junkies ;)
IMHO, the following names makes most sense since they 1) tell where the theme/style/icons/whatever is/are used 2) follow some current "naming schemes" [0] qt-styles-foobar kwin-decorations-foobar kde-icons-foobar The construction of these package names is pretty clear. [0] - Packages currently in the Debian archive: 2 - kde-icons-crystal - Crystal icon theme for KDE 21 - gtk-engines-begtk - BeOS-like theme for GTK+ 20 - gtk2-engines-cleanice - CleanIce themes for GTK+ 2.x ^ (Number of packages following this naming scheme) Yes, I'm aware of that this argument is not perfectly valid since some packages could be renamed to comply with a better naming scheme. ----- */ Christoffer Sawicki <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
