Also please note that Qt 5.5 and even more so 5.5.1 will likely will likely
fix a lot of multi screen related issues. It is not yet in unstable and not
yet complete. There is a gcc transition taking place and Lisandro intends to
get it in after this transition.

Hmm, yes. I have no idea about it. Would be good for an upstream bug report I
think.

Hmmm, I used DrKonqi only as it was popped automatically. So you don´t get a
DrKonqi at the crash at startup? It would help creating backtraces.

Anyway, it may be wise to just retest with Qt 5.5. Maybe the issue is fixed
already.

nope. Maybe I get it, but that does not help as the whole session crashes and
returns to the display manager. So if DrKonqi gets it, it will never show long
enough before the rest dies.

Ok.

I got the impression that somehow this is related to attaching *two* new
screens at the same time, which is the case when ounting the notebook into the
docking station. Maybe this leads to some kidn of race condition.

Well, feel free to report the bug upstream if you think it you have an unusual
setup. I just read by upstream and Lisandro that Qt 5.5 and even more so 5.5.1
fixed quite some mutiple screens related issues. I am not sure whether it
fixes yours.

Unfortunately, the gcc5 transition started before I could upload this, so it
may be awhile before it hits the archive. The change is in the pkg-qt/kde git
repository for the next kwin upload and in the meantime, people can create the
symlink by hand to run the new kwin with KDE4.

Although the package name is kwin-x11, the binary is kwin_x11.

Depending on how you're running kwin your likely to have better results if you
wait for today's updates (which should include KDE 4 -> Plasma 5 if you're
doing this in KDE). If you aren't running it from inside KDE, there should
also be an updated kwin that sets /etc/alternatives/x-window-manager
correctly. Finally, if you stay on KDE4, add a symlink from /usr/bin/kwin_x11
to /usr/bin/kwin and that should help. That will be included in the next kwin
upload, but we're now caught up in the gcc5 transition, so it may be awhile
before that's uploaded.

If any of those thing help, please close the bug as we've got others that
cover those cases.

Could you check with "ldd /usr/bin/qweborf".
That'll shows which Qt library is used.

The Debian qt4-x11 build looks for plugins in /usr/lib//qt4/plugins.
That's why it loads the breeze style even when the path is not explicitly listed
in QT_PLUGIN_PATH.

Cheers,
Felix

It even looks like the debian patch in 4.14.2-2

Updated Akonadi 1.13 packages

2015-07-31 Thread Martin Steigerwald
Hello!

Any chance for updated Akonadi 1.13 packages? I used 1.13 branch from git with
all revisions up to 9c0dc6b3f0826d32eac310b2e7ecd858ca3df681 for months with
great results.

Now since KDE Framework 5 / Plasma 5 it doesn´t load it from /usr/local
anymore and I removed it from there then. So it uses the packaged one and it
shows:

I get the same performance related issues I had without using newer self-
compiled Akonadi 1.13 branch. The MySQL performance fixes in there really make
a *huge* difference.

I think Akonadi 1.13 at least up to the version I tested is quite safe. I have
a gigantic local mail setup (> one million mails in local maildir in more than
100 folders) and it worked much more faster and reliable than the one
currently packaged in Debian.

Thank you for considering.

Of course I can also try to find out how I can make

martin@merkaba:~> cat .kde/env/kdedirs.sh
#!/bin/bash
if [ -z $KDEDIRS ]; then
export KDEDIRS="/usr/local/"
else
export KDEDIRS="/usr/local/:$KDEDIRS"
fi

if [ -z $QT_PLUGIN_PATH ]; then
export QT_PLUGIN_PATH="/usr/local/lib/kde4"
else
export QT_PLUGIN_PATH="/usr/local/lib/kde4:$QT_PLUGIN_PATH"
fi

work with Plasma 5.

If an updated Akonadi release is needed, I can try request one with upstream.

Thank you,

Martin

Hello,

after last updates I can't see windows decorations anymore. I try deleting
plasma configuration files but nothing changes.

Running "kwin-x11 --replace" I get:

Not *now*, the gcc5 transition has just started. Please ping us again when it
ends (or in a week, maybe on irc too).

Sure. Wasn´t meant to do it right now. I understand that you want to wait
still the gcc5 transition is completed.

2015-07-31 Thread Lisandro Damián Nicanor Pérez Meyer
The good news are that I have built qt4-x11 against gcc5 and everything went
fine as expected.

So closing this bug, a binNMU should be enough :)

Package: src:qt4-x11
Version: 4.8.7+dfsg-1
Severity: important
Tags: sid stretch
User: debian-...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: libstdc++-cxx11

Background [1]: libstdc++6 introduces a new ABI to conform to the
C++11 standard, but keeps the old ABI to not break existing binaries.
Packages which are built with g++-5 from experimental (not the one
from testing/unstable) are using the new ABI. Libraries built from
this source package export some of the new __cxx11 or B5cxx11 symbols,
and dropping other symbols. If these symbols are part of the API of
the library, then this rebuild with g++-5 will trigger a transition
for the library.

What is needed:

 - Rebuild the library using g++/g++-5 from experimental. Note that
most likely all C++ libraries within the build dependencies need
a rebuild too. You can find the log for a rebuild in
 https://people.debian.org/~doko/logs/gcc5-20150701/
Search for "BEGIN GCC CXX11" in the log.

 - Decide if the symbols matching __cxx11 or B5cxx11 are part of the
library API, and are used by the reverse dependencies of the
   library.

 - If there are no symbols matching __cxx11 or B5cxx11 in the symbols
forming the library API, you should close this issue with a short
   explanation.

 - If there are no reverse dependencies, it should be the package
maintainers decision if a transition is needed. However this might
break software which is not in the Debian archive, and built
   against these packages.

 - If a library transition is needed, please prepare for the change.
Rename the library package, append "v5" to the name of the package
   (e.g. libfoo2 -> libfoo2v5). Such a change can be avoided, if you
have a soversion bump and you upload this version instead of the
renamed package. Prepare a patch and attach it to this issue (mark
this issue with patch), so that it is possible to NMU such a
package. We'll probably have more than hundred transitions
triggered. Then reassign the issue to release.debian.org and
properly tag it as a transition issue, by sending an email to
   cont...@bugs.debian.org:

 user release.debian@packages.debian.org
 usertag + transition
 block by 790756
 reassign release.debian.org

 - If unsure if a transition is needed, please tag the issue with help
to ask for feedback from other Debian developers.

The libstdc++6 transition will be a large one, and it will come with a
lot of pain. Please help it by preparing the follow-up transitions.
