Bug#551845: kaboom: Kaboom prevents login if aborted because there already is a kde4-config

2009-10-21 Thread M G Berberich
Package: kaboom
Version: 1.1.2
Severity: normal

If there is already a kde-config (.kde4 existing) that has not been
generated by kaboom, kaboom starts (as it does not find
.local/kaboom). If the user then cancels kaboom, because he is happy
with his KDE4-config, the login is aborted to. The only way to be able
to log into KDE4 again is to do a “mkdir .local/kaboom”.

> cat .kaboom.log
 Kaboom Settings Dump
kdehome - "/home/berberic/.kde" - exists?: YES
kde4home - "/home/berberic/.kde4" - exists?: YES
kde3backup - "/home/berberic/kde3-backup" - exists?: YES
kaboom stamp - "/home/berberic/.local/kaboom" - exists?: YES
kaboom log - "/home/berberic/.kaboom.log"

If kaboom is aborted there should be a warning-requester and then the
user should be logged in.

Closing because WORKSFORME. Use sudo anyway. And bug reports are not for user
support. We have debian-...@lists.debian.org mailing list for that purpose.

This is actually the expected behavior, as .kde4 isn't used anymore.
Kaboom does move files from .kde4 to .kde, were the configs are expected to
be.

Moreover, if you are happy with your current setup, kaboom allows you to
migrate the data keeping you previous configuration.

Some KDE libs still use .kde4 instead of .kde?

2009-10-21 Thread Brendon Higgins
Hi,

While trying to track down a completely separate problem/bug I ran this
command:
strace konqueror 2>&1 |grep "open"|sort|uniq|less
and discovered these interesting lines:
...
open("/home/brendon/.icons/crystalwhite/cursors/left_ptr", O_RDONLY) = -1
ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open("/home/brendon/.icons/crystalwhite/index.theme", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT
(No such file or directory)
open("/home/brendon/.kde4/share/config/kdeglobals", O_RDONLY) = 8
open("/home/brendon/.kde4/share/config/kdeglobals", O_RDONLY) = 9
open("/home/brendon/.kde/share/apps/khtml/khtml_browser.rc", O_RDONLY) = 12
open("/home/brendon/.kde/share/apps/khtml/kpartplugins/akregator_konqfeedicon.rc",

O_RDONLY) = 12
...

Why is it opening files in .kde4 *and* .kde? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was
under the impression that the .kde4 to .kde transition had already taken place
(c.f. kaboom). It seems, perhaps, the KDE globals library is still using
configuration in the .kde4 folder. This doesn't sound right to me.

I tried to search this mailing list, though it's hard to find relevant results
when the search algorithm ignores your pleas to *really include* the dot in
".kde". I'm wondering if I should file a bug, or if this behaviour is somehow
expected (perhaps due to some configuration option I'm unaware of)?

Not subscribed, please CC. :-)

Peace,
Brendon

I may surely be missing something, but afaik, it should not be looking
in.kde4.

I just did a grep in the pkg-kde team's svn trunk, and found [0].

The only line I find suspicious is:

lisan...@luna:~/damian/debian/pkg-kde/svn/trunk$ grep -irn "\.kde4" *
...
cdbs/variables.mk:10:-DKDE_DEFAULT_HOME=.kde4 \
...

Of course, that may be outdated or unused. But I'll leave that to people who
really knows about it :)

Regards, Lisandro.
