My guess is that each one is installed by a plugin for the respective format,
i.e. Krita does not support this MIME Type without the plugin.

The problem is that most of them are missing the
NoDisplay=true
entry (the one for png does, at least in SVN trunk)

Bug#463230: ships too many .desktop files, mimetype mess

2008-01-30 Thread Erich Schubert
Package: krita
Version: 1:1.9.96.0~svn763013-1
Severity: normal

Krita shows up in the Gnome menu multiple times, because it ships with multiple
.desktop files:
/usr/share/applications/kde4/krita.desktop
/usr/share/applications/kde4/krita_tiff.desktop
/usr/share/applications/kde4/krita_bmp.desktop
/usr/share/applications/kde4/krita_openexr.desktop
/usr/share/applications/kde4/krita_jpeg.desktop
/usr/share/applications/kde4/krita_ora.desktop
/usr/share/applications/kde4/krita_pdf.desktop
/usr/share/applications/kde4/krita_png.desktop

These should be merged into one .desktop file.
Actually these files are pretty inconsistent, and I guess some of them are
stale old copies?
krita.desktop should include a MimeType line, listing all supported mime types.

Hi,

That makes sense. They still should be unified then. E.g.

krita.desktop:
GenericName=Painting and Image Editing

krita_jpeg.desktop:
GenericName=Application for Drawing and Handling of Images

krita_png.desktop:
GenericName=Painting and Image Editing Application

It's not as if krita does something different to PNG that it does to
JPEG images.

this bug has cause packagesearch to be removed from testing, due to a

Is anyone working on a fix?

I would hate to see packagesearch not making it into lenny due to this

Bug#463305: kde4: Core Apps Crash Rendering Package Unusable

2008-01-30 Thread David Baron
Package: kde4
Version: 1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Starting kde4, either from its /etc/init.d/kdm or from a failsafe session
running /usr/bin/startkde brings up a blue background then a series of
crashes:
kcminit (from kdm)
krunner (so no desktop)
plasma (so no panels)
kget (maybe because no panels)
knotify (repeatedly--I subsequently moved this out of the way)

Get the old kmail, functions OK.
Get a sporadically visible kmix icon, will tooltip the volume sometimes.

Can do nothing else but but end the session, either by exiting the console
in the failsafe session of killing kdm.

Note: With the supplied kdmrc path, a very ugly error message appears when
starting or stopping kdm:
Old kde does not end with /share/config, this can wreck havoc.
Replacing the path with one including this text eliminates the message.
Havoc was not caused.

I have tried reading and understanding this patch - and I don't get at all why
it works.

Unless this hunk does it all the magic by it self, I kind of having a hard
time figuring out why this works.

if (p.exists() && p.open(IO_ReadOnly)) {
+   QTextStream stream(&p);
QString l;
-   p.readLine(l,500);
+   l = stream.readLine();
QStringList ll = QStringList::split(' ',l,false);
for (QValueListIterator i = ll.begin();
i!=ll.end(); i++) {

Someone, please enlighten me ;)

You can never unlink a pointer of the cable but then from Internet Explorer
9000 you need to send the parallel SCSI front-end to the 3-inch terminale of
a secret password.

My guess is also that it is how krita figures out what plugins it has
available. I think okular does the same thing with its backends.

I can't reproduce. Please be more specific with the steps you did.

My steps:
create new kword document, write some text, select it, crtl+backspace.

Observed behaviour: text got deleted. no crash

But are completely useless. please make sure you have kdelibs-dbg and
koffice-dbg installed to prodruce useful backtraces.
