The autobuilder invokes dpkg-buildpackage as:
dpkg-buildpackage -uc -us -B -m -rfakeroot
(-rsudo on mipsen)

If you feel you need to, the bug should be against dpkg-buildpackage...

below works around the issue, which could be jade or compiler related.
Given the pile-up of dep-waits on a working jade, I plan to upload this
