Bug#717438: pdnsd RUINED

2013-07-20 Thread jidanni
Package: pdnsd
Severity: grave
X-Debbugs-Cc: resolvc...@packages.debian.org
Version: 1.2.9a-par-1

Pdnsd is now ignored by anything on the system trying to get an IP address.

downgrading pdnsd from 1.2.9a-par-1 to 1.2.8-par-3 fixes it.

(What supported package should one now instead consider migrating to?)

Versions of packages pdnsd depends on:
ii adduser3.113+nmu3
ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.50
ii libc6 2.17-90

Versions of packages pdnsd recommends:
ii resolvconf 1.73
-- debconf information:
* pdnsd/conf: Use resolvconf

Bug#717438: Recall latest pdnsd version

2013-07-20 Thread jidanni
Thanks Thomas for confirming it.
Perhaps we can have that broken version removed from Debian,
pending a new maintainer coming along.
Also tell me if there are any hot alternatives to pdnsd,
other than just not using caching at all.

Bug#716761: Please clarify the wording

2013-07-12 Thread jidanni
Package: pdnsd
Version: 1.2.9a-par-1

# dpkg-reconfigure pdnsd
says
Please select the pdnsd configuration method that best meets your needs.
 │
│ - Use resolvconf : use informations provided by resolvconf.
│ - Use root servers: make pdnsd behave like a caching, recursive DNS
 │ server.
│ - Manual : completely manual configuration. The pdnsd daemon
│ will not start until you edit /etc/pdnsd.conf and
 │ /etc/default/pdnsd.

Does that mean if one picks resolvconf,
then pdnsd will not make pdnsd behave like a caching, recursive DNS
server?

Please clarify the wording.

Well, maybe it is. I'm not sure. However the man page would be clearer
if it just listed exactly which bytes it filters right there at the top

Bug#474934: Modification time: say UTC, or better yet say nothing

2008-04-07 Thread jidanni
Package: xli
Version: 1.17.0+20061110-2

Apparently, these days, and oddly maybe only for PNG, a "Modification
time" is output:

Hogwash, I just created it, as you can see by my prompt.

So unless you add "UTC", or use the current timezone, your date is invalid.

And perhaps don't mention the modification time, as that is what ls(1)
is for.

Bug#490602: -forall for all options

Man page says:
   -forall
Apply -fillscreen and -fullscreen options to all images and not
  just the first.

And the -rotate option, etc., how to make it apply to all images and not
just the first?

Isn't just the first a special case, not all the rest?

Therefore all options should apply to all images and there should be
no -forall.

BRL> xli test.png -rotate 90 test.png -rotate 180 test.png

P.S., unless the image is a perfect square, the -rotate 90 here will put
the image partially below the screen.

OK, I see now on the man page
LOCAL IMAGE OPTIONS
PERSISTENT IMAGE OPTIONS

There should still be a --local and a --persistent, to turn the next
option into the other form, as there seems to be at least several
local options one might occasionally want to be persistent, etc. e.g.,
I must view 100 vertical JPEGs so I need a simple way to rotate each
90 degrees without using another program or making a whopper command
line or xargs etc.

Or the man page should mention how to view 100 rotated images as an example.
