Bug#199359: timidity-patches: The sound quality seems to be REMARKABLY reduced

2003-06-30 Thread Dmitry Rutsky
Package: timidity-patches
Version: 0.2-1.2
Severity: important

Compare for yourself. Here is http://school.ioffe.ru/~rutsky/eee/a.mid
(49038 bytes)*, and here
http://school.ioffe.ru/~rutsky/eee/serious_lion.mp3
(4974132 bytes, I think something about
800K will be enough for comparison if you do not want to downlad the entire
file) is exactly (neglecting the MP3 compression losses) what I got from
timidity with this midi file (I had only lowered it by half tone because
it is arrangement for my song which was intended to be in D major), with
defaultplayback settings (except for the pitch shift) compressed by LAME. I had
been using timidity from Debian 2.2 stable release at the time,
and it sounded perfectly. Damn, it was the BEST performance of what I got with
any software MIDI players I've tried (standard media player that comes with
Microsoft Windows [tm] Millenium Edition gave just a funny noise, and
Yamaha OPL3 FM synthesizer built in my soundcard definitely sucks).

Now I'm strongly disappointed with the latest changes...

Bug#226895: dict-freedict-eng-rus: unreadable

2004-01-09 Thread Dmitry Rutsky
Package: dict-freedict-eng-rus
Version: 1.1-4
Severity: normal

The dictionary entries appear unreadable for me. I cannot detect what
codepage they're encoded, and nothing in the documentation can shed some
light on this issue.

Bug#226904: dict-freedict-eng-rus: copyright file is misformatted

2004-01-09 Thread Dmitry Rutsky
Package: dict-freedict-eng-rus
Version: 1.1-4
Severity: minor

The text after "Copyright (C) 1999 Horst" in the package's copyright file
is misformatted. Apparently line endings were not converted to spacebars
in some conversion.

This works, thank you. Maybe it's worth to put a note in README.Debian or
something that unlike mueller7, which works fine with dict client in usual
ru_RU.KOI8-R environment (i.e. appears readable), freedict-eng-rus uses
Unicode and users with unreadable output from dict should try using `dictl'
wrapper instead and consult general dictd documentation, to avoid confusion
caused by lack of information in this dictionary documentation?
