Dear Maintainer,

The installation could only be done after I manually removed Exim. I
also removed Apache, which might not have been necessary.

The Citadel server hangs directly after it is started, so that Webcit
and the comman-line client cannot connect:

So the server is lying as it reports success without actually working.

The files /var/lib/citadel/data/cdb* are owned by root:root. If I remove
them, they are recreated in the same way with the same error. The
situation is the same if I manually set their ownership to
citadel:citadel.

The files can be verified:

if you press ‘Help’, all you get is a referral to the Arista homepage, which in 
turn only
says “The easiest way to convert your media.”

Whatever source, destination or ‘device’ preset (should that read ‘output file 
format’
preset?) I choose, all the program ever does is open a window and say “Cannot 
add
conversion to queue because of missing elements!”. If started in a
terminal, it also reports:

arista.presets [435]: INFO Attempting to install elements: faac, ffdeinterlace
arista.presets [451]: ERROR Installing elements not supported!

No explanation is offered as to what an ‘element’ might be or why it needs to be
installed. All the help menu item does is refer to the program's website, which 
does not
contain the slightest hint towards documentation, instead offering the 
statement mentioned
above, which obviously eliminates the need for any kind of documentation.

An easy way to a dead end, I should say.

Please add all required dependencies. Trying to install ‘gnome-codec-install’ 
only results

Please also consider answering the questions reportbug asks you:

   * What led up to the situation?

   * What was the outcome of this action?
   * What outcome did you expect instead?

Downgrading the severity until it's clear if the issue is really of RC
severity.

thanks for providing details about this bug(s) as the initial report
was quite unclear about what's really the issue..

But in the future, please don't write to just -submitter@ as such
mails are not sent to the maintainer of the package (just archived in
the web) and hence may get lost if you are not the (only) maintainer
i.e. know about that mail being sent. This especially counts if the
maintainer address is set to a mailing list.

xmp seems to have been split up. The xmp frontend now requires the
libxmp library which needs to be packaged seperately first. Hence
cloning this bug-report into an RFP.

The Debian QA team likely won't package new software just to continue
packaging an orphaned package.

But since someone intents to adopt xmp, I suspect libxmp will find
someone to package it, too. See http://bugs.debian.org/691840 for the
xmp adoption intention.

Ask Daniel Baumann. Its his domain. (And he seems to be the previous
maintainer.)

But from my experience I'd say he has a bad habit of removing VCS repos of
orphaned packages quite quickly. So this is no real surprise for me...
I though would ask him anyway -- and if it only is to show him that
removing code from the net is a real bad habit.

If he really has deleted the repos, you can do still do a
"git-import-dscs --debsnap $package" to get a git repo with as much
history as possible for the package (uses http://snapshot.debian.org/
as data base).

The only hard reverse dependency I found in Sid seems tgif with a
popcon of around 700.

But inkscape (popcon > 6) suggests python-uniconvertor so maybe
that's the reason for its popcon value of around 1500.

I never checked before, but it's not only a library but also contains
a commandline tool. So it's probably quite useful standalone, too.

Yes and no. You can connect to hosts with SSHd listening on a
different host by adding the according entry to your ~/.ssh/config.
But this is rather a workaround than a fix.

version 1.2.1. Do you intend to continue development of mssh in
general?

As you may know, Bradley maintained mssh upstream as well as in Debian
and hence maintaining the Debian package would have meant maintaining
the upstream which code -- which I don't feel capable of. But if mssh
has a proper upstream maintainer again, I'd also maintain or
co-maintain its Debian package. (Cc'ing the "O: mssh" bug report for
adding this information.)

P.S.: I also have a copy of Brad's old Git repository, so if you want
to import it to have the whole history, I can help. (Just have to
check where my local copy is as git.debian.org/anonscm.debian.org is
currently down due to hard disk issues.

That's the point: It's _not_ really maintained. I can and will only
maintain it in Debian properly _if_ someone else is willing to
maintain it upstream as I can't do that.

I currently just try to fix the worst issues under the hat of the
Debian QA Group.

Despite there is no new upstream release yet (upstream website says
0.6 is 93% finished), the git repository at
https://gitorious.org/ditz/mainline seems to work with at least 1.9.x
if not even with 2.0 since a branch called ruby2 has been merged 5

Bug#749334: nvi: Homepage header out of date

Hi Henrique or who else is interested in adopting nvi,

the Homepage header of nvi currently points to a no more exiting web
page (http://www.kotnet.org/~skimo/nvi/).

The "older" homepage of nvi is http://www.bostic.com/vi/ and nowadays
redirects to https://sites.google.com/a/bostic.com/keithbostic/vi/, but
is horribly out of date (offers version 1.79 for download).

But it seems as if there's a at least some development (or maintenance)
going on at http://repo.or.cz/w/nvi.git so I recommend to use that as
upstream homepage for now.

I also suspect it may improve the package if a current snapshot of that
git repo would be used as base for the nvi package.

One obvious disadvantage of that snapshot is that it contains more
embedded code copies than before, see e.g. this commit:

But since the .orig.tar.gz needs to be build from a git snapshot anyway,
repackaging it to exclude embedded code copies shouldn't be an issue.

As far as I know, ConsoleKit is deprecated in favor of systemd-logind
and will go away. And we got wdm working with logind in 1.28-15.

So I'm a little bit confused about this bug report. Cc'ing Michael
Stapelberg who was so kind to fix wdm for use with logind. I don't
know too much about how logind is supposted to replace ConsoleKit.

I don't use GNOME's NetworkManager but WICD. ConsoleKit is not
installed.

But xfce-power-manager was IIRC able to do suspend to RAM. Now I do
Suspend-to-RAM with with systemd upon lid-close and that works fine in
most situations, too.

Then again I don't use any of the common desktop environments but only
explicitly chosen parts of them in a carefully fine-tuned .Xsession
file.

That's IMHO way too harsh given that the package is uptodate with the
current upstream release despite being orphaned and the issue is
easily fixable.

Ack, https://github.com/telmich/cdist redirects to
https://github.com/ungleich/cdist, but last commit there is from
November 2021 and there's no note that it's no more updated.

Funnily https://code.ungleich.ch/ungleich-public/cdist/#contributing
refers to https://github.com/ungleich/cdist/pulls

I'll take upstream into Cc so they're aware of these upstream
infrastructure issues misleading users into thinking that upstream's
development has stalled.

I might also do a QA upload fixing these issues. No promises though,
as I'm a bit out of time these days.

It has only stopped for non-UTF-8 locales. Using UTF-8 locales, it

You also reported the bug to be found with 4.3.9-1 (which was the
current version in Sid at that time), just to close it a few minutes
later. Without that "found 346119 4.3.9-1" I'd expected the bug to be
fixed in 4.3.9-1 and "3.4.6-7" being some weird typo. Or did this just
go to the wrong bug report?

I remember having seen this then and when after I ^Zetted man. But I
can't reproduce neither the behaviour I remembered (without the bg)
nor the one you described (with bg) on Debian Lenny with either cat or
man. Can't reproduce it on Sid either.

Can you tell us, with which program you can reproduce this? And maybe
your .zshrc if you have one?

In my case pressing just enter already sufficed to get rid of the
issue, so it was never annoying enough that even thought about a bug
report. :-)

on a Thinkpad myself.

As thinkfinger has been replaced by libfprint, do you still have such
issues with wdm and the fingerprint reader?

What kind of Thinkpad do you have? Mine (T61) seems to have a different
fingerprint reader (lsusb reports "SGS Thomson Microelectronics
Fingerprint Reader").

I'm sorry, I can't reproduce that. Shift-Insert works for me on
Squeeze in all these cases as expected:

1) Pressing Shift-Insert in the input field at the top (paste goes to
   all subwindows)
2) Clicking in the first window and then pressing Shift-Insert (paste goes to
   the first subwindow)
3) Clicking in the second window and then pressing Shift-Insert (paste goes to
   the second subwindow)

Did you try to press Shift-Insert with focus on the inputfield at the
top or into single subwindows when you experienced that issue? (Maybe
we can track down and reproduce it that way.)

Yep. Works for me in all three cases, too.

Bug#700896: cinnamon doesn't show up in wdm's window/session manager list

Dear Cinnamon Maintainers, dear QA Team,

I'm using wdm as display manager. While XFCE, LXDE and GNOME show up
in wdm's list of available window and session managers, Cinnamon
doesn't.

This means that I cannot choose to run Cinnamon when using wdm as
display manager. I'd have expected that Cinnamon shows up in wdm's
list as all other installed window and session managers seem to do.

It doesn't make a difference if I use wdm from Wheezy/Sid (1.28-13) or
from Experimental (1.28-14~exp1).

I'm reporting this issue against cinnamon and wdm since I don't know
which of these packages are the source for this issue. And because
fixing this issue in one of the two packages should already suffice.

does _not_ fix #700896, at least not if Agustin's description is
correct (and I don't expect wdm to look up dpkg's or apt's package
database):

You just added a "Provides" package header, but you need to use
update-alternatives in your maintainer scripts to fix the issue, too.

This can be easily done by using "dh_installwm" in your debian/rules.

Unfortunately I can't reproduce this issue, neither with the version
you reported it against (0.94.14rc20-1.2) nor with the current version
(0.94.14rc21-4).

In case you still use boa and still have this issue, please provide
more infomation, i.e. error messages you got during upgrade, etc.

Otherwise, I'll likely close this bug report soon as it is not
reproducible for me and quite old, too.

I though can't reproduce this issue (false positive when running boa
as root) on a system with a current kernel (3.10 rc5 :-) and will

The code which causes the FTBFS is part of
/usr/include/pango-1.0/pango/pango-font.h and I'd suspect that this is
not an mssh-specific issue. (Then OTOH this should have caused quite
many FTBTS and I've found no according bug report against the pango1.0
source package. Maybe not much programs use -Wpedantic?)

Also grepping through the mssh source package code for
PANGO_GLYPH_INVALID_INPUT or PangoGlyph did not yield any result.

At least the -Wpedantic comes from mssh:

src/Makefile.am:AM_CFLAGS = -pedantic-errors -Werror -Wall -Wfatal-errors 
-Wwrite-strings

Nevertheless I think that a library should not cause a FTBFS due to
this compiler flag.

In case you think, this is still an mssh fault, please explain and
help me to understand why.

Ok, fixing that indeed sounds less bumpy. Hence cloning this bug into
a (less severe) bug against mssh.

The line "pre-up /usr/sbin/ifconfig eth0 up" in /etc/network/interfaces
is not inserted by pppoeconf. Therefore, the network will be down at boot.
In my second system (Sarge) pppoeconf make that properly.

Furthermore, if pppoeconf will be used a second time, a redundant "auto eth0" 
part
will be inserted in /etc/network/interfaces - rendering the file unusable for
the startscripts. Similar to the first problem, this occures only in sid and
not in sarge.

Hmmm, I remember doing the patch during Zurich BSP, but if that hasn't
been uploaded yet, I would have to patch it again, since the boxes we
had there were reinstalled after the BSP. Maybe madduck still has the
patch as he was the one who should IIRC sponsor it.

Well, it just was a new description and would enhance the package. It
was one of these easy-to-do NMUs on packages I never used at the top
of the oldest bugs list. :)

Hi,

I'm reassigning this bug to libxml2 since the error seems to happen
during the XML syntax verification which is not done by rdfwml but by
libxml2.

You can reproduce the same error with the tool xmllint from the
package libxml2-utils (source package libxml2) by calling it like this
on the file attached to the bug-report:

$ xmllint broken2.rdf

P.S.: This problem seems also to happen with libxml1 since

$ xml2 < broken2.rdf

from the libxml1 dependent package xml2 (sic!) also reports this
error.

Is the RDF file valid XML or is it a bug in libxml? I can't tell.

Thanks for the heads up. I seem to have missed that bug report
initially.

I noticed that interruption, too, at least once. But IIRC in my case,
network came back with the same IP IIRC since the IP was assigned
staticallt by the DHCP server. I'll forward it to upstream for now.

So why are you using wicd at all? I don't see why you need wicd in

I agree here mostly. It's though only a real issue if the interface
doesn't come up again with the same IP afterwards.

I disagree here. In Debian, it's common that NetworkManager and
similar tools manage those interfaces from /etc/network/interfaces
which are not listed (or maybe also those which are on "auto").

The issue here seems that wicd seems to no more blacklists them. Will
have to check.

Indeed. That's why I'm using wicd, too. It was though worse with
NetworkManager back then since usually, the network interface stayed
down afterwards. That got fixed in the meanwhile, though, IIRC.

Are you sure about that version number? Testing/Unstable currently has
1.7.4+tb2-1. 1.7.2.4-4.1 is the version in Jessie.

At least in my case, I usually run wicd-curses only if I need it and

This is contra-productive. :-(

https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/fte now claims that there is a new
upstream release while there isn't.

fte upstream has the annoying behaviour to _not_ put the version
number but the release date into the tar ball file names which is why
there never has been a watch file in the past. See
/usr/share/doc/fte/changelog.gz:

  0.50.2b6 --  2011
  […]
  0.50.2b5 -- March 2010

Hence we _cannot_ check for new versions with watch files unless we
change the version number of the package. I recommend to _not_ change
the version number to only use the date based numbers. A proper
upstream version number which would work with an according watch file
would be e.g.

  0.50.2b6-20110708

I'm tempted to do another QA upload to fix this false positive. The
other option would be to either remove the watch file or the comment
out its content.

There was nothing to "correct". It was working before since /cgit/ and
/git/ are equivalent and AFAIK none of them is preferred yet. So I
think it is rather bold to claim that URL has been "corrected".

Historically seen /cgit/ was working before /git/ was working. So many
packages use /cgit/ instead of /git/.

I went through all the more or less recent upstream commits and I'm
rather sure that the commit at
https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~wicd-devel/wicd/experimental/revision/851
is the cause for the issue.

So it's a different issue than #557156.

That should help, yes. But reading the commit message of the above
mentioned commit, there's another "fix":

  Change default behaviour: now wicd kills connections when is
  shutdown. This behaviour can be overriden with -c/--keep-connection
  (to the daemon).

So the best way to fix this issue probably would be to set this option
by default in /etc/default/wicd and use that variable in
/etc/init.d/wicd. But currently there is no variable for that in
either file, so such a variable (e.g. named "DAEMON_OPTIONS") needs to
be introduced.

Well, I'd call it debatable. I also see reasons for this behaviour.

Ah, ok. I thought you were arguing that they shouldn't need to be run
if the cable has been pulled out without choosing "disconnect" in
WICD and that the "predisconnect" is then still run despite it was
after unplugging the cable.

Uploaded last night. The build failed on a bunch of architectures
(arm64, armel, armhf, pppc64el, powerpc, s390x)) due to failing tests.
It was always the test fieldtheory which hang on these architectures
and was killed after reaching an timeout.

My current suspicion is that lie doesn't behave as expected on these
architectures. Haven't checked it explicitly, though.

So for now, I'll again disable that test to hopefully get it passing
the test suite on all architectures.

That's what I have done and what already helped: All architectures
which failed with that test have now passed the test suite and built
fine. Additionally all release (i.e. relevant) architectures already

Thanks for forwarding it. Such issues are not detected by just having
the package installed and using it occasionally. But triggering a
reinstallation showed it here, too.

Yes, I understand. Point is that when I did the first QA upload there
were (seemingly dead) ITA-traces in the Git master brnach and I didn't
want to throw them away, so for the last RC-fix (back then for
Jessie), I branched off a branch named "jessie" based on the lasted
upload to Unstable. I now did the same for Stretch: Created a branch
"stretch" based on the branch "jessie". As soon as I've uploaded
apt-build, I'll merge back my changes into the "master" branch.

Yes, but the patch found in that bug report
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/wicd/+bug/897399/+attachment/3414734/+files/wicd-897399)
doesn't fit what I would expect as patch for this issue.

No. gksu is the right tool for the majority of users, so it should be
installed with default settings. But since it's only a Recommends, you
are free to uninstall (or choose to not install) it at any time.

Dropping it to Suggest would mean the admin would have to select it
explicitly to get it installed. That's not what we want.

I'm though open to any alternative recommendation in addition to gksu.
I'm just not aware of any package suitable as alternative to gksu.

I disagree here. Wicd has a list of supported DHCP clients and handles
each one differently depending on its features. AFAIK wicd is not
capable of talking to arbitrary DHCP clients. Hence the way #680976
has been fixed was correct.

Indeed, wicd theoretically could be used to handle wired
configurations only. I'm though not sure if wicd works properly
without iwconfig, iwlist and friends installed, so I'm reluctant here.
Additionally, I consider such cases being very rare.

Less rare, but a similar case is the question if wpa-supplicant needs
to be a hard dependency. E.g. there might be users just connecting to
open or WEP-"secured" wifi networks. (But at least the latter case
should be very rare nowadays, too.)

I'd avoid these kind of changes before the Stretch release as they
need quite some testing. But I might reconsider them after the Stretch
release.

I don't see why this would be relevant here. The sole reason for
downgrading these dependencies is because there might be use cases
where wireless at all is not needed. (AFAIK wicd can't yet use "iw"
instead of iwconfig and friends.)

I've just uploaded an updated wicd package to Debian Unstable which
fixes many outstanding issues in Debian and Ubuntu.

Unfortunately I haven't yet found a bug fix for this issue.

I though could at least trace it down so far that I can reliably
reproduce it and know what circumstance need to be present:

Requirements:

* The wired interface needs to be shown, i.e. either "Always show
  wired interface" is on or the wired interface has link.

How to reproduce reliably:

* Start wicd-curses and don't press any keys.
* Wait until "wired-default" is no more highlighted, i.e. no more
  displayed inverted.
* Press more or less any key. ("H" for help does not immediately
  crash, but first shows the help and crashes when you quit the help
  dialog.)

Probably the right way to tackle this is to find out what unhighlights
and hence unselects the wired-default connection (and instead selects
something which can't receive keypresses) and then make it stop doing
that.

But I've so far not yet found what unselects the wired connection in
the TUI. Any help (further debugging, patches, suggestions) is
appreciated here.

I can reproduce this on Sid/Stretch, but not on Jessie, so this is a
regression from Jessie to Stretch.

The same happens if you don't specify the file format (as HDF5 seems
to be the default file format).

Bug#861999: fwsnort: Doesn't remove firewall rules on package purge

Hi,

while working on the recent RC bug in fwsnort (#860164) I noticed that
all the firewall rules created by fwsnort are not removed upon purging
the package.

But since the package does not create them automatically and they're
only created if the program is actually used as intented, I think it's
less severe than e.g. piuparts reporting leftover files after purge.

On a first glance, simply calling "fwsnort --ipt-revert" in prerm
suffices, but then again, /usr/sbin/fwsnort might be no more there, if
the package was already removed, but not purged. Luckily, when looking
what this option actually does, I noticed that it boils down to the very
simple oneliner:

  grep -v FWSNORT /var/lib/fwsnort/fwsnort.save | iptables-restore

So I'll add this to the postrm script before deleting the fwsnort.save
file, calling it only if that file exists.

I disagree. I expect a package to clean up its changes on purge which
result on common usage. To be more specifically, seeing 11'000
iptables rules left on my system after pruging fwsnort with no chance
to remove them without reinstalling the package or removing 11'000
rules by hand. Not cleaning up these rules is a bug. And cleaning up
is a task for "purge", not for "remove".

But since I saw no new commits since the release of Git 2.13.1 (or
2.13) and the last test-suite related fix was in February 2016, I
assume that non of the commits since 0.36 already fix this.

Seems as if you need at least to update your test suite to work with
the latest git releases, but maybe more

Since upstream has a release candidate of a future release available,
I imported that one into the packaging and pushed the according
package changes to a git branch named "experimental", see
https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/collab-maint/xfrisk.git/log/?h=experimental

Unfortunately that release candidate didn't fix this issue, so we very
likely need to find the cause for this crash and make up a patch to
fix it.

Hrm, The crashes are less verbose with "export
DEB_BUILD_MAINT_OPTIONS=hardening=-all", "export
DEB_BUILD_MAINT_OPTIONS=hardening=-stackprotectorstrong" or "export
DEB_BUILD_MAINT_OPTIONS=hardening=-stackprotector,-relro,-pie", but
still there:

CFLAGS = -Wall -g
ifneq (,$(findstring noopt,$(DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS)))
CFLAGS += -O0

CFLAGS += -O2
endif
export CFLAGS

… so I thought that optimization shouldn't make a difference.

But since the old package didn't pass through CFLAGS properly anyway
(had to fix that in 1.2-4), that's indeed a good point. Will check,

Nope, the rebuilt against libc6 2.25 went wrong and was still against
version 2.24, at least on amd64:
https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=libnih&arch=amd64&ver=1.0.3-8%2Bb1&stamp=155842&raw=0

And a local rebuilt in pbuilder (as of Git HEAD in the packaging repo)
worked fine and shows the proper dependencies.

So for now, it just seems necessary to fix the binary rebuild
(BinNMU).

And since the release team is tracking this at
https://release.debian.org/transitions/html/glibc-2.25.html anyway, I
expect them to notice that, too, very soon, or already have.
Nevertheless, Cc'ing them to make sure they're aware of this bug
report. As far as I can see, this bug can be closed when the fixed
rebuild on amd64 hits unstable.

It doesn't seem to be caused glibc 2.26, because if I try to compile
libnih on Sid without having glibc updated from 2.25 to 2.26 yet (due
to libnih), it still FTBFS in the same way:

Looking at libnih's build dependencies, the expat upstream version
bump on 2017-12-16 in Sid and on 2017-12-25 in buster fits quite well.

Another hint towards expat is the fact that the failing test involves

or if the test suite just needs to be adapted to the new expat
version.

So far no issues and nih-dbus-tool still generates a lot of C code.

The patch fixes the FTBFS with both, glibc 2.25 as well as glibc 2.26.

I've now pushed the above patch with some proper metadata to the newly
created git branch "adapt-testsuite-to-expat-2.2.5":

In /usr/sbin/update-rc.d:139 ff. $SYSTEMCTL_SKIP_SYSV is only used if
/bin/systemctl exists. /bin/systemctl shouldn't exist on that system,
but to my surprise, it does and it's rather old:

from systemd to sysvinit or the initial Raspberry Pi SD card image
used for that installation was already unclear with regards to that
program.

Will try to figure that out. I very likely still have that image.
Until it's clear if that's a local issue or a bug in some package,
please ignore that package. Will either reassign or close the bug
appropriately later.

Hi Marc,

I'm not the maintainer of the root-tail Debian package (it currently
has no maintainer, see https://bugs.debian.org/838406), but I'm
preparing a QA upload of the package to get 1.3 into Debian and the
package back to the current state of the art with regards to
packaging. Did that already once in the past.

I must admit, I have no idea what could be right or wrong from a
theoretical side...

... but since that patch fixed a crash (see
https://bugs.debian.org/298708), I'd be rather cautions with removing
it.

Will at least check if I can still reproduce the crash reported in
#298708 without that patch.

P.S.: root-tail fails to compile with GCC 9 due to --as-needed being
passed to the linker by default with GCC 9. Solved that in Debian by
patching the Makefile:

The 1.3 (and 1.2) man page states:

   --font | -fn FONTSPEC
  Use font FONTSPEC. This can be either a fixed
  width font like -fn fixed or any font  using  -fn
  '-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*' with the appropriate
  fields filled out (see xfontsel). Specifying a different
  FONTSPEC before each filename will cause each file to be
  displayed in a different font.

So according to '-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*' is a valid string for
the base font variable, right? And Debian lets this variable default
to "-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*", i.e. exactly the same value. Or do
I oversee something?

Actually I could neither get "-fn" nor "--font" to cause any change in
the displayed screen. I tried X font selectors like
'-misc-fixed-medium-r-*-*-12-*-*-*-*-60-iso10646-1' or
'-misc-fixed-medium-r-*-*-12-*-*-*-*-60-iso8859-1' as well as TrueType
font names like "Terminus", "$Fontname-$Fontsize", "xft:$Fontname" ,
"xft:$Fontname-$Fontsize". And I tried root-tail 1.3 and 1.2.

Not sure what I did wrong.

I accidentially closed this bug with the recent upload despite it
wasn't really fixed.

There were two very similar, but not identical bug reports (#502878
and #640288), one for /var/lib/john/ and one for /var/run/john/. I
just fixed the /var/run/john/ one.

What didn't really help was that the variable RUNDIR contains
/var/lib/john and not /var/run/john (which is stored in $PIDDIR).

Will fix that very soon in git and latest in a few days with the next
upload.

I just noticed you have ITA'ed[0] libdumbnet back in June.

libdumbnet has currently an RC bug[1] which may cause a bunch of
packages, including three packages managed by the Debian Perl Group
(Cc'ed), to be autoremoved, too.

Do you intend to take care of that RC bug, too?

Yeah, team-maintaining would be cool for such a package. I'd join such
a team, but wouldn't maintain that package alone nor as lead.

I've created it with "git-import-dscs --debsnap lynx-cur", so the
whole package history (one commit per upload or upstream release) as
far back as available on snapshots.debian.org is in there now --
including Andreas' uploads to experimental. (Thanks for these,
Andreas! Much appreciated.)

I've also added according Vcs-* headers, did some minor cosmetic
changes and dropped the transitional packages which seem to be
transitional packages since at least Squeeze.

My proposed fix is at

I've though observed two possibly minor issues with it:

* An existing /etc/apt/sources.list.d/apt-build.list is not updated to
  add "[trusted=yes]".

* Upon purge and (re)installation, I had the "deb" line twice in
  /etc/apt/sources.list.d/apt-build.list and it's not clear to me why.

I've not yet done much testing, so any feedback is welcome. I'll
definitely do some more testing before uploading that fix.

That wasn't the issue, but using grep without -F to search for the
whole line -- which now contains brackets and they have special
meanings in grep basic regular expressions. So adding -F to the
according grep call fixes that.

There's at least one fork on Github with commits from only a few

Other promising forks seems to be
https://github.com/AshKyd/Hotot/commits/master (last commit about one
year ago in April 2014, though) and
https://github.com/sudaraka/Hotot/commits/master (last commit in
September 2014).

Especially AshKyd writes in the README of his fork: "Hotot was
previously maintained at @lyricat/Hotot, however that project is no
longer being maintained or accepting pull requests. The intention of
this branch is to cut out some of the more superfluous functionality
such as GTK builds and maintain a more basic Hotot into the future."

Indeed. Only about 1.3% have -docs. (3282 vs 43)

I do have a patch for that (attached), but I actually think that the
upload, going through the NEW queue and annoying users with
transitional packages are not worth the effort.

I've also pushed that patch[1] into a branch called
fte-docs-rename[2]. If anyone thinks, this is really worth the effort,
feel free to merge the patch into the master branch and make a QA
upload.

No. The oldest version of fte-docs known by snapshot.debian.org is
0.49.13-10 which has a changelog entry from February 2000. Until then,
the package never has been mentioned in the changelog, so I assume
that it's in there from the beginning (1996).

What you might have stumbled upon is #798413 (see
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=798413#22) which
caused fte-docs to disappear in the archive for the period between two
uploads (0.50.2b6-6 and 0.50.2b6-7), so that 0.50.2b6-7 had to go
through NEW.

If it would have been a new binary package, I would have agreed. :-)

Hrm, not for me. I use mostly wicd-curses, too, and it works fine for
me.

The question is now: What's the difference? Do you have e.g. multiple
wired connection profiles or such?

I suspect the relevant "workaround" is to switch on "Always show wired
interface". At least I was able to reproduce that crash a few times
(but by far not always) if I turn that option off and there are no
wireless networks available either, i.e. the list of networks to
connect to is rather empty.

Pressing "R" in that situation also raises the chance of getting this error.

Thanks. Will have a look at it. Seems as if I checked changing
properties of wireless networks (which resulted in the patch
https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/collab-maint/wicd.git/tree/debian/patches/35-fix_ValueError_None_is_not_in_list.patch)
but not actually connecting to one as I prefer wired connections at
home for better backup performance. Sorry for missing that.

Actually the bug has been reported 4 times upstream. A few of these
bug reports had patches. Took the one from ArchLinux, where someone
thanked for the patch and confirmed that it's working.

Will upload a new package soon. I though fear there are more such
issues in here... Any help is appreciated.
