Package: directvnc
Version: 0.7.5-4
Severity: normal

When running directvnc it connects to the vncserver, I see the correct
screen. But when moving the mouse the X cursor remains where it is,
instead I move the gpm mouse pointer and the screen is overwritten in
that parts where I move the mouse over. (I hope it is clear what I
mean).
When disabling gpm everything works fine.

Package: src:directfb
Version: 1.7.7-13
Severity: important

User: debian-...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: ftbfs-gcc-14

[This bug is targeted to the upcoming trixie release]

Please keep this issue open in the bug tracker for the package it
was filed for. If a fix in another package is required, please
file a bug for the other package (or clone), and add a block in this
package. Please keep the issue open until the package can be built in
a follow-up test rebuild.

The package fails to build in a test rebuild on at least amd64 with
gcc-14/g++-14, but succeeds to build with gcc-13/g++-13. The
severity of this report will be raised before the trixie release.

The full build log can be found at:
http://qa-logs.debian.net/2024/07/01/directfb_1.7.7-13_unstable_gccexp.log
The last lines of the build log are at the end of this report.

To build with GCC 14, either set CC=gcc-14 CXX=g++-14 explicitly,
or install the gcc, g++, gfortran, ... packages from experimental.

  apt-get -t=experimental install g++

Common build failures are new warnings resulting in build failures with
-Werror turned on, or new/dropped symbols in Debian symbols files.
For other C/C++ related build failures see the porting guide at
http://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-14/porting_to.html

Mouse support was missing for me when I tried the GUI installer (beta 3
netinst CD image). I use a Logitech Wireless (not Bluetooth) USB adapter
(ID 046d:c50c) for both keyboard and mouse. The keyboard did work fine,
but the mouse cursor was sticky. (And by the way: How to get those
expanders to expand with the keyboard?)

The boot did work otherwise, though with 60 Hz on my CRT, which has a
bit of an impact on the readability. I did not try the installation part
yet, as I am still backuping. But I tried to "verify the CD", which
somehow failed "because of wrong MD5 checksums".

Kind regards,
Philipp Kern

-Boot the graphical-installer with

-Let the NEWT frontend appear, switch to VT2 and type

echo 'no-hardware' >>/etc/directfbrc
echo 'screenshot-dir=/' >>/etc/directfbrc
export DEBIAN_FRONTEND=gtk
debian-installer

if everything goes as expected the graphical installer should start
using DFB's unaccelerated video driver and you should be able to use the
"Stamp" key to take screenshots

Package: libdirectfb-1.0-0
Version: 1.0.1-11
Severity: important
File: directfb

DirectFB fails to start on embedded ARM systems based on Atmel AT91SAM9263 with
TFT-LCD controller design.
Tested systems: Atmel AT91SAM9263-EK devkit and Ronetix PM9263 starterkit.
The LCD-TFT module is a HITACHI TX09D70VM1CCA.

On startup DirectFB fail with the message that the pixelformat rgba 5/0, 5/5,
5/10, 0/0 (16bit) is unsupported.
(A BGR555 pixelformat with red and blue swapped compared to normal RGB)
This error makes the directfb package and all programs that depends on directfb
unusable on systems using the BGR555 pixelformat.
This pixelformat is supported in the upstream version of DirectFB.

A patch file to add support for BGR555 to directfb can be found in the upstream
GIT tree:

When I set keyboard to fr-latin9, the shift+key does not work with direcfb.

If I add those two lines in my /etc/console-tools/remap:

s/keycode  42 = CapsShift/keycode  42 = Shift/;
s/keycode  54 = CapsShift/keycode  54 = Shift/;

I can use again the shift+key.

Note that this has similarities with #339352.

Boot method: CD
Image version:
http:http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/etch_di_rc2/amd64/iso-cd/debian-testing-amd64-netinst.iso
Date: 21 march 2007
Machine: Intel Dual core due CPU, Intel MB

I decided to give a try to the new gui installer; boot went OK and I
was confronted with the language choice; but I could not operate the
mouse properly.

The mouse (& keyboard) is a wireless USB Logitech, named "deluxe 650".

Moving the mouse up and down would move the pointer up and down on
screen, but moving it left and right did not move it left and right
but rather scrolled the list of languages as crazy (it was as if
"left" and "right" was remapped to the scrolling wheel!!)

So I had to abort installation. :-(

My suggestion: the GUI installer, as a first step, needs to
check if the mouse is working OK. Here is a proposal:
a small window is presented saying

<>

At the same time a wonderful autodetect gizmo analyzes the USB and PS2
traffic and tries to detect and load the appropriate driver; and
if it cannot, when the user hits "space", a list of drivers is presented;
(or otherwise, it is suggested that the user would use the no-GUI install).

a.

On my laptop the graphical installer freezes the machine, probably
during initialization of directfb. When it freezes, it shows a
completely grey screen with only a mouse cursor. This only happens since
the switch to 2.6.18 kernels.

I've finally been able to trace the problem to a config change in the
kernel:
-CONFIG_INPUT_MOUSEDEV=m
+CONFIG_INPUT_MOUSEDEV=y

A 2.6.18 kernel compiled without that option works fine.

I would guess the bug is in directfb as I'd say that having MOUSEDEV
compiled in is completely valid. However, it is strange that the same
issue has not yet been reported for other systems. I guess it could also
be a bug in some hardware specific code for my hardware.

Some help from directfb developers how to further trace this issue would
be very welcome.

Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag
database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug.
The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite
references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references
it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the
master archive and will not propagate to any mirrors until the next
dinstall run at the earliest.

Packages are usually not removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks
unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed
from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency
problems. The release team can force a removal from testing if it is
really needed, please contact them if this should be the case.

We try to close bugs which have been reported against this package
automatically. But please check all old bugs, if they were closed
correctly or should have been re-assigned to another package.

Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you
