The package description says: mercurial-buildpackage: Build a Debian package from the Mercurial repository, either in-place or using pbuilder. which suggests that mercurial-buildpackage is perfectly useful without pbuilder (and that this is not an unusual case like using an X app without a local X installation). Do I understand correctly? I would suggest changing the Recommends to Suggests or changing the package description to explain it. Bug#688281: marked as done (mercurial-buildpackage: mercurial-importorig leaves files that have been removed in new upstream version)

These extra files now represent extra changes to the new upstream package that are not accounted for by quilt patches (for packages that uses the quilt 3.0 format). The bug is due to how mercurial-importorig uses merge to combine default branch and the (updated) upstream branch. While the merge would properly update all files that do exist in the new upstream package, it does not remove files that are missing from the new upstream package. mercurial-importorig needs to use a more complicated algorithm to incorporate new upstream packages. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-3-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages mercurial-buildpackage depends on: ii devscripts2.12.2 ii libc6 2.13-35 ii libneko0 1.8.1-6+b1 ii mercurial 2.2.2-1 ii neko 1.8.1-6+b1 ii pristine-tar 1.25 Versions of packages mercurial-buildpackage recommends: ii pbuilder 0.211 ii sudo 1.8.5p2-1 Versions of packages mercurial-buildpackage suggests: ii quilt 0.60-2 -- no debconf information --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Version: 0.10.2+rm Dear submitter, as the package mercurial-buildpackage has just been removed from the Debian archive unstable we hereby close the associated bug reports. Bug#1026433: Removed package(s) from unstable
We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following package(s) have been removed from unstable: mercurial-buildpackage | 0.10.2 | source, amd64, arm64, armel, armhf, i386, mips64el, mipsel, ppc64el, s390x --- Reason --- RoQA; no users left -- Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug. The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the master archive and will not propagate to any mirrors until the next dinstall run at the earliest. Packages are usually not removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency problems. The release team can force a removal from testing if it is really needed, please contact them if this should be the case. We try to close bugs which have been reported against this package automatically. But please check all old bugs, if they were closed correctly or should have been re-assigned to another package. Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you have further comments please address them to 1026...@bugs.debian.org. Bug#1042467: sysv-rc-conf: from bullseye want to uninstall many packages without dependency when trying upgrading it
Package: sysv-rc-conf Version: 0.99-7.1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, * What led up to the situation? After an upgrade from bullseye to bookworm, sysv-rc-conf was tagged as upgrading possible. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? Using synaptic I tried to upgrade it but it ranted throwing a long list of packages it wanted to uninstall, such as colord, gparted, haruna, gufw, etc, however when I check those 4 they have been upgraded correctly and moreover do not show any dependency with sysv-rc-conf ! * What was the outcome of this action? I backed off. * What outcome did you expect instead? sysv-rc-conf to upgrade smoothly, not trying to remove at least 30 packages that don't know it. Ziziz vely stlange, limit weild.
