Bug#819136: Bugs included in #819136 patches
Hello, On Fri, 09 Jun 2017, Elliott Mitchell wrote: > Guess I should give at least a partial list of the extra bugfixes > included in the #819136 patch series: I was looking at bugs with patchs and saw this one. I believe most of the patches are obsolete, the only thing that should remain is the part where you try to generate a separate .deb. Are we actually allowed to build a .deb and distribute the firmware directly in a .deb? I haven't checked but I guess that it's "no", otherwise we would likely ship the firmware ourselves in non-free... I saw you contributed regularly to the package. What about getting a salsa account and taking over package maintenance? In any case, an update on this bug would be appreciated. Upstream referred me to Debian [1] for this and confirmed that 784.2 is the latest version of firmware available [2]. The patch I attached also corrects the description of the firmware version. The description string listed the old postinst referred to the wl driver version. I changed the depends for those upgrading as b43-fwcutter before 018 will not support this newer firmware. Though Debian may not need this, downstream distributions might. Two other issues I may later file/append to bugs on: 1) The listed Debian Package Source Repository (Browseable)[3] only shows 1:018 whereas 1:019 is in the package tracking system. 2) Upstream now lists more supported devices [4] than what the postinst has. Inside firmware-b43-installer's postinst script it tests for Broadcom hardware using the line: pci=`lspci -n | grep -o "14e4:[1234567890abcdef]\+"` || true This though requires a system that has PCI *somewhere* on it and the Broadcom chip to be attached to that. The device I'm working with is a Broadcom 4718, where the 802.11n core is I suspect a variant of the Broadcom 4329. Values of interest from /sys/devices/ssb0:0 vendor 0x04bf coreid 0x0812 name IEEE 802.11 revision 17 uevent MODALIAS=ssb:v04BFid0812rev11 Looks like the version of the b43 driver in the Linux kernel I'm working with lacks support, but I suspect a later version will support the 802.11 core.
