Bug#930581: root-tail: buggy patch in debian package

2019-06-15 Thread Marc Lehmann
Package: root-tail
Version: 1.2-4
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

while preparing release 1.3 of root-tail, I had a look at various
distribution packages for potential bugfixes.

While doing so, I found that debian has a patch that actually introduces a
bug:

config.h.patch Description: Use proper X fonts selector

This replaces the correct value for the font pattern by an incorrect one
(USE_FONT specified a font name, not a "X fonts selector", which, as far
as I know, does not exist in X).

While the effect is likely small on modenr systems, it nevertheless can
lead to fonts being skipped that would normally be found when using the
correct value, or even lead to no fonts being found at all when they would
otherwise be found.

Please consider removing the buggy patch.

Thanks!

Bug#930582: root-tail: version 1.3 has been released

2019-06-15 Thread Marc Lehmann
Package: root-tail
Version: 1.2-4
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

after a tiny hiatus of 15 years, I have released a new version fo root-tail,
version 1.3

it's mainly a cleanup release, but adds a -windowed option that increases
compatibility with compositing managers and similar "modern" desktop
things.

please consider packaging the new version for debian.

Bug#118666: upstream version 1.3 should finally implement a mode similar to this

2019-06-15 Thread Marc Lehmann
Subject says it all - the new 1.3 release finally implementes a -windowed
mode which provides a transparent override redirect window that lets
events through, which should cover this use case.
