Referencer should, for each piece of metadata in its library, keep track of whether that information was provided by the user, imported from another reference library, scraped out of the document, or downloaded from an online source, and should never overwrite information from a source earlier in this list with information from a source later in this list. This may sound like a wishlist feature, but it's not, because not doing this causes data loss. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-4-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US, LC_CTYPE=en_US (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages referencer depends on: ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.19-3 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libatk1.0-01.18.0-2 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libbonobo2-0 2.18.0-2 Bonobo CORBA interfaces library ii libbonoboui2-0 2.18.0-5 The Bonobo UI library ii libboost-regex1.33.1 1.33.1-10 regular expression library for C++ ii libc6 2.5-7 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo2 1.4.6-1 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libfontconfig1 2.4.2-1.2 generic font configuration library ii libgcc11:4.1.2-6 GCC support library ii libgconf2-42.18.0.1-3GNOME configuration database syste ii libgconfmm-2.6-1c2 2.14.2-1 C++ wrappers for GConf (shared lib ii libglade2-01:2.6.0-4 library to load .glade files at ru ii libglademm-2.4-1c2a2.6.2-2 C++ wrappers for libglade2 (shared ii libglib2.0-0 2.12.12-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libglibmm-2.4-1c2a 2.12.7-1 C++ wrapper for the GLib toolkit ( ii libgnome-keyring0 0.8.1-2 GNOME keyring services library ii libgnome-vfsmm-2.6-1c2a2.14.0-1 C++ wrappers for GnomeVFS (shared ii libgnome2-02.18.0-4 The GNOME 2 library - runtime file ii libgnomecanvas2-0 2.14.0-2 A powerful object-oriented display ii libgnomecanvasmm-2.6-1c2a 2.14.0-1 C++ wrappers for libgnomecanvas2 ( ii libgnomemm-2.6-1c2 2.14.0-1 C++ wrappers for libgnome (shared ii libgnomeui-0 2.18.1-2 The GNOME 2 libraries (User Interf ii libgnomeuimm-2.6-1c2a 2.14.0-1 C++ wrappers for libgnomeui (share ii libgnomevfs2-0 1:2.18.1-2GNOME Virtual File System (runtime ii libgtk2.0-02.10.12-1 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libgtkmm-2.4-1c2a 1:2.8.8-1 C++ wrappers for GTK+ 2.4 (shared ii libice61:1.0.3-2 X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii liborbit2 1:2.14.7-0.1 libraries for ORBit2 - a CORBA ORB ii libpango1.0-0 1.16.4-1 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpoppler0c2 0.4.5-5.1 PDF rendering library ii libpopt0 1.10-3lib for parsing cmdline parameters ii libsigc++-2.0-0c2a 2.0.17-2 type-safe Signal Framework for C++ ii libsm6 1:1.0.2-2 X11 Session Management library ii libstdc++6 4.1.2-6 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-6 2:1.0.3-7 X11 client-side library ii libxcursor11:1.1.8-2 X cursor management library ii libxext6 1:1.0.3-2 X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxfixes3 1:4.0.3-2 X11 miscellaneous 'fixes' extensio ii libxi6 1:1.0.

Bug#531711: marked as done (referencer: Allow directories as "paper files")

It is possible to select a directory in the "Select A File" dialog, although referencer makes it a bit difficult: descent into the directory you want to select, type "." into the "Location" field and press the "Open" button. I can then press the "Save" button in the "Document Properties" dialog, and the next time I double click on the document in referencer nautilus will open the directory (just like I want it). If I open the "Document Properties" dialog again however, the "Document/File" property is reset to "(None)". If I (instead of reopening the "Document Properties" dialog) save the library, exit referencer, restart referencer and open the "Document Properties" dialog of the document in question, the "Document/File" property is _not_ reset. Saving alone without restarting does not prevent the resetting of the property. I'm not sure what is the intended behaviour here. Basically I can think of two possibilities: 1) Disallow directories completely. Then the trick I used to set a directory should not work to prevent surprises later. 2) Allow directories. Then the resetting of the "Document/File" property should not happen (at least as long as the directory exists). Making it easier to select directories would be a bonus. Naturally, I would prefer 2). We are not sure your package is impacted, since the exception raise can be in a dead or very rare branch of the code, and so simply never being executed. We would like to leverage your package maintainer status and the relationship with upstream authors to inspect more deeply the issue and act accordingly (that includes: making this bug release critical, closing it as irrelevant, tagging it 'wontfix', or whatever is appropriate). Jakub Wilk made the discovery of the problem and kindly prepared a list [1] of all identified packages (downloaded on 2010-06-09) along with files & lines that triggered the pattern search. [1] http://people.debian.org/~morph/strexp/string-exceptions.lintian This mass-bug filing was announced at 2010-06-06 on [2] (see the thread and the references there). [2] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2010/06/msg00097.html We do not consider the whole situation a stopper for the Python transition to 2.6, except (of course) for those single bugs where severity will be increased. [1] states this field is supposed to call an executable to find out if the program is actually installed. This field is optional and I suggest to remove it from the .desktop file. The Exec field calls referencer without an absolute path. I'd suggest to call /usr/bin/referencer directly as this avoids messing with users' PATH environment. The program desktop-file-validate (package desktop-file-utils) complains: [ snip ] /usr/share/applications/referencer.desktop: warning: value "GNOME;Application;Office;" for key "Categories" in group "Desktop Entry" contains a deprecated value "Application" [ snap ] I've attached a patch that hopefully addresses all issues. Bug#891699: Removed package(s) from unstable
We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following package(s) have been removed from unstable: referencer |1.2.2-2 | source, amd64, arm64, armel, armhf, hurd-i386, i386, kfreebsd-amd64, kfreebsd-i386, mips, mips64el, mipsel, powerpc, ppc64el, s390x --- Reason --- RoQA; unmaintained; depends on unmaintained gconfmm2.6 -- Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug. The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the master archive and will not propagate to any mirrors until the next dinstall run at the earliest. Packages are usually not removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency problems. The release team can force a removal from testing if it is really needed, please contact them if this should be the case. We try to close bugs which have been reported against this package automatically. But please check all old bugs, if they were closed correctly or should have been re-assigned to another package. Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you have further comments please address them to 891...@bugs.debian.org.
