Bug#781354: [cuneiform] Buffer overflow triggered by user supplied image

2015-07-10 Thread Franz Schrober
Control: tags -1 + security
Control: severity -1 grave

The buffer overflow maybe has the potential to introduce a security problem.
This is especially a problem because cuneiform is used by remote users in
different document archiving software/document management system servers.

Package: wxmaxima
Version: 0.8.5-2
Severity: normal

Wxmaxima hangs infinitely long for expressions with special characters, e.g.
"µ".
If it does not support non-ASCII characters, please at least implement a
warning message so that a normal user can figure out what is wrong with his
expression.

When testing this, please note that that ² and ³ are silently converted to ^2
and ^3, so these characters are not affected.

When I enter "µ;" directly into maxima, it prints "[?]" (a hexagonal shaped
character with ? inside, probably meaning illegal UTF8 character), but at least it does not hang
for a long time. (This error is another bug, I will report it soon.)

Thanks

Max Gaukler

This appears to be because the certificate used for localhost uses
sha512 as a message digest. Sendmail does not call
OpenSSL_add_all_algorithms(), which causes OpenSSL not to find the
relevant algorithms. You can see the relevant OpenSSL bug report at
.

Sendmail should probably call OpenSSL_add_all_algorithms().

Package: sendmail
Version: 8.14.3-9

During the sendmail first-time installation I got

Errors in generating sendmail.cf
*** ERROR: FEATURE() should be before MAILER()
*** MAILER(`local') must appear after FEATURE(`always_add_domain')*** ERROR:
FEATURE() should be before MAILER()
*** MAILER(`local') must appear after FEATURE(`allmasquerade')*** ERROR:
FEATURE() should be before MAILER()

sendmail.cf.error says the same. The bad /etc/mail/sendmail.mc
is attached.

I don't expect a predefined sendmail configuration to work,
but wouldn't you agree that it should not produce error messages?

Regards

Harri

Package: sendmail
Version: 8.15.1-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I installed 8.15.1-1 today via apt-get as follows:
apt-get install sendmail/experimental sendmail-base/experimental
sendmail-bin/experimental sendmail-cf/experimental

I remade the sendmail.cf from my sendmail.mc file by:
cd /etc/mail
touch sendmail.mc
make

I restarted sendmail:
make restart

and the following is in the log file:
Jul  3 10:51:55 top sm-mta[26067]: NOQUEUE: SYSERR(root):
/etc/mail/sendmail.cf: line 145: readcf: DontBlameSendmail option:
GroupReadableaDefaultAuthInfoFile unrecognized

Sendmail refuses to start.

GroupReadableaDefaultAuthInfoFile appears in the following file:

/usr/share/sendmail/cf/domain/debian-mta.m4:
defn(`confDONT_BLAME_SENDMAIL')`,GroupWritableIncludeFile,GroupReadableaDefaultAuthInfoFile')dnl'

You have a spelling error:

GroupReadableaDefaultAuthInfoFile
 ^
GroupReadableDefaultAuthInfoFile

I removed the extraneous a and sendmail starts.

generating sendmail.cf from default sendmail.mc caused some errors.
MAILER DEFINITIONS location are currently misplaced. Moving them to the end of
the file solved it.

Package: sendmail
Version: 8.13.3-6

Masquerading wasn't working, and I discovered some problems with
the way sendmail.mc is built by sendmailconfig.

First, the MAILER_DEFINITIONS appear twice. When I removed
the first set which appears before the LOCAL_CONFIG FEATUREs,
it works correctly and it also removes a slew of errors about
the order of statements in the sendmail.cf file.

Second, the MASQUERADE_AS line is not being generated. When
I put it in by hand it works correctly.

Also, if I run sendmailconfig and have it regenerate the
sendmail.mc file, it removes any previous customizations I
have made to the file. If it's possible to have local
customizations be kept when the file is regenerated, could
a comment be included to let admins know how to do this?
If not, could there be an include statement for a file
named something like sendmail.mc.local?

Is this still occurring with the libmilter from jessie, stretch, sid, or
experimental? I.e. version 8.14.4-8 or newer.

Yes, sid still shows this.

And since the last two updates to opendkim, it crashes daily again.
Some days multiple times per day.

It hadn't been crashing for a while before that. But the Virt still
