Tags: patch
Version: 2.3.3-1
architecture: hppa

This patch is needed for audit support on the hppa architecture.
I just sent this patch upstream as well.

In addition a second patch for the debian/rules file is needed too which
I will send shortly.

It would be nice if you could apply this patch to debian unstable.

Thanks,
Helge Deller

Bug#735944: closed by Ralf Treinen (Bug#735944: fixed in audit 1:2.3.3-2)

sadly the build on hppa failed.
Reason is, that the diff in debian/patches/build-on-hppa looks for all changed
files like this:
- --- a/tools/ausyscall/ausyscall.c   (revision 892)
+++ b/tools/ausyscall/ausyscall.c   (working copy)
(they start with a/ or b/ !)

But for the new file lib/parisc_table.h it currently is:
- --- /dev/null
+++ lib/parisc_table.h
while it should be instead:
- --- a/dev/null
+++ b/lib/parisc_table.h

Can you change that ?
Then it should work.

Thanks,
Helge

Proposed new requirements for emacsen add-on packages

2014-01-19 Thread Rob Browning

Recently I've been fixing some non-trivial problems I introduced in
emacsen-common 2.0.0 -- and to finish fixing them it looks like it may
be best to change (and augment) some of the add-on package requirements.

Originally, I'd really tried to make it so that as of emacsen-common
2.*, add-on packages didn't have to depend on *anything*, but that's
proving difficult to unworkable, so I'm leaning toward adding a
requirement that add-on packages depend on "emacsen-common >= 2.0.8".

If it helps, emacsen-common is only about 140k installed.

Here's what I have so far from the hypothetical 2.0.8 changelog:

Require add-on packages to depend on emacsen-common >= 2.0.8.

This should be simpler and safer, and emacsen-common is only ~140k,
which shouldn't be too big a burden. One specific problem this solves
is the handling of /var/lib/emacsen-common -- in particular
/var/lib/emacsen-common/state/package/installed/* if/when
emacsen-common is purged. Without the dependency, emacsen-common
can't remove the tree without clobbering the state for every add-on,
but if emacsen-common can't remove it, who can?

It seems better to add this requirement for now (which should also
simplify the emacsen infrastructure in general), than to have every
add-on try to decide when it's safe to remove
/var/lib/emacsen-common/state/package (i.e. when they're the last
add-on being removed from the system).

This release changes the following requirements for add-on packages
(see debian-emacs-policy for the details):

  - They must now depend on emacsen-common >= 2.0.8.
  - They don't need to conflict with emacsen-common anymore.
  - They don't need to guard their calls to emacs-install-package.
  - They don't need to guard their calls to emacs-remove-package.
  - They should no longer manage their package/installed/ file directly.

In addition emacsen flavor packages should now depend on
emacsen-common >= 2.0.8.

Thoughts?  Strong objections?

(And for whatever it's worth, I've been posting some relevant bits to
 debian-emac...@lists.debian.org lately, but I imagined that many/most
 of you aren't subscribed.)

Thanks

just checked it again, the file wrongly has long as 64 bit type *after*
the package has built. So it has not been reconfigured from the configure.

I disagree, all three issues found do seem like independent issues with
little relation (on amd64 at least).
the exif tag truncation is very unlikely cause the complete data
structure corruption.
While I think its unlikely it is possible the tag truncation patch fixes
it, I didn't test it (does it even apply to the old libtiff?)

The wrong type sizes can not be related because I tested that and it
only affects 32 bit (which I was not using for debugging).

I didn't look into much detail why the tiff plugin is so messed up, as
simply updating the debian patch solved all my problems and I could move
on to the next one (the tag truncation).
Whatever route you choose, please make sure the skimage test suite is
running afterwards.

Ok, so there are three bugs:

1)

Ah, Sources/LibTIFF4 instead of LibTIFF on the lines that updated the
sources. Thanks for finding that (gensrclist.sh, genfipsrclist.sh)

2) [patch is available]
> tag truncation

3)
> The wrong type sizes can not be related because I tested that and it

On bug #3, it looks like Source/LibTIFF/ is configured at build time,
but Source/LibTIFF4/ has already been configured and shipped by
upstream.

This is extra confusing, because upstream's tiffconf.h in SVN doesn't
match what they are distributing in their source tarballs:
http://freeimage.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/freeimage/FreeImage/Source/LibTIFF4/tiffconf.h?view=markup
At no point in the history did tiffconf.h match what they are distributing.

Also, this has been reported before:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=601762

And fixed with these two patches
http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=collab-maint/freeimage.git;a=commitdiff;h=5657e6b0bbc7def9e5598e6872a91a202b7b4113

namely
+/* Signed 64-bit type formatter */
+#define TIFF_INT64_FORMAT "%" PRId64
+
+/* Signed 64-bit type */
+#if SIZEOF_LONG == 8
+#define TIFF_INT64_T signed long
+#else
+#define TIFF_INT64_T signed long long
+#endif
+
+/* Unsigned 64-bit type formatter */
+#define TIFF_UINT64_FORMAT "%" PRIu64
+
+/* Unsigned 64-bit type */
+#if SIZEOF_LONG == 8
+#define TIFF_UINT64_T unsigned long
+#else
+#define TIFF_UINT64_T unsigned long long
+#endif

I'll go ahead and ask upstream if they could reconsider allowing their
packages to build using system libraries, these are all things best
handled by (and probably already solved by) libtiff maintainers.

Thanks again,
Scott
