Subject: zgv scrambles screen with svgatextmode, latter must be rerun
Package: zgv
Version: 5.5-1
Severity: important

zgv scrambles itself on loading, leaving bar-code like lines horizontally
across the screen. It functions as if there is no problem, but the lines
are there when any image is loaded, and on exiting, the console is scrambled
and svgatextmode must be rerun. (I have not tested this with framebuffer.)

I installed in a different order, so perhaps this is taken care of.
Apologies if so.
I experienced problems using svga packages after moving to use of a
frame buffer. Many were cleared up forcing frame buffer usage
via the configuration file.
My suggestion, if not already implimented, is that when libsvga1
is installed, a check should be made for the presence of a frame buffer
device, and if present, the line for the frame buffer device / chip set
in /etc/vga/libvga.config should be uncommented.
This doesn't solve all svga/fbdev problems, but it made
a couple of usefull utilities, zgv and bmv usable for me,
and maybe it can save some other users grief, and allow them to get
use out of svga tools.

I can display graphical files with zgv in console mode (I'm using framebuffer),
but then I can't exit graphic mode. The
monitor doesn't receive any signal from the central unit.

Note that if I had opened a X session before launching zgv I can still access
it and work normally. It's just that I have no more consoles.

Note also that this problem doesn't happen with fbi for examples, where it
switches normally for one graphic in a console to text in another one.

My video card is:

Let me know if you need more info.

Cheers,

Subject: libsvga1: hardware crash on particular ZGV operation
Package: libsvga1
Version: 1:1.4.3-17
Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***

This is nasty, really. When I ask ZGV for filename information (by
hitting the colon) my entire machine locks. The Magic Sysrq keys don't
work. But only for this particular file (so far), and only when I've
reached that file through a ZGV directory listing.

How to reproduce:
- Have ZGV handy
- Download
http://library.em.ca/art/Barrias%2c_Louis-Ernest/Nature_Revealed_Before_Science.jpeg
- Run ZGV in the directory where the file is saved
- View Nature_Revealed_Before_Science.jpeg (warning, she's naked and
  really cute)
- Press colon
This results in a complete crash for me. I've crashed my machine like
this four times now.

I have an ATI Radeon 7000. Svgalib is told to use the video card as a
VESA card.

The above instructions do not cause any crashes on my 486 laptop which
has an C&T video card, also under the VESA driver. There is also no
crash on a Pentium classic machine with an S3 Tria PCI video card, also
under the VESA driver.

| tomg@nova:~$ cat /etc/vga/libvga.config
| mouse MouseSystems
| mdev /dev/gpmdata
| HorizSync 28 70
| VertRefresh 40 120
| chipset VESA
| #chipset FBDev
| tomg@nova:~$

I don't know what to recommend...

libc6 version 2.3.6-7

My video chipset (integrated into the motherboard on my

Section "Device"
Identifier "trident CyberBlade/i7"

and works fine.

Until the last week or so, I was using mplayer with
svgalib, adjusted to use the VESA in the /etc/vga/libvga.config
and it worked great, with no need for X.
Recently it began failing, giving a segmentation fault,
never showing any video at all.
The VGA setting still works (and I think TVGA also, but I can't tell
any difference in the results.), as does mplayer with the X11 driver
in X, and aalib as well.

Hello maintainer,

While checking for bashisms in debian/rules with checkbashisms (from

checkbashisms' output:

Not using bash (or a Debian Policy conformant shell interpreter which does
provide such an extra feature) as /bin/sh is likely to lead to errors or
unexpected behaviours.
Please be aware that although bash is currently the default /bin/sh there's a
release goal for Lenny to make dash the default /bin/sh[1].

If you want more information about dash as /bin/sh, you can read:

Package: libsvga1
Version: 1:1.4.3-27
Severity: normal
File: /usr/lib/libvga.so.1

When I boot my computer, my Philips 192E LCD Monitor displays all
console messages from the BIOS, the bootloader and Linux correctly
before starting X-Windows. However, both on shutdown and on switching
to a textmode virtual console (using Ctrl+Alt+F1) this monitor
complains: 'Cannot display this video mode'. On reboot, the shutdown
messages are not displayed, but the startup messages are displayed
correctly.

Switching the monitor's power off (either before or after the
Ctrl+Alt+F1) and on again does not bypass this problem. This monitor
uses a VGA cable for the connection with the computer.

This is a problem as I require a textmode virtual console to safely
upgrade from lenny to squeeze. I cannot find a telinit runlevel that
starts my computer without starting X-Windows. I doubt that I can
perform this upgrade after booting Debian into single user mode.

This bug may be related to #125819: svgalib: doesn't switch back to
framebuffer mode. However, the last activity on that bug was on 01
Dec 2002 21:13:50 +0100.

Please correct me if I have entered this report against the wrong
package.

Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag

Bug#725816: sbnc: irc connectins die while listening on SSL port and someone portscans us

2013-10-08 Thread Milos Kaurin
Package: sbnc
Version: 1.2-26
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,
I was doing some portscans on my home network, when I noticed that my irc
connections
die after i portscan my sbnc host. The connections re-establish after a while,
but this issue could be very annoying if someone else found out about the bug
and
decided to harass me (or anyone using sbnc).

The nmap command in question:
nmap -A -T4 -v

After some troubleshooting, and asking around on #sbnc on quakenet, it turns out
that this is an old bug, which can be worked around by starting sbnc with
parameter
"--lpc" OR by installing a newer version. The bug affects only sbnc servers
that listen via ssl.

I've "fixed" this issue on my box by changing the init file, and adding "--
--lpc"
to the "start-stop-daemon" lines. (start/restart)

The --lpc parameter disables starting child processes.
