Bug#710825: Removed package(s) from unstable

2013-06-03 Thread Debian FTP Masters
We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following
package(s) have been removed from unstable:

   zgv | 5.9-6 | source, amd64, i386

--- Reason ---
RoQA; obsolete with svgalib removal
--

Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag
database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug.
The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite
references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references
it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the
master archive and will not propagate to any mirrors (ftp.debian.org
included) until the next dinstall run at the earliest.

Packages are usually not removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks
unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed
from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency
problems. The release team can force a removal from testing if it is
really needed, please contact them if this should be the case.

We try to close bugs which have been reported against this package
automatically. But please check all old bugs, if they were closed
correctly or should have been re-assigned to another package.

Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you
have further comments please address them to 710...@bugs.debian.org.

The full log for this bug can be viewed at http://bugs.debian.org/710825

Package: zgv
Version: 5.9-2
Severity: wishlist

According to the documentation, zgv can be built to
use SDL as the backend instead of directly using SVGAlib.
It would be nice to have such a package, since it would
interoperate with more graphics packages, reducing dependencies
on a single library.

Below is an adaptation of the fimgs script, zgs, to use zgv in compliment
of fim/fbi to view pdf, ps etc., allowing use of unique zgv features such
as generation/viewing/selection via thumbnails.
The script is not perfect right now, could use a bit of cleanup,
but is usable. Thanks for any feedback/consideration.

Package: zgv
Version: 5.9-2
Severity: normal

With svgalib configured to use a framebuffer,
-
chipset FBDEV
-
in /etc/vga/libvga.cfg, about half the time zgv renders
the image with 'solarized'/psychedelic colors that are
totally unrealistic.
This seems to be corrected with the -j/--force-viewer-8bit
switch, or setting in /etc/zgv.conf.

If this is expected behaviour, it needs to be better documented.
(I spent a year having to use fbi till I found this out.)
If it is not, then it is a definite bug in the software.

When playing animated .gif's, things are initially ok,
but then it soon flips into the solarized mode.
This is not to critical to me personally
(I can use mplayer on these files if needed),
but something is wrong.

Thanks so much!

Package: zgv
Version: 5.6-1.2

I have a laptop. It is a rebranded Mitac mic5033 400Mhz K6-2, 160MB Ram
machine with a trident graphic chip. lspci ouput: 00:02.0 VGA compatible
controller: Trident Microsystems TGUI 9660/938x/968x (rev d3)
The display is 800x600.

I recently did am apt-get dist-upgrade from stable to testing. Now I run
Sarge with a 2.4.22 custom (make-kpkg) made kernel.

When I type in zgv my I see two yellow lines a couple pixel thick on my lcd.
One in the middle going from left to right and on at the top going from left
to right. I was unable to exit the program by using ctrl-c, change console
or login via ssh from another machine. The computer was completely frozen. It
didn't even return a ping any more.

After a cold start the lines were still visible on the screen. After I shut
down the machine for 20 minutes they faded and are now not visible any more.

To check what i had just witnessed I rebooted and did a dpkg -P zgv and
after that a clean apt-get install zgv. Then I logged into a normal console and
had no other programs running. I got the exact same result.

I was running reiserfs on my main partition and have serious problem
repairing it at the moment. The bug seemed to have a really bad karma.
Therefore I
do not feel like testing this bug out any more. Sorry.

Thanks,

Malte Schmidt-Tychsen

Package: zgv
Version: 5.2-1
Severity: wishlist

Sometimes the test used in mailcap entries for zgv will fail, even if it's
possible to run zgv.
Eg. urlview when given a message on stdin reopens stdin on /dev/tty, which I
suspect is reasonable but which also means tty will print /dev/tty not giving
us a clue if we're running on a virtual console or anything else.
There's also nothing wrong in running zgv in splitvt environment, from mc, etc.

Honestly, I have no idea how to check properly for what zgv requires (that we're
running on the console or owning current VT) other than rip the code from zgv
itself (function fixvt which unfortunately relies on being run as root) or add
an option to zgv that just does the check.

BTW: looking at the code I wonder how well zgv itself copes with devfs?

Zgv (which was my favourite image viewer) stopped working a while ago.
Unfortunately, I originately suspected this would be a short-time
problem and ignored it, so I can no longer point exactly at the problem.

However, I *suspect* it may have been the change in grapgic card:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Matrox Graphics, Inc. MGA G400 AGP (rev 82)

Just for completeness, there's also available a kernel update, a general
motherboard update, and switching most stuff to the current stable
distribution.

Anyway, symptoms: Screen goes black, zgv seems to still react to
keyboard.

Severity: important

The display goes black after using zgv to view a jpg image, and it is not
possible to return to a working console.

Switching virtual consoles will not revive the display, making it necessary
to telnet the machine from a remote for rebooting.

This problem was observed on a computer fitted with an ATI Radeon 9200 card
using the open source radeon driver. The problem may be exhibited on other
hardware.

Do we know how many of the lesstif2 reverse dependencies are libraries
whose ABI would change if rebuilt with motif instead?
