Package: wmaker
Version: 0.92.0-5.3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Directly after upgrading to X11R7, wmaker simply segfaults on startup,
giving me the familiar crash dialog. I'm not really sure why it would do
this, but it's reproducible every time, so I'd guess something is wrong
:-)

Package: wmaker
Severity: normal
Version: 0.62.1-3
Synopsis: WindowMaker crashes on sassion save
Class:sw-bug

Distribution: Debian Woody
System: Linux 2.2.18pre20 i686 unknown

Description:
It's really very simple... set a window to stay sunken, then try to exit
or restart
WindowMaker with automatic session save turned on. Instant sig11, and
you
are offered the standard three choices of restarting WM, starting a new
manager, or dumping out and leaving a core file.

Just saving the session manually works every time. It's only when WM
tries
to auto-save it that this occurs.

Package: wmaker
Version: 0.60.0-4
Severity: important

After upgrading from Window Maker 0.20.x, Window Maker no longer preprocesses
menus correctly. My WMRootMenu file contains the default

"menu.hook"

this results in the following when starting X:

/usr/bin/X11/WindowMaker error: could not find menu file "menu.hook" referenced
in WMRootMenu: No such file or directory
WindowMaker: /usr/src/debian/wmaker-0.60.0/src/startup.c:585:
wScreenForRootWindow: Assertion `"bad_root_window" && 0' failed.
/usr/bin/X11/WindowMaker fatal error: got signal 6 (Aborted)

And I get a nice dialog box from Window Maker asking what I want to do about
the abort. Replacing "menu.hook" with the full path to the file (in
/etc/X11/WindowMaker) solves the problem but even then I get errors from cpp:

/etc/X11/WindowMaker/menu.hook:7: menu.prehook: No such file or directory
/etc/X11/WindowMaker/menu.hook:479: menu.posthook: No such file or directory

I am using Debian 2.1 on Alpha, kernel versions 2.2.9/2.3.10.

I have built wmaker and libproplist from source myself.

Note that this problem did not occur when I did pretty much the same thing on
an i386 slink box at work.

Relevant packages:

libproplist0 0.8.3-1
libc6.1 2.0.7.19981211
gcc 2.91.66-0slink1 (from proposed-updates)
g++ 2.91.66-0slink1
cpp 2.91.66-0slink1

Cheers,

The Debian WindowMaker menu should have a "Run..." entry as the default
WindowMaker menu does. I propose adding the folowing to
/etc/X11/WindowMaker/menu.prehook

"Run..." SHEXEC %a(Run,Type command to run:)
#include "menu"

The first line adds the "Menu..." item and the second gives access to
the complete upstream WindowMaker menu. Perhaps the second line would be
better placed in /etc/X11/WindowMaker/menu.posthook so as to be at the
bottom?

Package: wmaker
Version: 0.91.0-7.2
Severity: grave

Hello,

there is no dialog window of any qt-application opening visible with
windowmaker. I've testet licq, qtparted, k3b and the kernel build
configurator "make xconfig". It's always reproducable and makes
qt-applications useless with wmaker. The window frame of each qt
application is visible, but opening any dialog window is not.
Pressing ALT+TAB I can see that there should be the just opened dialog
windows but I can't switch to any of them and they seem to be invisible.
It is working with windowmaker for ia32 debian and other windowmanager
like gnome for amd64, so it seems to be a bug in windowmaker for amd64.

Regards,
Alexander

I have a laptop that occasionally experiences screen corruption when it is
resumed after being suspened. Basically something scribbles all ofer viedo
memory.

I can select the screen refresh item from window maker's menu to refresh the
screen and get rid of the corruption. This worked well with a single
exception - any docked applications, such as asclock, asasmixer, wmbattery,
are not completly refreshed. The actual portion of the icon drawn by the
application is refreshed (thus I do not this this is a bug in the
applications themselves), but the icon backgrounds are not and ramian
corrupted. I currently have to restart windowmaker to force those icon
background to be redrawn. I'd like windowmaker to refersh them along with
everything else.

This change in NMU 8.2 is broken:
-
adjusted following lintian warnings:
- dh-clean-k-is-deprecated
-

The NMU changes *all* calls of dh_clean in debian/rules to dh_prep,
instead of limiting this change to "dh_clean -k" stanzas. Which is why
we now have junk in the diff.gz:

ametzler@argenau:/tmp/WMAKER$ interdiff -z wmaker_0.92.0-8.1.diff.gz \

Package: wmaker
Version: 0.80.2-0.4
Severity: important

WMaker does not handle switching between workspaces correctly; in
order to see what I mean, please try out the following:

1) Open up GIMP 2.0.6 in workspace N
2) Open up a dialog, say "File->Open..." dialog and dismiss it with
"Cancel"
3) Move GIMP's Toolbox and all of its other windows to a workspace K
where K != N
4) Open up the "File->Open..." dialog again
5) ??? Scratch your bald spot
6) Discover that the dialog got opened in the old workspace N

I agree this is not necessarily a bug, but if you've got a large
number of cluttered workspaces, this can be mighty confusing... IMHO,
if all of GIMP's windows are in workspace K, then all its new dialogs
by all means should also get displayed in this workspace!

I first reported that to GIMP's bugzilla, but GIMP people tell me it is
not their problem and everything behaves correctly in Sawfish or
Metacity. Please take a look at

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=159732

best,

Leszek Koltunski

Hello,

there are problems when running licq (1.3.0-2) on windowmaker in debian
sid for amd64. I'm not sure if the following bugs are bugs in
windowmaker, but I do think so, because it's all working with other
window managers like gnome.

1) There is no dialog window opening in licq (e.g. skin browser,
preferences). Switching through all windows with ALT+TAB you can see,
that the dialog window should be open, but it seems to be invisible and
cannot be set visible what makes it useless.

2) The first chat message dialog window (sending or receiving) pops up
invisibly but can be set visible switching to that dialog window with
ALT+TAB.

Regards,
Alexander

When wmsetbg is invoked to display a .PNG image file, it segfaults.

$ wmsetbg ./some-background.png
Segmentation fault

It's not the image file, because Esetroot will load it fine.

I do have libpng3 installed.

Package: wmaker
Version: 0.91.0-7.2
Severity: important

Hello,

I'd like to report a (or may be this are two?) bug with WindowMaker
which occurs if it has to display 'full-screen' in OpenOffice.
The Debian configuration is 'stable' at the 'proposed-updates'-level,
(i.e. sarge(-proposed-updages)), Intel i386 architecture.

The problem is 'new' for sarge, it didn't occur with 'woody'
and its '0.80' wmaker version and it exists for several graphic
architectures (e.g. ati, nvidia, mga) for different X11 screen
sizes (1024x768, 1280x1024, 1600x1200). It also does not(!) appear
when using GNOME or KDE resp. their windowmanagers, thus it is
most likely related to (just) WindowMaker (0.91).

The problem is, that when going to 'full-screen' mode in OpenOffice
Impress via menu or short-key Ctrl-Shift-J, the window becomes large,
but the 'offset' to the upper-left corner is somewhere to the left
and above mid-screen, but not in the real upper-left hand corner;
also the window-borders are missing (or overlapped), so that it
cannot be dragged or repositioned. Thus this mode is useless.

This would account for a severity of 'normal' in my eyes, but what
makes it 'important' instead is, that the presentation mode of
(OpenOffice) Impress gives a window totally within the screen-window,
but considerably smaller than the screen (as if it got a wrong size
information), has no borders (which would be expected here!), and
has a contents of large black stripes at the top and bottom and an
(empty?) white mid-section. This, of course, makes the presentation
mode useless!

The OpenOffice versions I experienced this with, are a 1.1.4 version
(self-installed) as well as the 1.1.3 version included in the Debian
sarge distribution; thus it is unlikely, that it is a OpenOffice
problem - especially since it works as expected 'under' GNOME and
KDE.

I'm sorry, but I have no idea what the origin of the problem is or
how to avoid or fix it.

Any help or fix is welcome.

Thanks for the good work and with best regards,
 Ruediger Oberhage

OpenOffice impress (Debian package 1.1.3-3) can not do fullscreen
slideshow with Wmaker. Fullscreen editing works (Ctrl-Shift-j) but F9
for slideshow does not give a fullscreen window but only a window of the
same size as the ooimpress window without decorations.

Impress works fine with KDE (kwin) so I suspect it's Wmaker at fault.

Hullo,

One is able to exit from the 'exit window manager?' confirmation dialog box
with the escape key, but not from the 'Run' dialog box. Could you implement the
shortcut for the latter box as well?

Thanks,

Peter

Package: wmaker
Version: 0.92.0-5.2
Severity: important

The behaviour of icons (minimized applications) is severely broken when
automatic placement is switched on.
* When switching the workspace icons often stick thereby covering (and
hiding) icons on the workspace one is switching to.
* After minimizing an application, clicking (singly or doubly) on one of
the icons causes all of them to reshuffle, usually in a way that the
icon in question changes its place (which is extremely annoying).
* Icon placement ignores the dock so that icons disappear behind
  it/cover it.

All of these suddenly appeared about a year ago (I think with 91.0). The
problems are not architecture-specific since they occur in exactly the
same way on my pentium machine. Wiping the complete configuration (rm -r
~/GNUstep) did not make a change either.

Package: inkscape
Version: 0.40-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

If I start Inkscape and ask it to open a file (or draw any element on
screen and ask for its properties, or any other action that requires
opening a dialog), my window manager (WindowMaker) seems to crash and
restart.

Inkscape does not always dump information regarding this problem, up to
now, I only get this warning while trying to open a new file:

(inkscape:13614): Gtk-WARNING **: Could not find the icon
'gnome-fs-home'. The 'hicolor' theme
was not found either, perhaps you need to install it.
You can get a copy from:
http://freedesktop.org/Software/icon-theme/releases

I think this might indicate some unfulfilled dependency.

Also, after this problem has ocurred, if I click the 'close' button on
the Inkscape window, it does not respond anymore. There must also be
some resource leak, as I just checked memory usage and (after some 10
such events I have had) the X binary is hogging up 383MB RAM (only 38M
shared).

Thank you very much,

-Gunnar Wolf

Package: wmaker
Version: 0.20.3-5

The version in stable of WindowMaker "yells" to the user when he
tries to modify the "Applications Menu Definitions" when started for the
first time, since it says that the format of G/D/WMRootMenu is not
compatible.
As seen when the user starts wmaker for the first time the file is
placed with just contains
>>
 "menu.hook"
<<
The user get the default menu file for wmaker but cannot
configure it. There should be a default file installed that the user can
customize that gets hooked in with the menu file.
Copying the /etc/X11/WindowMaker/plmenu file (and none
other, there are translations also for other languages) fixes this, but
the user will not be able to see changes made in the menu system (since
his config file will not be modified)

Regards

Javi

Package: wmaker
Version: 0.62.1-3
Severity: normal

Set a window to sunken from its Attributes menu. Doesn't matter what the
window is... it seems to be anything at all. Verify that the window is
indeed sunken. Now, try to exit or restart WindowMaker. Instant sig11.

If autosave of session files is turned off, nothing happens. If you save
the session file manually, from the menu, nothing happens. Only when
WindowMaker tries to autosave it does the fault occur.

This is NOT related to the NFS bug others seem to be experiencing. Session
files here are not being saved to a NFS volume.

I have duplicated this behavior on two completely unrelated machines besides
my own.

Hi,
Is there any possibility of releasing a dynamic library version of
libWINGs and libWUtil? If binary compatibility could be kept under
control (I suppose that depends on upstream), it would be nice so that
wmakerconf (and other libWINGs/WUtil-dependent programs, if there are any)
doesn't produce a binary dependent upon the version of libwings-dev on the
system.

I have 4 virtual desktops in WindowMaker, and the icon of rxvt in the clip
set as Omnipresent; if I start X and click on this icon it disappears, but
it's sufficient to swap to another desktop to make it appear again.
The problem doesn't happen anymore, until I close X and run it again; even
restarting only wmaker doesn't seem to recreate the conditions for the
problem to happen.
I've been using wmaker for a couple years and the this happened in all the
versions I tried.

Hi,

If I use wmaker 0.91.0-1 and I want to display my OpenOffice.org
presentation in fullscreen mode I still see the window title and some
other windows decorations.

OpenOffice.org fullscreen works fine with wmaker 0.80.2-0.4 so I guess
the "bug" has been introduced by wmaker 0.91.0-1.

Thanks,

Package: openoffice.org
Version: 1.1.3-4
Severity: minor

I noticed this very strange behavior on my system: I cannot maximize
OpenOffice (Right Mouse Click -> Menu -> Maximize) when the OpenOffice
window is not at the upper left corner. Altough the window itself gets
bigger, the window content is not updated, e.g not drawn.
It works as soon as the window is placed at position (0, 0) of the
current screen.

I use WindowMaker 0.91.0, no Gnome, no KDE.

Best regards
Andreas

Hello,

I recently upgraded from etch to lenny, and WindowMaker has some refresh
problems since. It is frequent when switching workspaces, and very
annoying: focus is not where it seems to be, and window contents are
polluted by underlying windows.

Luckily, a patch for this has already been posted to the WindowMaker
list:
http://lists.windowmaker.info/dev/msg00045.html

I tried the patch with the currently packaged version of wmaker, and it
solved my problem. I understand from the patch comments that this is a
workaround, but from a user's point of view, it is an excellent
solution, so I think it would be good to have it in the released
package.

FWIW the system is an old and slow laptop, so I use a 16bpp display (and
wmaker of course) to speed things up a bit. From xdpyinfo I see that
Composite is present (default in current Xorg I guess), though I have no
idea if it's really enabled or useful (old ATI Rage mobility chipset),
but it seems to trigger the problem (it showed up with the upgrade from
etch to lenny, and with etch the Composite option was probably not
enabled).

Thanks a lot for keeping WindowMaker alive!

Bug#654524: wmaker FTBFS on all architectures when building only arch packages

2012-01-03 Thread Scott Howard
Source: wmaker
Severity: serious
Version: 0.95.0+20111028-1
thanks

FTBFS on this line in debian/rules:
# Fix perms for /usr/share/WindowMaker/*sh
chmod +x debian/wmaker-common/usr/share/WindowMaker/autostart.sh
chmod: cannot access
`debian/wmaker-common/usr/share/WindowMaker/autostart.sh': No such
file or directory

wmaker-common is an architecture-independent package, so autostart.sh
is never installed to debian/wmaker-common/usr/share/WindowMaker since
the buildd don't rebuild indep packages (dh_install was only called
with the -a flag, not the -i flag that would be needed to install
autostart.sh)

Possible fix:
have debian/rules check if the debian/wmaker-common directory exists
before trying to change the permissions of those two scripts.

Rodolfo, you can put a fixed package up on mentors. I'll check it out
and sponsor it for you when you're ready.

~Scott

Previous versions of the xmcd package (before 2.5pl1-7.1) used set-user-id
binaries to access SCSI drives and update CDDB databases.

For security reasons this has changed. Now you should add users who wish to
update the databases to the "audio" group, and users who wish to access
drives to the "cdrom" group. NB: User group changes don't take effect until
you have logged out and logged back in again.

You will also need to make your cdrom device readable and writeable by the
cdrom group. If this still doesn't work, please ensure that you are using
the "Linux IOCTL" method to access the drive (look at
"deviceInterfaceMethod" in /etc/xmcd/device.cfg and check it is set to "1").

please tell me. KSCD is not a good alternative.

I believe it's policy (sect 9.9 "Environment variables") that programs
should work without users setting env vars like this. That's assuming
it's meant to be used outside the xmcd gui of course, which I'm
guessing from the nice man page it is.

On inserting a CD, xmcd succesfully retrieves the cddb information
from a local server, but a dialog box appears

   "! File save error!:

On clicking the "Filing Cabinet" button to bring up the
CD Database / Track Program Editor, the track information
is present but on clicking "Save" button, a dialog box
appears with

   "i No CD Database director."

/usr/share/xmcd/cddb is a link to /var/lib/cddb which contains
all of the category directories

Replacing this link with a real directory and subdirectories
has no effect on the error messages.

Creating a directory and subdirectories in the "default"
location of /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xmcd/cddb has no effect
on the error message.

The user environment has no XMCD* variables set.

Any help in explaining the cause of this problem
and resolving it, would be greatly appreciated.

Greg Miller

When cddbcmd receives a short lines in response from cddbd, it leaves
the CR-LF on the line, even though the characters are removed for
short lines. This is particularly noticeable for "cddb read" commands.

cddbcmd cddb read rock 89081e0b

where the first few lines look like this:

# xmcd CD database file
#

# Track frame offsets:

I have a fix below which solves this problem, but there may be a
reason for the slightly odd code where the check for CR-LF doesn't
start until buf[4]. In the case where I have had problems, the second
line looks like "#\r\n". It is only 3 characters long. Since the
check starts after the end of the string, '\0' may not be found until
after the end of the buffer.

Unfortunately, there may be reason for starting the check at character
4, but it isn't explained in the source code.

My suggested change starts the check at character 0, so every line has
CR-LF deleted.

Here's a patch which fixes the problem.

Sometimes, when I am playing a CD with xmcd, it will just jump forward
by 10-15 seconds while playing a track. It happens with different CDs
seemingly randomly; however, if a jump appears on more than one
occasion with the same CD, it tends to be in the same sort of place
each time.

Any clues, or what extra information might be useful?

   Julian

I have noticed that when I have rebooted my machine, then trying to
play a CD using xmcd produces no sound. However, running timidity on
a short MIDI file first allows xmcd to work properly. Even if xmcd is
already running and attempting to play a CD, as soon as timidity
starts, xmcd starts producing sound.

I have a Toshiba laptop and am running kernel 2.2.14. I can give you
more specs if you wish.

   Julian

I have xmcd running in a 3x3 virtual desktop under fvwm 2.2. When
started, pressing 'p' toggles play/pause, 'j' ejects, and so on, as
in the manual. If I move around the virtual desktop using the
mouse, there's no problem; the keyboard accelerators continue to
work. However, if I use a keystroke[1] to move around the virtual
desktop, the accelerators usually no longer have any effect, though
tab, arrows and space can still be used to operate the UI.

[1] I have this bound in fvwm to Alt+ keys, though I find I
have to use Meta+ instead (in my setup, Meta is mod1, and
is on the key labelled "Alt"; Alt is mod4 and is on the "w*nd*ws"
key - only Emacs seems to DTRT in this configuration).

Occasionally (but not repeatably, sigh) I've managed to get the
functionality to reappear. I can usually do this by minimising it
with the window manager and bringing it back again, but we're getting
into non-determinate behaviour here. IOW, it sometimes works and
sometimes doesn't. And sometimes it only works for one keystroke and
then stops working. I'm baffled.

I think this may actually be a Lesstif bug, or a fvwm one, but I'm
reporting it here because this is where I've seen it. Feel free to
reassign if you think it's misplaced.

Thanks for maintaining Debian's xmcd package.

It provides hours of pleasure.

The main reason that I'm writing is to suggest
packaging the new upstream version.

Unstable has version 2.6-17 but 3.3.2 is
available.

xmcd evidently started supporting CD-TEXT at version
3.2.0.

Thanks,
Kingsley
