You'll get an error dialog with the text: Application "gpilotd-control-applet" (process 17014) has crashed due to a fatal error. (Segmentation fault) 4. The next time you start the Palm conduit configuration tool, the conduit is listed with a Sync Action of "Synchronize". 5. This is only on my laptop, though, not on the PDA. The multiplication happens to all memos, regardless whether they were actually modified or not. BTW there's fairly little documentation on conduits, but I don't think this behaviour is configurable... At home I have a KDE environment and it synchronizes perfectly the address book. At work I have a GNOME environment, I use evolution. The synchronization takes place but there is a problem with the surnames. I Spain we have 2 surnames, when I transfer data from the PDA to the PC it interprets the first surname as the 2nd name and the 2nd surname as the 1st surname. So in successive times, when I synchronize the PC and the PDA the data in the PDA is corrupted since the 1st surname (the most important one) does not appear, well it appears as part of the name that is not very useful. Bug#626614: Removed package(s) from unstable
We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following package(s) have been removed from unstable: gnome-pilot-conduits | 2.0.17-2 | source, alpha, kfreebsd-amd64, kfreebsd-i386 gnome-pilot-conduits | 2.32.1-2 | source, amd64, armel, hppa, i386, ia64, mips, mipsel, powerpc, s390, sparc gnome-pilot-conduits-data | 2.32.1-2 | all --- Reason --- RoQA; Orphaned, RC buggy -- Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug. The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the master archive (ftp-master.debian.org) and will not propagate to any mirrors (ftp.debian.org included) until the next cron.daily run at the earliest. Packages are usually not removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency problems. The release team can force a removal from testing if it is really needed, please contact them if this should be the case. We try to close Bugs which have been reported against this package automatically. But please check all old bugs, if they where closed correctly or should have been re-assign to another package. Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you have further comments please address them to 626...@bugs.debian.org. If you use gnome pilot to attempt to retrieve the user id from the Palm pilot it will claim to retrieve it but actually set the value to zero. One has to manually edit the .gnome/gnome-pilot.d/gpilotd file can change the pilotid from 0 to the correct value (-1223566800 in my case) for gnome-pilot to be able to properly sync. Other programs like coldsync don't seem to have an problem like this with neg user ids. It also seems that the problem is specific to when the user id is being saved down since once the .gnome/gnome-pilot.d/gpilotd file is edited to have the correct neg value I can open the gnome-pilot control panel and it is displayed properly. After I solved the USB problem (see previous report), then I would get the error: "Unknown pilot - no pilots matches ID" with a large negative number. Some points about this: 1. This error occured whether or not I told it I had synced the pilot before. (In fact, I had, and it did have a user name and ID already.) 2. I tried changing my user ID to something different using install-user, and that did not help. 3. dlpsh showed the user ID correctly, and differently than the gnome-pilot druid. 4. "gnomecc" no longer exists. 5. gnome-control-center forces me into the EXACT SAME druid as I was using, so that bit of advice is no help whatsoever. I finally managed to get it to work by finding a configuration file out on the 'net, adapting it to my situation, and then running the configuration tool. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux heinrich 2.4.21-ac1 #1 Wed Jun 18 08:39:11 CDT 2003 i686 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C Versions of packages gnome-pilot depends on: ii bonobo-activation 1:2.2.2-1 Bonobo Activation Framework ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.12-1 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libatk1.0-0 1.2.4-1The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libaudiofile0 0.2.3-4The Audiofile Library ii libbonobo-activation4 1:2.2.2-1 Bonobo Activation Framework -- run ii libbonobo2-0 2.2.3-1Bonobo CORBA interfaces library ii libbonoboui2-02.2.2-1The Bonobo UI library ii libc6 2.3.1-17 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libesd0 0.2.29-1 Enlightened Sound Daemon - Shared ii libgconf2-4 2.2.1-1GNOME configuration database syste ii libgcrypt11.1.12-3 LGPL Crypto library - runtime libr ii libglade2-0 2.0.1-3Library to load .glade files at ru ii libglib2.0-0 2.2.2-1The GLib library of C routines ii libgnome-pilot2 2.0.9-2Support libraries for gnome-pilot ii libgnome2-0 2.2.2-1The GNOME 2 library - runtime file ii libgnomecanvas2-0 2.2.1-1A powerful object-oriented display ii libgnomeui-0 2.2.1-1The GNOME 2 libraries (User Interf ii libgnomevfs2-02.2.5-2The GNOME virtual file-system libr ii libgnutls50.8.8-1GNU TLS library - runtime library ii libgtk2.0-0 2.2.1-6The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libjpeg62 6b-8 The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii liblinc1 2:1.0.3-1 library to simplify creating netwo ii libncurses5 5.3.20030510-2 Shared libraries for terminal hand ii liborbit2 1:2.6.2-1 Libraries for ORBit2 - a CORBA ORB ii libpanel-applet2-02.2.2.1-1 Library for GNOME 2 Panel applets ii libpango1.0-0 1.2.1-4Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpisock80.11.7-5 Libraries for communicating with a ii libpisync00.11.7-5 Synchronization library for PalmOS ii libpopt0 1.7-2 lib for parsing cmdline parameters ii libreadline4 4.3-5 GNU readline and history libraries ii libtasn1-00.1.2-1Manage ASN.1 structures (runtime) ii libxml2 2.5.7-1GNOME XML library ii xlibs 4.3.0-0ds4 X Window System client libraries ii zlib1g1:1.1.4-13 compression library - runtime -- debconf information: gnome-pilot/bugwarn62: --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Version: 2.32.0-2+rm Dear submitter, as the package hildon-desktop has just been removed from the Debian archive unstable we hereby close the associated bug reports. Use the context menu to select Preferences and click on Display notices. (Again, notices should be capitalized, and the case of the other field should be Execute When Clicked.) Close the dialog. When you hit the HotSync button on the Palm, the outline and grey background of the progress dialog appears, but none of the fields are rendered fully; text certainly doesn't appear. This makes it impossible to a) Use user specific names for USB devices like /dev/foo-pilot and /dev/bar-pilot for the users foo and bar, respectively. In the age of udev, I suggest accepting much different device names. b) As described on http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-pilot-list/2004-June/msg00027.html it seems that for netsync to work, the same problem applies, because for net sync the device name isn't "/dev/something" at all but "net:". Suggested fixes: a) No restriction for devices the user types in. However, keep a number of common options to choose from (like /dev/pilot, net:, /dev/ttyS0, /dev/ttyUSB1, etc.) b) Restrict device name depending on connection type (Serial, USB, IRDA, Network). Please generate a POT file during the package build. This is a template file that is used as a basis for translating this software into other languages. It is important that the POT file is always up to date and exactly matches all the strings (including strings from Debian-specific changes), so it is not enough to just put a static one into the package. Apart from being used manually, this POT file can also be extracted automatically and be used with translation frontends like gtranslator or Rosetta. You can get the patch at http://patches.ubuntu.com/patches/gnome-pilot.potfile.diff Thanks for considering and have a nice day! As it happens, in some languages (Russian in my case) there is several encodings for single language. Most Palm users employ win1251 encoding, while Unix users employ koi8-r. It is possible to keep all information in the Palm in koi8, however, it breaks all interoperability with other Palms, as people won't be able to read your texts and address records, at least not without extra effort. At the same time, if you keep your Palm records in win-1251, then after syncing to your favourite Linux workstation you can't read a thing in GnomeCal or GnomeCard or any other app you might have been wanting to use with that information. The solution is to introduce a toggle in the conduit configuration, like 'Recode' and then a listbox with available recoding tables. I have hacked such a feature into PilotManager a year ago, however, PilotManager authors didn't respond to my patches. Unfortunately, I do not have the skill to introduce such feature into GnomePilot and its conduits, but I think it should be pretty easy to do. Recoding can be achieved by piping to an external program (which then probably should be Suggested: by the package) or internally. If someone will need translation tables, I will be happy to supply those. Implementing this feature will make every Russian Palm and GNOME user happy, and Palm<->GNOME desktop integration much tighter for us. -- System Information Debian Release: woody Kernel Version: Linux tctube.tag-ltd.spb.ru 2.2.17 #1 Sun Jun 25 09:24:41 EST 2000 i586 unknown Versions of the packages gnome-pilot depends on: ii gdk-imlib1 1.9.8.1-helix5 Gdk-Imlib is an imaging library for use with ii libart21.2.4-helix3 The Gnome canvas widget ii libaudiofile0 0.1.9-0.1 The Audiofile Library ii libc6 2.1.3-13 GNU C Library: Shared libraries and Timezone ii libcapplet01.2.1-helix3 Library for Gnome Control Center applets ii libdb2 2.7.7-2The Berkeley database routines (run-time fil ii libesd00.2.19-5 Enlightened Sound Daemon - Shared libraries ii libglade0 0.13-helix1Library to load .glade files at runtime. ii libglade-gnome 0.13-helix1Library to load .glade files at runtime (Gno ii libglib1.2 1.2.8-helix1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgnome32 1.2.4-helix3 The Gnome libraries ii libgnome-pilot 0.1.54-helix1 Library for GNOME pilot ii libgnomesuppor 1.2.4-helix3 The Gnome libraries (Support libraries) ii libgnomeui32 1.2.4-helix3 The Gnome libraries (User Interface) ii libgnorba271.2.4-helix3 Gnome CORBA services ii libgtk1.2 1.2.8-helix2 The GIMP Toolkit set of widgets for X ii liborbit0 0.5.3-helix1 Libraries for ORBit - a CORBA ORB ii libpanel-apple 1.2.1-helix6 Library for Gnome Panel applets ii libpisock3 0.9.3-3Libraries for communicating with a Pilot PDA ii libxml11.8.9-helix1 GNOME XML library ii xlib6g 3.3.6-10 shared libraries required by X clients ii zlib1g 1.1.3-9compression library - runtime libesd-alsa0Not installed or no info --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Version: 2.32.0-2+rm Dear submitter, as the package hildon-desktop has just been removed from the Debian archive unstable we hereby close the associated bug reports. Avi's concern was that in Windows NT/2000, anyone who has correct settings in his Palm (pilot username, etc.), can successfully sync with PC, which keyboard has been locked and depending on sync settings either wipe information from PC or collect information from PC. In my experiment, I waited until screensaver locked the system, put pilot into craddle and pressed HotSync button in cradle. Result was that it synced just beatifully. Unfortunately I didn't have any extra Palms available so that I would have been able to check, how easy/difficult it would be in reality to make other Palm to "fake" its identity in comparison to guessing users password. Anyway, this is gnome-pilot specific problem, because pilotmgr and pilot-link don't provide any tools (that I would be aware of ) for automating sync to happen, when you press HotSync button in cradle. Solution for the problem would be that gpilotd would somehow check from xscreensaver or from someother source, whether or not terminal is locked before it allows sync to happen. -- Juha Ylitalo juha.o.ylit...@nokia.com KOM 5/3 312 http://wwwinhel.ntc.nokia.com/~jylitalo +358 40 562 6152 http://www.iki.fi/~jylitalo "Some tools are used, because its policy, others because they are good." pgpqGFDz9tkVc.pgp Description: PGP signature --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Version: 2.32.0-2+rm Dear submitter, as the package hildon-desktop has just been removed from the Debian archive unstable we hereby close the associated bug reports.
