Hello,

After executing a query the results are shown in the "Data Return" area.
This area doesn't show any column labels. So it is difficult to identify
which data belongs to the specific field.

Cheers,

Package: gnome-pilot

Hi

The new version seems very interesting but not very stable.
Evolution plugins sounds great! But I got a lot of warnings
and errors. And when I tried to remove all the configs and
regenerate it using the applet, gpilotd segfaults
when I'm asked to press the hotsync button to sync in the
old pilot id. And it segfaults again again again. The only
way is to abort the installation to get rid of the segfault
message.

Package: gnome-pilot-conduits
Version: 2.0.10-2
Severity: normal

I just upgraded to the gnome-pilot* 2.0 suite in testing.

Unlike #148381, I can sync my Memos. The backup and time conduits work
as well.

However, the Evolution conduits (todo, address, and calendar) kill
everything in their path.

1. Bring up Palm conduit configuration tool with Applications -> Desktop
   Preferences -> PalmOS Devices.

2. Click on Conduits tab and select, for example, ECalendar or EToDo.

3. Click on Enable button. You'll get an error dialog with the text:

Application "gpilotd-control-applet" (process 17014) has crashed due
to a fatal error. (Segmentation fault)

4. The next time you start the Palm conduit configuration tool, the
conduit is listed with a Sync Action of "Synchronize".

5. If you then hit the HotSync button on your Palm, then you get an
error dialog with the following text:

Application "gpilotd" (process 16791) has crashed due to a fatal
 error. (Segmentation fault)

   Disable these conduits before proceeding.

6. Next, bring up the Palm conduit configuration tool again and enable
Eaddress. You get an error dialog with the text:

 Unable to instantiate EAddress conduit.

However, the Sync Action is still listed as Synchronize. Close the
   error and configuration dialog.

7. Hit the HotSync button on your Palm. You'll get the error dialog:

Application "gpilotd-applet" (process 16786) has crashed due to a
 fatal error. (Segmentation fault)

While I was entering this note, another dialog popped up. The
titlebar had the text "Warning (gpilotd)" and the body of the dialog
had the text `"Loading conduit "H'

I have version 1.0.5-1 of Evolution. Would you expect the version in
unstable (1.4.5-3) to fix this problem?

Hi,

at some point (and after I had to restore my zire21 a few times) files
in the ~/MyPilot/memo_file/Unfiled/ directory started to multiply x2
every time I do a sync: the original memo is backuped to *.2, already
existing backups are equally backuped, and after three syncs I have
every memo 8 times (noticed this when I had thousands of files in that
directory). This is only on my laptop, though, not on the PDA.
The multiplication happens to all memos, regardless whether they
were actually modified or not.

BTW there's fairly little documentation on conduits, but I don't think
this behaviour is configurable...

Hi! I can sync to Evolution anymore after I upgraded to 2.0. I've
disabled Eaddress, Ecalendar, and EtoDo. and it then works. This is
possibly a Evolution bug.

I've looked through Evolution's, gnome-pilot's and gnome-pilot-conduits's bug
list and not found anything yet. Am I the only one having this problem?

BTW I've backed up my pilot with jpilot and jpilot works so it's my
guess that it's not hardware.

I'd be glad to try anything, It's addictive to be able to use this for
work. :)

Package: gnome-pilot-conduits
Version: 2.0.15-0.1
Severity: important

I have just bought a LifeDrive Palm PDA. At home I have a KDE
environment and it synchronizes perfectly the address book. At work I
have a GNOME environment, I use evolution. The synchronization takes
place but there is a problem with the surnames. I Spain we have 2
surnames, when I transfer data from the PDA to the PC it interprets
the first surname as the 2nd name and the 2nd surname as the 1st
surname. So in successive times, when I synchronize the PC and the PDA
the data in the PDA is corrupted since the 1st surname (the most
important one) does not appear, well it appears as part of the name
that is not very useful.

Bug#626614: Removed package(s) from unstable

2011-05-13 Thread Debian FTP Masters
We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following
package(s) have been removed from unstable:

gnome-pilot-conduits | 2.0.17-2 | source, alpha, kfreebsd-amd64, kfreebsd-i386
gnome-pilot-conduits | 2.32.1-2 | source, amd64, armel, hppa, i386, ia64,
mips, mipsel, powerpc, s390, sparc
gnome-pilot-conduits-data | 2.32.1-2 | all

--- Reason ---
RoQA; Orphaned, RC buggy
--

Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag
database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug.
The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite
references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references
it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the
master archive (ftp-master.debian.org) and will not propagate to any
mirrors (ftp.debian.org included) until the next cron.daily run at the
earliest.

Packages are usually not removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks
unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed
from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency
problems. The release team can force a removal from testing if it is
really needed, please contact them if this should be the case.

We try to close Bugs which have been reported against this package
automatically. But please check all old bugs, if they where closed
correctly or should have been re-assign to another package.

Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you
have further comments please address them to 626...@bugs.debian.org.

The full log for this bug can be viewed at http://bugs.debian.org/626614

If the user doesn't have sufficient file permissions for accessing
/dev/pilot (or whatever serial port it links to), the setup druid
should tell the user about the problem and what should be done about
it (ask the administrator to add the user to the correct group
(possibly after first creating the group in question)).

The current behaviour (of just hanging silently) is not very helpful.

Package: gnome-pim
Version: 1.4.3-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I've called gpilot-applet from both the gnome toolbar and from the command
line. In each case, the druid starts up to get my connection information.
When it tries to get my identity from my PIM (a Handspring Visor) I get a
popup box that says that the gpilotd segfaulted. I don't get any more
information than that.

I can sync my PIM via the command line with pilot-xfer. I might be doing
something boneheaded here, but then again, that's why I'm using the druid. :)

Let me know if you need to know anything else.

BTW, the PIM is linked to the PC via a USB cable.

Package: gnome-pilot
Version: 0.1.64-1

On Debian ppc sid, I have discovered that the current gnome-pilot
package seems unable to cope with Palm pilots that have user accounts
that have a neg user id. If you use gnome pilot to attempt to retrieve
the user id from the Palm pilot it will claim to retrieve it but
actually set the value to zero. One has to manually edit the
.gnome/gnome-pilot.d/gpilotd file can change the pilotid from 0 to
the correct value (-1223566800 in my case) for gnome-pilot to be
able to properly sync. Other programs like coldsync don't seem to
have an problem like this with neg user ids. It also seems that the
problem is specific to when the user id is being saved down since
once the .gnome/gnome-pilot.d/gpilotd file is edited to have the
correct neg value I can open the gnome-pilot control panel and it
is displayed properly.

Package: gnome-pilot
Version: 0.1.64-1
Severity: important

Recently, I put my batteries in backwards and accidently wiped the
memory in my Palm IIIxe (oops). When I put it in the cradle and hit
the hotsync button, I'm asked if I'd like to restore. I'd love to
restore :> It then begins uploading things to the Palm. It runs for
several minutes, then gpilotd gets stuck in an infinite loop, using up
all available CPU. The Palm eventually decides its lost contact with
the host. Let me know if there's any further information I can
provide, or if you can suggest a workaround!

I attached to gpilotd with gdb and here's the stack trace:

To reproduce, install a file with an unset or empty DISPLAY variable:

Synchronization is working intermittently for me. More specifically,
synchronization *works* intermittently. Most of the time it hangs.

When gpilotd starts, it displays the following:

When I push the hotsync button on the cradle (serial cradle, Palm M505),
the debug output either:

a) Doesn't show any additional output. Workaround: bring up settings
dialog and dismiss it.

b) Shows the following before hanging:

gpilotd-Message: Woke on Serial
gpilotd-Message: setting PILOTRATE=115200

Workaround: Kill gpilotd, bring up settings dialog and dismiss it.
Typically, after doing this, I can usually hotsync multiple times in a
row.

c) Shows the synchronization. Interestingly, it ends with:

...
Message: time_file: destroying time conduit
memo-file-conduit-Message: destroying memo_file conduit

I would have expected to see the "Watching Serial" message. Upon hitting
the hotsync button the next time, I saw a:

gpilotd-Message: Exiting (caught SIGINT)...

I suspect gpilotd is not closing the device and getting back in a
position to listen. If I kill gpilotd, I can run pilot-xfer all day
long:

[wohler@olgas:506]$ echo $PILOTRATE
115200
[wohler@olgas:507]$ time pilot-xfer -p /dev/ttyS0 -i PluckerDB.pdb
   Port: /dev/ttyS0

Please press the HotSync button now...
Connected...
Installing PluckerDB.pdb... OK
Install done

real0m5.199s
user0m0.000s
sys 0m0.000s

Note that the 12k file is installed faster than my observation of the
time between hitting the hotsync button and seeing the Identifying user
message (if I see it at all).

Interestingly, as I finish this message, synchronization is now 100% and
fast. Perhaps that last killall gpilotd cleared things up. If I discover
what trips things up, I'll append that information to this report.

Package: gnome-pilot
Version: 2.0.9-2
Severity: important

Gnome pilot doesn't communicate with my Palm at all:-

Using an m515 connected with USB, pilot-link and jpilot set up and can
sync with Palm without any trbouls whatsoever. Attempting to retrieve
the ID from the pilot fails, and manually setting the ID followed by
attempting a sync also fails - in all cases the Palm just times out.

Console output from gpilotd:-

gpilotd-Message: gnome-pilot 2.0.9 starting...

gpilotd-Message: compiled with [VFS] [USB] [IrDA] [Network]

gpilotd-Message: assigned handle num 2
gpilotd-Message: corba:

gpilotd-Message: assigned handle num 3

Console output from gpilotd-control-applet

** Message: Cradle Type -> USB

This output was from an attempt to get the ID from the pilot, but I get
a similar lack of action after manually entering the pilot ID and
attempting a sync.

I've no idea why this doesn't work - the low level stuff is all fine, as
evidenced by the fact that I can use Jpilot quite happily, so the
hardware and pilot-link is all obviously working. Gnome pilot however is
totally unresponsive - no error messages, but no activity.

Mike.

Package: gnome-pilot
Version: 2.0.9-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

gnome-pilot is completely unable to configure my Palm for use with Gnome.

After I solved the USB problem (see previous report), then I would get the
error:

"Unknown pilot - no pilots matches ID" with a large negative number.

Some points about this:

1. This error occured whether or not I told it I had synced the pilot
before. (In fact, I had, and it did have a user name and ID already.)

2. I tried changing my user ID to something different using install-user,
and that did not help.

3. dlpsh showed the user ID correctly, and differently than the gnome-pilot
druid.

4. "gnomecc" no longer exists.

5. gnome-control-center forces me into the EXACT SAME druid as I was using,
so that bit of advice is no help whatsoever.

I finally managed to get it to work by finding a configuration file out on
the 'net, adapting it to my situation, and then running the configuration
tool.

Trying to configure a USB pilot, I set up the config screen for
/dev/ttyUSB1, then click next. Syncing fails to work (I see the bug
reported elsewhere). Click cancel. Clicking on the applet from then

Package: gnome-pilot
Version: 2.0.10-1
Severity: normal

On my Palm Vx, I have the user name set to "David Kågedal". When
installing gnome-pilot fresh and running the setup wizard, it fetches
the user name from the palm. But is fails to handle the "å" in the
name, and it displays it as "David K", and the following appears in
the error log:

** (gpilotd-control-applet:8787): WARNING **: Invalid UTF8 string passed to
pango_layout_set_text()
** Message: device Cradle sent userinfo

The last message repeast many times.

It seems that it gets a Latin-1 string and tries to decode it as
UTF-8.

gpilotd segfault when it tries to access USB device ( /dev/ttyUSB0 ).
I've got a palm Tungsten T2. I'm using debian SID on a 2.6.0 kernel.
kpilot works well, jpilot too but gpilot is needed for Ximian Evolution.

Thanks.

Package: gnome-pilot
Version: 2.0.10-3
Severity: normal
File: /usr/bin/gpilot-applet

1. Use the context menu on the gpilot applet to bring up Last log...
(Log should be capitalized, by the way. The Gnome conventions call
for headline capitalization in menu items and dialog labels.) I get
the text Last Sync Log at the top, two blue bars (they look like
Gnome 2 progress bars), and an empty text area widget. Always.

2. Use the context menu to select Preferences and click on Display
notices. (Again, notices should be capitalized, and the case of the
other field should be Execute When Clicked.) Close the dialog. When
you hit the HotSync button on the Palm, the outline and grey
background of the progress dialog appears, but none of the fields are
rendered fully; text certainly doesn't appear.

I wish the dialog would appear at the very beginning of the operation
and show something interesting when the Palm is "Identifying user..."
but this is a minor nit. The dialog doesn't appear until the Palm
   displays "Synchronizing..."

Configure your pilot and put the pilot sync applet on your desktop.

Press the HotSync button.

Move your mouse pointer over the Pilot Sync applet (now green).

Expected behaviour:

The tooltip should say something about that the pilot is synching.

Current behaviour:
--
The tooltip says "Klar att synkronisera" (Swedish for "Ready to
synchronize").

Package: gnome-pilot
Version: 2.0.10-6.1
Severity: normal

When setting up gnome-pilot, the dialog box only accepts something
like /dev/[a-zA-Z]+[0-9]* as device name.

This makes it impossible to

  a) Use user specific names for USB devices like /dev/foo-pilot and
/dev/bar-pilot for the users foo and bar, respectively.
In the age of udev, I suggest accepting much different device
 names.

  b) As described on
 http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-pilot-list/2004-June/msg00027.html
it seems that for netsync to work, the same problem applies,
because for net sync the device name isn't "/dev/something" at
 all but "net:".

Suggested fixes:

  a) No restriction for devices the user types in. However, keep a
number of common options to choose from (like /dev/pilot, net:,
 /dev/ttyS0, /dev/ttyUSB1, etc.)

  b) Restrict device name depending on connection type (Serial, USB,
IRDA, Network). Probably difficult to handle all conceivable
 eventualities.

Hello,
Everytime I try to scan using this device, the process starts then
hangs. It freezes Xsane. I need to unplug the device to get the error

The problem comes from the USB communication with the device.

same results.

Package: gnome-pilot
Version: 2.0.12-1.1
Severity: wishlist

I'd find it very useful if gpilotd was by default less verbose, ie
output only warning/error messages and not comment on every little step
it is taking. This might be good for debugging, but running gpilotd from
a command line I failed to notice for months that somewhere above the
countless "backupconduit-Message: Network_netw_panl_a68k not modified
since last sync" meaning nothing, there was actually an indication that
something did not work as expected and needed attention.

NB: I get a number of "(gpilotd:8544): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **:
g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed" after each run,
but I haven't noticed any malfunction yet...

I'm working with a Palm Zire21 via USB

Package: gnome-pilot
Version: 2.0.12-1.4
Severity: wishlist
File: /usr/share/man/man1/gnome-pilot.1.gz

The (usually non gnome user) reads the man page and tries
$ gnome-pilot
he then reads /usr/share/doc/gnome-pilot/* and tries
$ gpilot-applet
$ man gpilot-applet
$ gpilotd-session-wrapper
$ gpilotd
$ gpilotd-control-applet
OK now he is getting somewhere.
$ gpilotd & gpilotd-control-applet #guess
Still only got as far as when it tells me to push the hotsync button.

Conclusion: all I know is for this type of user
$ pstree
 `-xdm-+-Xorg
   `-xdm---sh-+-icewm
  |-sh---firefox-bin
  |-sh---emacs-+-emacsserver
  `-xcin
i.e., not a daily gnome user as far as I know, there is not enough
information to get started with gnome-pilot. I was hoping just to try
gnome-pilot, not delve head on into gnome.

Package: gnome-pilot
Severity: wishlist

Hi!

Please generate a POT file during the package build. This is a
template file that is used as a basis for translating this software
into other languages. It is important that the POT file is always up
to date and exactly matches all the strings (including strings from
Debian-specific changes), so it is not enough to just put a static one
into the package. Apart from being used manually, this POT file can
also be extracted automatically and be used with translation
frontends like gtranslator or Rosetta.

You can get the patch at

  http://patches.ubuntu.com/patches/gnome-pilot.potfile.diff

Thanks for considering and have a nice day!

Martin

The gome-pilot applet starts synchronizing but generates failed
to load warnings for all the conduits.
I have been using my palm with Lenny, and before that Sarge, without
any
problems. I have tried re-installing gnome-pilot but get the same
warnings.
I have made no changes in the configuration so I can only assume that
one of the recent package updates has caused the problem. I have not
synched in a month or so and do not know which update broke the
conduits
(I use Eaddress, ECalendar, Ememos and EToDo).

Hi,

HAL has been deprecated and declared dead upstream so we want to
get rid of it eventually in Debian [1].

Please stop using HAL. As it seems, the latest git master [2] has
already been ported away from libhal [3] so getting a newer snapshot
into Debian would be all that is needed.

Regards,
Michael

Package: gnome-pilot
Version: 0.1.54-helix1
Severity: wishlist

This wishlist should probably be forwarded to maintainers of all conduits,
I'm just unsure if that could be convenintly made using BTS.

As it happens, in some languages (Russian in my case) there is several
encodings for single language. Most Palm users employ win1251 encoding, while
Unix users employ koi8-r. It is possible to keep all information in the Palm
in koi8, however, it breaks all interoperability with other Palms, as people
won't be able to read your texts and address records, at least not without
extra effort. At the same time, if you keep your Palm records in win-1251,
then after syncing to your favourite Linux workstation you can't read a thing
in GnomeCal or GnomeCard or any other app you might have been wanting to use
with that information. The solution is to introduce a toggle in the conduit
configuration, like 'Recode' and then a listbox with available recoding
tables. I have hacked such a feature into PilotManager a year ago, however,
PilotManager authors didn't respond to my patches. Unfortunately, I do not
have the skill to introduce such feature into GnomePilot and its conduits,
but I think it should be pretty easy to do. Recoding can be achieved by
piping to an external program (which then probably should be Suggested: by
the package) or internally. If someone will need translation tables, I will
be happy to supply those.

Implementing this feature will make every Russian Palm and GNOME user happy,
and Palm<->GNOME desktop integration much tighter for us.

Package: gnome-pilot
Version: 0.1.54-1
Severity: wishlist

After reading Avi Rubin's notes about "Windows NT/2000 palm sync" from
comp.risks digests 21.04 and 21.05, I decided to do same experiment in
Linux machine. Avi's concern was that in Windows NT/2000, anyone
who has correct settings in his Palm (pilot username, etc.), can
successfully sync with PC, which keyboard has been locked and
depending on sync settings either wipe information from PC or collect
information from PC.
In my experiment, I waited until screensaver locked the system, put
pilot into craddle and pressed HotSync button in cradle. Result was
that it synced just beatifully. Unfortunately I didn't have any extra
Palms available so that I would have been able to check, how
easy/difficult it would be in reality to make other Palm to "fake" its
identity in comparison to guessing users password.
Anyway, this is gnome-pilot specific problem, because pilotmgr and
pilot-link don't provide any tools (that I would be aware of ) for
automating sync to happen, when you press HotSync button in
cradle. Solution for the problem would be that gpilotd would somehow
check from xscreensaver or from someother source, whether or not
terminal is locked before it allows sync to happen.

Package: gnome-pilot
Version: 0.1.54-1.1
Severity: normal

After installing gnome-pim-conduits I attempted to hotsync my Palm with
the desktop (having configured the new conduits in the control centre).
This failed, with gpilotd complaining that it knew nothing about the
conduits. Restarting gpilotd corrected this error.

The gnome-pim-conduits package is still in incoming.

If you
