Package: mguesser
Severity: wishlist

I'm unsure if it does any of this already, but mguesser could benefit from
statistical analysis.

http://www.informatics.bangor.ac.uk/~wjt/papers/TMT.ps.gz talks about it
and refers to another paper. I may have the SMI code somewhere too. I
think this is likely an upstream wishlist item. It'd be a nice surprise if
this method were already used by mguesser.

Package: mnogosearch
Version: 3.2.31-1

The language guesser "mguesser" included with mnogosearch doesn't include
rules for the common languages (for example, English) when encoded
as UTF-8 and they are therefore incorrectly detected as az, eo or ru,
the only three languages for which UTF-8 detection rules are provided.
One solution is to copy the existing language detection files, re-encode
the contents using iconv or similar, change the "Charset:" headers to
"utf-8" and add the new entries to the /etc/mnogosearch/langmap.conf file.

Regards,
Andrew

Version: 3.3.7-1

Hi,

after the build of mnogosearch_3.3.7-1 failed due to a system crash, I
tried to finish it off manually by running dpkg-buildpackage -B -nc.

However, it did not get far:

f test -e /usr/share/misc/config.sub ; then \
for i in ./config.sub ; do \
if ! test -e $i.cdbs-orig ; then \
mv $i $i.cdbs-orig ; \
cp --remove-destination

fi ; \
done ; \
fi
mkdir build-pgsql
mkdir: cannot create directory `build-pgsql': File exists
make: *** [debian/stamp-build-pgsql] Error 1

I think the build target should only create the build directory if it
does not exist yet, i.e. with mkdir -p.

Having a configure-stamp would help further to restart the build, but
this is likely rather a CDBS issue I guess.

After running configure again, the build continues where it got
interrupted.

Package: upsd
Version: 1.0-8

This package does not contain powerfail and ups-monitor scripts. ups-monitor
is called from halt (ups-monitor poweroff) and can be only a link to
/etc/init.d/upsd script. (Am I right??)

There is a bug in the script /etc/init.d/upsd in the case your ups cannot be
switched off when power is OK (like my APC Back 650MI, that is not a smart
UPS). In so case system stay halted forever...

/etc/init.d/upsd is designed only for master mode of upsd. I wish to improve
the script to support slave mode too. That is not easy task(?) to design
save and reliable shutdown in master-slave mode...

There is a note to read original readme of upsd but no original readme is
included with the package.

I run Debian Slink...

Thanks,
Petr

Package: upsd
Version: 2.6-4

README.Debian doesn't mention where upsd logs to, pointing the reader to
README.gz which says "Upsd writes it's log messages using the syslog
facility, which usually puts them into /var/log/messages."

Unless I'm misunderstanding and there are different levels of log
messages, each written to different files, on Debian upsd seems to log to
/var/log/syslog. A note in README.Debian saying so would be useful,
something like this:
'When running as a daemon, upsd logs status messages to /var/log/syslog.'

Thanks.

Hello,

There was a problem while autobuilding your package with
DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=nostrip.
Final binaries are still stripped.

If you call dh_strip correctly in debian/rules, this may mean that upstream
is stripping anyway.
You should look for call to strip, ld -s or install -s which may strip binaries.

Package: picp
Version: 0.6.7-3
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

When picp encounters some types of errors, such as finding CTS deasserted
(implying that there is no programmer hooked up to the other end of the serial
line), it reports the error to standard error correctly, but then exits with
a zero status, indicating success. This does not seem correct. A patch is
attached that attempts to correct this problem, though it is a fairly quick
patch and should be reviewed more thoroughly by the maintainer before applying.
This patch also causes picp to exit with a nonzero status when receiving an
interrupt signal, and changes a strange exit(1) line in main() to more closely
conform to the error propagation style of the rest of main.c. Apply with
[patch -p1] in the picp-0.6.7 directory.

This report references the already closed bug #496096, and sending an email to
496...@bugs.debian.org did not work.

CASSBEAM has a broader area of applications than just Astronomy. Although it
was originally designed for applications in radio astronomy (analyzing dish
antennas), it also has very relevant uses in physics and engineering,
especially in the analysis and design of dish antennas for radars and
RF/microwave communication links (I use it for these applications).

In my opinion, although the section has been changed to
"Applications/Science/Astronomy" to fix bug #496096, it can also rightly be
"Applications/Science/Physics" or "Applications/Science/Engineering" too.
Nevertheless, I think "Applications/Science/Physics" is most appropriate, if
only a single field is allowed.

Package: mn-fit
Version: 5.13-7
Severity: grave
Tags: security
User: t...@security.debian.org
Usertags: ldpath

Hello,

During a review of the Debian archive, I've found your package to
contain a script that can be abused by an attacker to execute arbitrary
code.

The vulnerability is introduced by an insecure change to
LD_LIBRARY_PATH, and environment variable used by ld.so(8) to look for
libraries on a directory other than the standard paths.

Vulnerable code follows:

/usr/bin/mn_fit line 146:
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ROOTSYS/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH

When there's an empty item on the colon-separated list of
LD_LIBRARY_PATH, ld.so treats it as '.' (i.e. CWD/$PWD.)
If the given script is executed from a directory where a potential,
local, attacker can write files to, there's a chance to exploit this
bug.

This vulnerability has been assigned the CVE id CVE-2010-3366. Please make sure
you mention it when forwarding this report to upstream and when fixing
this bug (everywhere: upstream and here at Debian.)

Hi,

when receiving a phone call, capisuite sends a .wav file, which
is waste of space/bandwidth and not understood by all clients.
It would be better to send mp3.

I have replaced the part of cs_helpers.py which does the job:

ret =
os.spawnlp(os.P_WAIT,"sox","sox",attachment,"-r","16000","-w",basename+"wav")
if (ret or not os.access(basename+"wav",os.R_OK)):
raise "conv-error","Error while calling sox.
Not installed?"

ret =
os.spawnlp(os.P_WAIT,"lame","lame",basename+"wav",basename+"mp3")
if (ret or not os.access(basename+"mp3",os.R_OK)):
raise "conv-error","Error while calling lame.
Not installed?"

filepart =
email.MIMEAudio.MIMEAudio(open(basename+"mp3").read(),"x-mp3",email.Encoders.encode_base64,name=os.path.basename(basename)+"mp3")

filepart.add_header('Content-Disposition','attachment',filename=os.path.basename(basename)+"mp3")
os.unlink(basename+"wav")
os.unlink(basename+"mp3")

Someone more familiar with python should include a check whether lame is
present.

regards
Hadmut

Package: capisuite
Version: 0.4.5-6
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

I've configured capisuite as answerting machine with an AVM Fritz!PCI Card 2.0
(driver from AVM, build with custom kernel 2.6.21 from debian sources without
paravirt-option).

I don't know when this happen first, but since several months incoming calls
will be recorded into horrbile, non-understandable noise. The *.la-file is
not understandable, so the generated wav-file contains the same noise.

When I play the *.la-file using play, I'll get the following output:

$ play voice-202.la
play raw: 'voice-202.la': sample rate not specified; trying 8kHz
play raw: 'voice-202.la': # channels not specified; trying mono

Input File : 'voice-202.la'
Sample Size: 8-bit (1 byte)
Sample Encoding: A-law
Channels : 1
Sample Rate: 8000

Time: 00:03.84 [00:00.00] of 00:00.00 ( 0.0%) Output Buffer: 184.12K

play sox: 'resample' clipped 17677 samples; decrease volume?
play sox: alsa: output clipped 12758 samples; decrease volume?
Done.

As far as I know, no configuration changes where made.

Thanks in advance!
Greetings, Michael.

Trying to use an AVM B1 with the capiutils-package the start of capisuite
fails, c. f. /var/log/capisuite.error:

Can't start Capi abstraction. The given error message was: CapiError: Error
in CAPI20_ISINSTALLED: CAPI not installed. occured in Capi::getCapiInfo()

Since capiutils (maybe there are other packages, too) installs CAPI the
enforced start of it (or a comparable one) prior to capisuite solves the
problem.

Cheers,
Matthias

Bug#391196: Removed package(s) from unstable

2011-02-19 Thread Debian FTP Masters
We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following
package(s) have been removed from unstable:

  cassbeam | 1.0-8 | source, alpha, amd64, armel, hppa, hurd-i386, i386,
ia64, kfreebsd-amd64, kfreebsd-i386, mips, mipsel, powerpc, s390, sparc

--- Reason ---
RoQA; orphaned, low popcon
--

Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag
database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug.
The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite
references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references
it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the
master archive (ftp-master.debian.org) and will not propagate to any
mirrors (ftp.debian.org included) until the next cron.daily run at the
earliest.

Packages are usually not removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks
unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed
from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency
problems. The release team can force a removal from testing if it is
really needed, please contact them if this should be the case.

We try to close Bugs which have been reported against this package
automatically. But please check all old bugs, if they where closed
correctly or should have been re-assign to another package.

Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you
have further comments please address them to 391...@bugs.debian.org.

The full log for this bug can be viewed at http://bugs.debian.org/391196
