Bug#598301: marked as done (qtparted: CVE-2010-3375: insecure library loading)
Your message dated Tue, 28 Sep 2010 07:32:18 + with message-id and subject line Bug#598301: fixed in qtparted 0.4.5-8 has caused the Debian Bug report #598301, regarding qtparted: CVE-2010-3375: insecure library loading to be marked as done. This means that you claim that the problem has been dealt with. If this is not the case it is now your responsibility to reopen the Bug report if necessary, and/or fix the problem forthwith. Please contact ow...@bugs.debian.org immediately.) -- 598301: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=598301 Debian Bug Tracking System Contact ow...@bugs.debian.org with problems --- Begin Message --- Package: qtparted Version: 0.4.5-7 Severity: grave Tags: security User: t...@security.debian.org Usertags: ldpath Hello, During a review of the Debian archive, I've found your package to contain a script that can be abused by an attacker to execute arbitrary code. The vulnerability is introduced by an insecure change to LD_LIBRARY_PATH, and environment variable used by ld.so(8) to look for libraries on a directory other than the standard paths. Vulnerable code follows: /usr/sbin/run_qtparted line 47: export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="$QTDIR/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH" When there's an empty item on the colon-separated list of LD_LIBRARY_PATH, ld.so treats it as '.' (i.e. CWD/$PWD.) If the given script is executed from a directory where a potential, local, attacker can write files to, there's a chance to exploit this bug. This vulnerability has been assigned the CVE id CVE-2010-3375. Please make sure you mention it when forwarding this report to upstream and when fixing this bug (everywhere: upstream and here at Debian.) Unfortunately they scroll to fast to be read. I took a screenshot with a camera (see http://bokomoko.de/~rd/udev/20100725_003.jpg - needed a few iterations to get the timing right) and this points towards pcsc-omnikey: /etc/udev/rules.d/z98_omnikey.rules The udev maintainer Marco d'Itri confirmed that the warnings are harmless, but supported to open a bug report. After the upgrade I was worried that something is broken, so I think it would be nice to remove them. I discovered at the end that I do not need the package and removed pcsc-omnikey altogether, for me the problem is solved, but other users might run in that issue. Bug#598230: Removed package(s) from unstable
We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following package(s) have been removed from unstable: pcsc-omnikey | 1:3-3 | source, amd64, i386 --- Reason --- RoQA; orphaned, unused -- Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug. The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the master archive (ftp-master.debian.org) and will not propagate to any mirrors (ftp.debian.org included) until the next cron.daily run at the earliest. Packages are usually not removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency problems. The release team can force a removal from testing if it is really needed, please contact them if this should be the case. Bugs which have been reported against this package are not automatically removed from the Bug Tracking System. Please check all open bugs and close them or re-assign them to another package if the removed package was superseded by another one. Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. With AUDIOSERVER set to tcp/soundbox:8000, 'auplay sound.au' plays the sound on soundbox as expected, but 'audiooss play sound.au' and 'env LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/audiooss/libaudiooss.so play sound.au' play the sound locally, as though the audiooss library were not preloaded. [/usr/bin/play from the sox package is a wrapper around sox, which is listed in the README file as working with audiooss.] Some pfutzing with the code and liberal insertion of DPRINTF()'s suggests that the library isn't in fact being preloaded, or at least the open()/read()/write() functions therein are not being used. Debian has both spider and xpat2. xpat2 upstream is a fork of spider after spider upstream stopped (in 1990). Both have similar UI and dependencies (the X Athena toolkit) spider has the higher popcon (150 votes vs 40) spider is smaller (442k vs 1470k) "xpat2 -rules Spider" is equivalent to the spider package. (but choosing Spider via the in-game menu is different - http://bugs.debian.org/526888 ) Spider has two "update your dependencies" bugs, one of which has just been raised to RC, so it seems a good time to ask whether the packages should merge. I suggest keeping a package with the name spider (as that's well-known), but make it a script to run xpat2. Bug#598231: Removed package(s) from unstable
We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following package(s) have been removed from unstable: revtex | 3.1-13 | source, all --- Reason --- RoQA; obsolete, unused -- Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug. Bug#598228: Removed package(s) from unstable
We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following package(s) have been removed from unstable: nosql | 4.0.14-6 | source, alpha, amd64, hppa, hurd-i386, i386, kfreebsd-amd64, kfreebsd-i386, mips, mipsel, powerpc, s390, sparc nosql | 4.0.14-6+b1 | armel, ia64 --- Reason --- RoQA; unused, dead upstream, orphaned -- Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug.
