Bug#596154: Removed package(s) from unstable

2010-09-09 Thread Debian Archive Maintenance
We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following
package(s) have been removed from unstable:

   lsnipes |0.9.4-7 | source, alpha, amd64, armel, hppa, i386, ia64, mips,
mipsel, powerpc, s390, sparc

--- Reason ---
RoQA; orphaned, dead upstream, unused
--

Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag
database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug.
The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite
references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references
it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the
master archive (ftp-master.debian.org) and will not propagate to any
mirrors (ftp.debian.org included) until the next cron.daily run at the
earliest.

Packages are usually not removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks
unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed
from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency
problems. The release team can force a removal from testing if it is
really needed, please contact them if this should be the case.

Bugs which have been reported against this package are not automatically
removed from the Bug Tracking System. Please check all open bugs and
close them or re-assign them to another package if the removed package
was superseded by another one.

Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you
have further comments please address them to 596...@bugs.debian.org.

Package: nstx
Severity: wishlist
Version: 1.1-beta4-1

First off, thanks for packaging (and upstream for writing) nstx.

I'd actually like to suggest that the daemon be modified so that it is
capable of passing through real dns requests unrelated to nstx to a
real live DNS server.

I'm not totally sure how this would work yet, myself, but ideally
you'd have bind or similar running on some port besides 53, and
packets for bind would be sent there instead of being handled by nstx.

[I personally haven't walked through the details of nstx myself, so
it's possible that I've missed some basic fundamental reason why this
is not possible.]

Package: nstx
Version: 1.1-beta5-2
Severity: important

I did a quick grep malloc *.c in the source tree. It looks like each
time malloc() is used the return value is never checked but is often
used directly after that for write operations. This makes nstx very
dangerous, since usually it runs as root without any authentication.

The bug in http://bugs.debian.org/259079 is only one example of the
resulting behaviour.

In the current state, the package documentation should at least contain
a big warning that nstx should be run in a chroot environment with user
privileges. The latter works if the nstxd listens on an unprivileged
port with incoming DNS queries redirected to this port, and with proper
permissions for /dev/net/tun.

transcriber is very useful software, and helps transcription of all
kind of materials a lot. Yet, some people speak faster than I am able to
type, and I have seen proprietary software that can make such
transcriptions much easier by reducing the speed of speech without
changing the pitch of the voice.

I recently noticed that a similar function is included in Audacity (the
free "DJ-mixer"), accessible under Effect->Change tempo, so it's neither
secret nor magic, and I would be very happy if this could also be
included in transcriber :-)

It would rock if nstx provided a way to (re)name the interface. For
instance, on systems with OpenVPN installed, it will otherwise
depend on startup order which daemon gets tun0 and which gets tun1.
It would rock if nstx could just rename the tun* interface it gets
to 'nstxd'.

iproute can do this btw:

ip link set tun0 name nstxd

so this could be realised in the init.d script iff iproute were
installed and nstxd would communicate which interface it actually
got.

A better way would be to pass the desired name to nstxd at startup
and have it pass an ifreq struct with ifr_name set to the TUNSETIFF
ioctl. It should then also report which interface actually got used.

I don't need nstxcd to run all the time. In particular, it doesn't need
to start at boot time. However, I'd like to be able to use the normal
start up mechanism to start it on demand from the command line by, e.g.,
running the following:

  /etc/init.d/nstxcd start

Taking inspiration form openvpn, which allows you to start arbitary
interfaces using the form:

  /etc/init.d/openvpn start vpn-name

I'd propose that /etc/init.d nstxcd take an additional argument, force,
which indicates whether to respect the start_nstxcd variable.

nstxcd fails if an IPv6 address is passed as the local DNS resolver to
use. Under the current setup in Debian, the first nameserver entry in
/etc/resolv.conf is passed to nstxcd, so if an IPv6 resolver is
configured there, it causes nstxcd to fail.

Coin,

The start action has the following options handling code:
if [ -n "$NSTX_IFACE" ]; then
OPTIONS="-i $NSTX_IFACE $NSTX_OPTIONS $NSTX_DOMAIN"
else
OPTIONS="$NSTX_OPTIONS $NSTX_DOMAIN"
fi
but the restart action does not.

I guess the start and stop actions should be handled by functions, so
that restart can call them and ensure there is no inconsistancies.

The consequencies of this problem is nstxd cannot bind the port and
fails. This is quite inconvenient during upgrades.

Hi,

just found this when trying to build nstx on an Ubuntu system: In
nstx_tuntap.c, the return value of write (for the tuntap file descriptor) is
ignored, which means to ignore short writes or an EINTR.

Attached is a patch to fix this, would be excellent if you could include it.

Cheers,
   Stefan.

Hello,

nstx uses base64 encoding, which produces '_' characters, which is not
valid in a domain name. To get more DNS server coverage, I have patched
my version into using base32, here is my (tested) patch, in case it can
be useful more broadly.

My laptop is x86 and my router is Big-endian Mips. nstx doesn't work
very well in that case just because of endianness which flips the fields
of the nstxhdr structure around. The 12bit length field makes it even
more tricky.

In the attached patch, I have just increased the id size to 16 to
make it easier to just revert the fields. I don't know whether nstx
considers cross-version compatibility? In such case my patch won't be
ok, of course, and send/reception bitmagic will be needed instead.

Bug#475727: One way to reproduce this

2010-09-09 Thread Rogério Brito
I think that I found one way to reproduce this in a way that would
serve for debugging purposes:

With a gmail account, if you are trying to upload to the gmail servers
an "e-mail" that is a chat of theirs, then they will refuse the upload
(tested also with mutt and icedove). The most informative message of
the programs is displayed by mutt. Icedove informs that the server
didn't like something, and offlineimap just bombs with a stack trace,
instead of having better error handling.

Regards.

P.S.: Keep me in the CC'ies.

Bug#590537: offlineimap dies under many situations

2010-09-09 Thread Rogério Brito
Hi.

Or should I say "ping"?

Unfortunately, it seems that offlineimap is very sensitive to many
situations and dies quite frequently. I suspect that, aside from the
"die always", it may also be under some deadlock situations (or would
that be the "new" python 2.6 that is in sid)?

Apart from dying frequently, I usually have to interrupt offlineimap
when it gets my CPU usage to 100% and it stops communicating with the
network. I tried to strace it during one of those times when it was
pegging the CPU and I could see many select calls being issued, but no
progress being done.

I can give any further information, if necessary. Just let me know what.

Bug#596291: offlineimap getting stuck when run with multiple threads/connections

2010-09-09 Thread Rogério Brito
Package: offlineimap
Severity: important

As I reported in another bug (about offlineimap dying too easily under
many circumstances), attached is what I see when I strace one of the
running threads of offlineimap when it is run with 10 connections to
initially mirror my gmail account to a local maildir.

I am not trying anymore to push the messages to the gmail server---I am
now trying to pull a fresh copy of them from there.

If there is anything that would be desired and if I can reproduce it,
then, please, let me know.

Bug#596115: Removed package(s) from unstable

2010-09-09 Thread Debian Archive Maintenance
We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following
package(s) have been removed from unstable:

varkon |1.18B-1 | source, alpha, amd64, hppa, hurd-i386, i386, ia64,
kfreebsd-amd64, kfreebsd-i386, mips, mipsel, powerpc, s390, sparc
varkon-programmer-manual |1.18B-1 | all
varkon-user-manual |1.18B-1 | all

--- Reason ---
RoQA; orphaned, outdated, unused
