Bug#468391: openntpd: can conflict with ntpdate
merge 330587 468391 thanks Hi Chris! I'm afraid what you see is not caused by any ntpdate conflict with openntpd, it's related to #330587. Basically, this is because ntpdate and openntpd uses different methods to achieve their goals, none of them collision or changes each other's behaviour. I'm trying to see what the root of the problem is, meanwhile, merged reports. Thanks for reporting it. I've found a bug making this package hard usable without reading man page of openntpd server and its init script. Daemon did not set time when it is started. The reason is, that daemon looks for default config file at /etc/ntpd.conf, but package contains config file /etc/openntpd/ntpd.conf. It is good idea let to server knows it. Solution is very simple: File /etc/defaults/openntpd contains only comment lines, with an example. Please add following line to it and all will be fine. DAEMON_OPTS="-f /etc/openntpd/ntpd.conf -s" Option -s can be subject to discussion, but -f is solution for all Debian-like distribution.
