Package: madman
Version: 0.93.0-5
Severity: wishlist

When you use the "Home" button to jump to (and select) the currently
playing track, any previously selected tracks remain selected.
This is problematic because often you don't realise that they are
still selected because they're not in the visible part of the list,
so when you're dragging the *current* track into a playlist, you
don't realise that other tracks are also being dragged in.

Selecting multiple tracks for drag (or any other operation) should
be a deliberate action, not an accident! So what I'd like is by
default the home button clears any current selection and selects
*only* the currently playing track, and perhaps ctrl-click on the
home button can keep the current behaviour for those who want it,
which would be consistent with normal selection behaviour.

By the way does anyone know what the current development status of
madman is? It would be a pity if it's all ground to a halt as it's
certainly my favourite music manager but could really do with a few niggles
ironed out.

Ben

Severity: normal

Hello!

Sure this is a bug to be forwarded upstream; anyway, here's how it works (not):

On S3 based video cards, you can acheive nicer (= higher pixel clock) text
modes enabling S3_HSText in SVGATextMode; it's well documented in TextConfig(5)
man page (the man page of SVGATextMode's configuration file, search for
S3_HSText), that this option requires that (from the same manpage):

"the font must be stored
in memory in a different format than would normally be
used (i.e. the normal font loading programs won't be able
to do this). The S3 designers provided a special register
for that purpose. This register, when set, will automati
cally change the memory access so that the font can be
loaded in a normal fashion. This allows normal font load
   ers to do the job.

Due to that special register, font loading will only work
when it is executed from within SVGATextMode. This way,
SVGATextMode can set this special register before running
the font loader, and reset it again afterwards."

Shortly, you need to set a register on the video card, mess with fonts and
restore that register.

That said, every program working with text fonts is likely to fail: setfont is
another who fails, but SVGATextMode has a functionality for calling it in the
right moment.

It seems the fonter author has to contact SVGATextMode author for instructions
on how to cope with this, and perhaps SVGATextMode could provide an external
utility to enable other text font utilities to work with this type of cards.

Thanks for the attention, Enrico

When listening to madman for long periods of time, having to click the auto dj
command every so often is annoying. Of course you can click it many times
initially, but then you get repeated selections because it is oblivious to what
it just now added to the queue, and the recently played rules are otherwise
very good. So I thought it ought to be able to add songs to the playlist
whenever it is about to run out, and thus theoretically keep going forever.

Here is a patch which does that all the time, better would be to have a
checkbox just above the rule customisations in prefs, "add 20 more songs when
the last track starts". Probably should be off by default. Or even better,
"always keep at least [ 20] songs ahead of the current one (0 for off)" (number
configurable) so you can bump things up the queue if you want. I'll add such a
thing if I get time, but for now, here is what I'm running, because it works
for me.

For various reasons, I run madman on multiple machines and copy its
database back and forth. Occasionally, I forget to save and exit madman
on one machine. Unfortunately, right now, there appears to be no way to
force a running madman process to save its database without having access
to the window manager in which it's running. (I don't know if the HTTP
server can do this; that's not really the best solution for my situation.)

It would be great if madman could acquire a SIGHUP handler that would save
the database before exiting so that I can log on to the system where I
left madman running and kill -HUP the process safely.

These are *not* included in the resulting .deb, but I find no copyright
on those binaries. I *suspect* they are covered by APSL, which IIRC
isn't DFSG compliant.

Also, in the source distribution, a firmware file is distributed. In
newer upstream releases it is made clear that "Squeezebox firmare may
not be redistributed under any circumstances". However, they still do
distribute the mDNSResponderPosix without any license - only
*Perl* code is GPLd.

A license clarification might be due for the source distribution.

Package: fonter
Version: 1.7-8

fonter operates on the font which is currently loaded (eg. with
setfont). It does not read fonts from a file. If it is invoked with
a filename as an argument, the filename is silently ignored.

This can be confusing when trying to edit the file of the font which
is currently loaded, or a font which looks similar. The man page
doesn't make this clear; it doesn't say that you can edit a font by
invoking fonter with the filename as an argument, but nor does it say
where else fonter would be getting the data from.

I suggest that something along the lines of my first paragraph be
added to the fonter man page to make this somewhat unexpected
  behaviour more obvious.

I have two playlists on my Neuros which I've built up with multiple
"positron addtopl ..." commands. Any attempt to edit one of them with
"positron editpl" results in a crash like the one shown here:

$ positron editpl Chill

raise Error("Invalid record: ID bit not set")
positron.db.util.Error: Invalid record: ID bit not set

These playlists were actually created with the previous positron .deb,
not the current version. I don't know whether that's relevant, but the
crash also occurred on the previous version.

Adding new files to the playlists works fine. I just can't *read* them
to see what's already there.

The non-linear curve fitting tool in grace outputs the wrong value next
to "RMS per cent error:" It actually gives the RMS **relative** error,
i.e. it is out by a factor of exactly 100.

The RMS per cent error should be given as:

e = 100 * (y'-y)^2/y^2

Severity: important

I just tried to sync using positron. It gave the following message:

# positron sync

After modifying /usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/positron/config.py* to
replace "MUSIC" with "music", it now works better -- it now copies some
files.

AFAICT, when positron looks for the music directory, it does a
case-sensitive search. However, the FAT filesystem is case insensitive.
Since my Neuros has the directory /music instead of /MUSIC, positron
does not find the music directory, even though it is there, and when it
attempts to create it, it fails.

However, it still has some problems copying some files, even after the
change. On my Neuros, I have a directory /music/u2, while positron is
trying to create a directory /music/U2, and this is failing... (similar
error message as above.)

I deleted /music/u2, and now it is recopying that whole tree (although
for some reason the directory still gets created as "u2" rather than
"U2". So it seems to be working for now, until the next time I do a
sync, when it will attempt to create the /music/U2 directory again...

(I think that positron used to work correctly.)

Package: fonter

In fonter's 'Char Table' window, characters 00 and 07-0F are
displayed as blank, even though they actually contain symbols. If
the cursor is moved over one of these characters in the 'Char Table'
window, its bitmap is displayed in the 'Editor' window, and it can
be edited, but the 'Char Table' entry remains blank. Until I
discovered this, I had suffered considerable puzzlement as to how an
application could display characters that apparently didn't exist in
  the font.

I suggest that the code for drawing the 'Char Table' window be
modified so that all characters are displayed correctly.

  I am using: Debian 3.0r0

Hi,

currently[1] yafray cannot be compiled on GNU/Hurd, because there is no
platform entry for hurd in the 'ficheros' dictionary in SConstruct.
The attached patches adds the correct entry ('gnu0' is the 'sys.platform' on
