Bug#540060: version script commands not handled correctly in sid/squeeze

2009-08-18 Thread Matthias Klose

severity 540751 normal
tag 540751 + wontfix
thanks

the proposed solution is to avoid the two global wildcard matches.

upstream comment:
The linker script shown has two global wildcard matches. As the ld info doc
says, this is slightly crazy. They both match "test_new", so which one should
ld choose? The most specific match? How do you do that in general? eg. is
"tes*" a better match than "*new" for "test_new"? (If we make a special case
for "*", why stop there?)

From section 3.9, ld info manual:
When the linker finds a symbol defined in a library which is not
specifically bound to a version node, it will effectively bind it to an
unspecified base version of the library. You can bind all otherwise
unspecified symbols to a given version node by using `global: *;'
somewhere in the version script. Note that it's slightly crazy to use
wildcards in a global spec except on the last version node. Global
wildcards elsewhere run the risk of accidentally adding symbols to the
set exported for an old version. That's wrong since older versions
ought to have a fixed set of symbols.

Most of the planets I've looked at have horribly rendered textures,
except for jupiter (which looks nice). I don't know what's wrong,
the textures are all in /usr/lib/ssystem and fine. I am using a
voodoo3. Please take a looksee sometime, this looks like a really
neat program.

Package: jikes
Version: 1:1.21.1-2
Severity: important

The default target for generated class files is JDK 1.4 (class version
48.0) which makes these classes unusable by JDK 1.3. A lot of the Java
packages in main are built using Jikes so if they are now rebuilt with
the latest version, the result will be different.

This has affected tomcat4 because some of its dependencies were rebuilt
with the new Jikes version, see e.g. #263412 and #265253. Please change
Jikes to create classes suitable for JDK 1.3 by default when no JDK 1.4
features (i.e. assertions) are used.

The first error message given above repeats the enclosing class way too many
times(the filename, twice for the full name, and once for the class definition
stanza).

In this case, JDBCDelegate is an interface. This same error message should
also be applied to parent classes.

Also, there are probably several other messages, that are equally unhelpful,
in their output. I just don't have any examples right now.

Package: jikes
Version: 1:1.22-2

Hi,

When doing some build tests on amd64, I had 2 package that failed
because jikes seems to be running forever.

The 2 packages that failed where javacc and
libcommons-collections3-java.

When building javacc the last few lines that get printed are:
[javac]281. for (java.util.Enumeration enum =
rexprlist.elements(); enum.hasMoreElements();) {
[javac]
  ^--^
[javac] *** Lexical Warning: The use of "enum" as an identifier is
deprecated, as it will be a keyword once -source 1.5 is implemented.

A strace of it showed this:

6375 mprotect(0x14c6000, 20480, PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE|PROT_EXEC 6373 <... write resumed> ) = 1

6375 rt_sigprocmask(SIG_BLOCK, [RT_7], [], 8) = 0
6375 rt_sigpending([]) = 0
6375 rt_sigprocmask(SIG_SETMASK, [], NULL, 8) = 0
6375 rt_sigprocmask(SIG_BLOCK, [RT_7], [], 8) = 0
6375 rt_sigpending([]) = 0
6375 rt_sigprocmask(SIG_SETMASK, [], NULL, 8) = 0
6375 _exit(0) = ?

The build of libcommons-collections3-java showed something simular.

I have no clue about what might be wrong. The only hint I
can give is that is seems to be using threads and on amd64
we do not have linuxthreads only nptl.

"ExtensionRegistry.java" looks OK to me - I think the problem is jikes
& the inner classes of this file

I rebuilt jikes using cvs head on 20050423, with the same result

I couldn't find a relevant bug filed against jikes on sourceforge

Here is the complete log of building eclipse -

Many thanks for maintaining jikes!

You filled the bug http://bugs.debian.org/306348 in Debian BTS
against the package jikes. I'm closing it as fixed in *unstable*,
but it will remain open for older distributions.

For more information about this package's removal, read
http://bugs.debian.org/508366. That bug might give the reasons why
this package was removed and suggestions of possible replacements.

Don't hesitate to reply to this mail if you have any question.

Thank you for your contribution to Debian.

Hi,

this package FTBFS because it tries to link using -lhal without
explicitly Build-Depending on libhal-dev. It might have gone unnoticed
if/when others B-D pulled it. It at least occurs on GNU/kFreeBSD those
days.

I'll probably prepare a QA upload to fix this, but opening this bug for
reference.

Hi,

I tried to compile freemind 0.8.0 with kaffe 1.1.6, i.e. with jikes, and the
compilation stops at some point without any error message, so that I'm stuck to
find the reason for the error.

I attach the end of the output to this bug, and you can grab a copy of the
development tree from http://eric.lavar.de/freemind.free3.tgz.

Thanks for your help,

Debian unstable. Recently upgraded dctc and dcgui from 0.85.2 and 0.73.
Suddenly I cannot download. It just says Waiting. Uploads still work.
I verified that this is specific to 0.85.5/0.76 by downgrading to the
old packages. Suddenly I could download.
I'm not sure that this is an upstream (dctc/dcgui developer) problem as
I've seen no reports about it on the official forum

While figuring out what kills the performance of my system under
certain heavy disk loads, I figured out ud does AFAICT entirely
unnecessarily a full filesystem sync() on every filesystem every time
it updates the uptime record, which is once every two minutes.

A fdatasync() at most should be easily enough for the application.

Hi!

I just run ud -d and I got this output:

- Uptime for eagle -
Now : 00:06:18 running Linux 2.2.10
One : 58 day(s), 01:45:01 running Linux 2.0.36, ended Fri Jun 18 11:01:24 1999
Two : 17 day(s), 02:16:27 running Linux 2.0.36, ended Fri Jul 9 11:26:40 1999
Three: 16 day(s), 22:59:08 running Linux 2.0.36, ended Fri Jul 9 08:09:24 1999

The second line is obviously just continuation of the record from the third
line.

This must have hapenned when I have run telinit 1 for maintanance purposes.
After I left the single user mode, ud was started again and considered the
uptime a new record.

I suggest that ud checks for such cases and does updates the original record
instead.

This situation:

which happens when ud is restarted, whether the machine is booted or
not, could be worked around by either

a) introducing a complicated check for whether its possible that two
uptimes are the same (the previous suggestion), or

b) by keeping more than three uptimes in the /etc/uptime.record file
and inviting the user to delete any any spurious records which crop up
(in, say, the BUGS section of the man page).

Glancing at the code, it doesn't seem like the second would be too
terribly difficult. If I knew how to do it, I would ...

Perhaps: "daemon for checking system uptime and keeping records" or

Hi,

ud is outputting a blank file when i have a template file with some php
variables in it. ud works fine if you take out "$" from the php code but
then the php script won't work any more.

It would be nice if one could prefix the "$" in php code like this "\$"
and ud would skip over it.

  * Get upstream to use the fc-* binaries to retrieve the data they
need from fontconfig=20
  * Use the fc-* binaries from your maintainer scripts (preferably
via dpkg triggers) to generate the same data or configuration
that the defoma backend produced=20
  * Drop the defoma backend and leave users to manually configure
fonts for this package

More information about fontconfig and querying it from applications is
available at the upstream homepage:

http://www.fontconfig.org/

Please be sure to change your maintainer scripts so that they remove the
files created by your defoma backend when upgrading to the new version.
You can do this with the following command:

/usr/bin/defoma-app purge

--=20
