Package: rpm
Version: 4.4.1-7
Severity: normal

Looks like current version of rpm doesn't work with kernel 2.4:

| magellan:~# rm -f /var/lib/rpm/*
| magellan:~# LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.21 rpm --initdb
| rpmdb: unable to initialize mutex: Function not implemented
| rpmdb: /var/lib/rpm/__db.001: unable to initialize environment lock: Function
not implemented
| error: db4 error(38) from dbenv->open: Function not implemented
| rpm: To install rpm packages on Debian systems, use alien. See README.Debian.
| error: cannot open Packages index using db3 - Function not implemented (38)

I stumpled across this problem on an up-to-date unstable system with
an official Debian kernel-image of 2.4.27.

The real problem is the error message, which should be more precise.

Regards, Norbert

Hi

as current libc in Debian does not support 2.4 kernel, it does not
make sense to fix anything else for 2.4 support.

Try disabling the net backend in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf or upgrade
libsane to >= 1.0.19-25.

If that doesn't fix it, then it's a quiteinsane bug :)
