Nothing is different (well hardware is), as this is a race-condition
that happens on SMP systems, see:

Not sure how to proceed here... someone NMU ikvm with the named
workaround of #483073?

Hmm, if that bug affects many other packages it would probably better to get a fixed nant in lenny instead. Upstream claims that it is fixed in a newer version, so it would be helpful if someone could try to find out how big the patch is.
