Bad move. Debian uses a separate package for the 3.2 and 3.1 versions due to large performance difference (3.2 does more, but is much more resource hungry). Please reopen and mark wontfix. Bug#334698: closed by Christopher Martin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> (reply to Christopher Martin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>) (Re: Bug#334698: htdig: AMD64 arch corrupts databases)
Hi, Actually, Debian has never had more than one version of htdig in the archive. This was 3.1 until my recent upload, which replaced it with 3.2b6. The 3.1 package was hopelessly uninstallable and RC buggy - the official count didn't take into consideration bugs (like #334698) which weren't listed as RC but should have been. I reasoned that slower software that our users could actually install and would be in our release was better than fast software no one would/could use without massive annoyances and a trip to archive.debian.net. Since 3.2b6 resolves bug #334698, it was entirely appropriate for me to close the report. If you really want to keep using htdig 3.1, then you should: 1) Fix all the RC bugs the package had, not just the libdb2 issue. 2) File an ITP and upload a new htdig3.1 or htdig-legacy package. 3) Be prepared to maintain it without upstream support. Cheers, Christopher Martin On Friday 04 August 2006 04:50, Jeff Breidenbach wrote: > Debian uses a separate package for the 3.2 and 3.1 versions due to > large performance difference (3.2 does more, but is much more > resource hungry).
