Bug#379551: Please drop suggests on obsolete software

2006-07-24 Thread Loïc Minier
Package: sanduhr
Severity: normal

Hi,

sanduhr Suggests: python-orbit, bonobo-python; these are obsolete.
Please consider updating the package for a newer orbit/bonobo version
(at least a GNOME 2 version), or dropping the suggests, or requesting
 removal of this package.

FYI, python-orbit is pending removal (#379436).

   Thanks,

htdig override disparity

2006-07-24 Thread Debian Installer
There are disparities between your recently accepted upload and the
override file for the following file(s):

htdig-doc_3.2.0b6-1_all.deb: package says priority is extra, override says
optional.
htdig_3.2.0b6-1_i386.deb: package says priority is extra, override says
optional.

Either the package or the override file is incorrect. If you think
the override is correct and the package wrong please fix the package
so that this disparity is fixed in the next upload. If you feel the
override is incorrect then please reply to this mail and explain why.

In the script /etc/ppp/ip-up.d/0clampmss iptables uses the default table
instead of the mangle table. Because of this, some sites are still not
reachable.

if one add the options "-t mangle -I FORWARD -p tcp --tcp-flags SYN,RST SYN -j
TCPMSS --clamp-mss-to-pmtu" to the iptables command, the connection works
flawlessly.

I'm using Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 kernel 2.4.27.

#334361 caused pppoeconf to make an invalid /etc/network/interfaces in
certain cases. I submitted two patches, one fixing the bug, and one to
take precautions against similar bugs being reintroduced, or even
already existing. The first patch was the applied, so I suggest applying the
other patch I am attaching, though only after review.

Package: pppoeconf
Version: 0.9.10.6
Severity: wishlist

pppoeconf should probably offer the user the option of "never stop
redialling" on their pppoe link. There is no cost involved and with a
suitable holdoff delay (say, holdoff 120 or holdoff 300) it is not
hammering the ISP's services.

I have an ISP that is currently having twice-daily 2-hour+ outages (!!)
and it would've been really nice to have this dogged persistance mode
preconfigured. It'll probably save on confusion and frustration too, as
I think you'll find most users expect the system to keep trying not
give up if suffering more than, say, 2 min downtime.

Suggested debconf questions:

How many times should we retry if connection fails or the connection is
lost? (default: 10, 0 means retry forever)
[ 10 ]

It is usually a good idea to pause between connection attempts. This
helps avoid overloading your internet providers servers. How long should
we pause between connection attempts? (seconds, default: 300)
[ 300 ]

Package: pppoeconf
Version: 1.0.14
Severity: normal

Please, increase default values of lcp-echo-interval and lcp-echo-failure.

Default values make connections fail and disconnect quite easily, at
least with my DSL provider, which is painful when you have a dynamic IP
being assigned. I am currently using lcp-echo-interval 60 and
lcp-echo-failure 10, but I have not finetuned that.

Also, please document in README.Debian what those "timeout waiting for
PADO socket" can mean, and why your lose your DSL connection, and how
you can fix that. Perhaps that is not the only reason for that to
happen, but can hint a lot of people in the right direction.

BTW, I wasn't suffering such bug when using pppoe package, it only
appeared when I switched to use kernel and pppd plugin.

 Thanks,

P.S. Though this is a "whislist" class bug report, I'm keeping normal
severity because it makes connections fail, which is a real problem.

Your package contains new components which requires manual editing of
the override file. It is ok otherwise, so please be patient. New
packages are usually added to the override file about once a week.

You may have gotten the distribution wrong. You'll get warnings above
if files already exist in other distributions.
