Your package fails to build with GCC 4.2. Version 4.2 has not been
released yet but I'm building with a snapshot in order to find errors
and give people an advance warning. The bug below is in your package
and not because I'm using a snapshot of the compiler so please take a

Looks like `php-config --phpapi' was introduced in php4 4:4.4.0-1,
while the autobuilder used 4:4.3.10-16. I'll make the build-dep
stricter.

Thanks,

Package: pype
Version: 2.2.1-1

Good day,

Recently I recieved an email attempting to report a bug in PyPE version
2.2.2 . He expressed that he was using ubuntu, and I tried to walk him
through getting it working, but to no avail.

He then informs me that debian has its own bug page, and that PyPE is in
unstable because it crashes for people, and it has been doing so since
at least 211 days ago (according to the web site).

Being that I'm the author of the project, it would have been nice to
know that people were having problems with my software, and I'm curious
as to why *no one* contacted me for almost 7 months. Note that both of
my web pages (personal and sf related) are listed within the readme.txt
distributed with every version of PyPE I've ever released, and both of
those pages offer contact information. I don't know if the software you
are using for bug/patch management offers multiple "maintainer" email
addresses, but at least I've never heard from Matthias Klose
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, who is listed as the maintainer for the pype package
(just did a search of my spam folder).

I guess I am curious to know how I can realize I need to fix a problem,
when no one is telling me about it.

Yeah. If it is not already debian package policy, perhaps it would be
nice if there were a method whereby the actual authors of software could
be notified if the package containing their software has issues.

Thank you,
 - Josiah Carlson
   Author of PyPE.

Hi Josiah,

I'm the new maintainer of PyPE and will take care of informing you about
bugs in the upstream source and provide assistance. You can also
subscribe to bug reports and general anouncements through the PTS on
http://packages.qa.debian.org/p/pype.html if you're interested. Please
tell me privately if you do, so that I know you also keep track of Debian
bugs and I don't need to forward them to you.

Cheers,
Franz
