Severity: normal

Resouces for Rxvt stopped being accepted, and only ones for URxvt are
used, despite the man page saying that both should work.

For example the following works:

URxvt*background: black
URxvt*foreground: white

While the following is ignores, but worked correctly in the previous
version and according to the man page should still work:

Rxvt*background: black
Rxvt*foreground: white

Hello,

after upgrading to the latest version, I got the following message while
launching urxvt:
"no default fontset - specify one with -fn"

I had a few ressources about xterm and utf-8 font. Looking into
/etc/X11/app-defaults/URxvt,
I noticed that URxvt.font is commented out. So I suppose the 'default'
behaviour changed somewhere ? Either stopping using xterm ressources, either
in app-defaults/URxvt ?

BTW, I think the right way is to specify the default font in URxvt:
'-misc-fixed-medium-r-semicondensed--13-120-75-75-c-60-iso10646-1',
then override it with the user xressource, if any.

The corners of this page say rxvt, whilst the SYNOPSIS says urxvt,
which by the way isn't in NAME.

I'm not sure what to do though.

Hi,

It would be nice to have a script that runs urxvtd when it's not already

echo "failed to start ($?), trying to start daemon"
 urxvtd &
 sleep 1
 exec urxvtc "$@"

I'm not attached to the name. ;-)

Package: rxvt-unicode
Version: 4.8-1
Severity: important

Hi,

rxvt-unicode has serious problems when running applications that
output bold UTF-8 characters.

If man is run to display manpages with 'strange' characters (e.g.
muttrc(5), which has a bold dollar sign on line 43) then urxvt
segfaults. The same occurs when running any program using dialog, such
as debconf dialogs or orphaner. My guess is that they use bold non
alphanumeric characters. Also, urxvt crashes when one types:
echo -e '\033[1m'
where is any non latin character (e.g. cyrillic small letter a:
U+0430). However the corresponding non bold command does not crash
urxvt:
echo -e ''
nor the following, although it outputs a bold dollar:
echo -e '\033[1m$'

  rxvt-unicode, rxvt-unicode-lite and rxvt-unicode-ml all share this
bug. There is no such problem using xterm or rxvt (but they don't
support UTF-8, so that's not a surprise).

  Have a nice bug hunt,
  Lionel.

rxvt-unicode-lite should provide the x-terminal-emulator name like
rxvt-unicode does. At the moment the lite version is not useable as a
dependency resolution for x-terminal-emulator which is e.g. required by
xfce.

I normally use Xft fonts with urxvt to get antialiasing. Upon upgrade
urxvt refuses to run. If I remove the Xft font settings from my
.Xresourses file then it runs again. However just specifying an Xft font
causes it to fail to start. I have bitstream vera sans mono installed,
and have been using that with previous releases. This is the startup
example given in the man page. It fails as shown:

$ xlsfonts | grep -i vera.sans.mono.medium.*iso10646-1
-bitstream-bitstream vera sans mono-medium-o-normal--0-0-0-0-c-0-iso10646-1
-bitstream-bitstream vera sans mono-medium-o-normal--0-0-0-0-m-0-iso10646-1
-bitstream-bitstream vera sans mono-medium-r-normal--0-0-0-0-c-0-iso10646-1
-bitstream-bitstream vera sans mono-medium-r-normal--0-0-0-0-m-0-iso10646-1
$ urxvt -fn "xft:Bitstream Vera Sans Mono:pixelsize=15"
urxvt: unable to load base fontset, please specify a valid one using
-fn, aborting.

Note that all other default codepages show up for the font as well, just
that I did not want to spam them all here. Running with LANG=C does not
change the symptoms. Other -fn settings work. Including:

$ urxvt -fn "-bitstream-bitstream vera sans
mono-medium-r-normal--0-0-0-0-m-0-iso10646-1"

But no anti-aliasing occurs.

urxvt does seem to be linked to Xft as expected.

I use Eclipse (http://www.eclipse.org) version 3.1M4, which has support
for the usual X way of cutting and pasting. That is, after selecting
text in an Eclipse editor (using click and drag, not double click), this
text is put into XA_PRIMARY, according to the output of

% xclip -o -selection primary

After selecting text in Eclipse, I try to paste the text into a newly
created urxvt terminal, and it fails. Pasting the text works in other
terminals (like xterm, gnome-terminal, konsole).

Manually setting the primary selection using, for example:

% echo -n "hello" | xclip -i -selection primary

and pasting into the terminal works correctly. Previous versions of
Eclipse don't work because those versions didn't set the primary
selection correctly.

Andrew.

Version 7.5-1 doesn't work with xft fonts anymore. It doesn't make any
difference whether they are specified in ~/.Xresources or on the command
line. The error is:

1. Start urxvtd with ``urxvtd -q -o''.

2. Create a terminal with ``urxvtc''.

3. Immediately close the terminal. The shell process is left as a
zombie.

This only happens when you close the last terminal; closing any others
causes urxvtd to reap all of its children.

Package: rxvt-unicode
Version: 7.5-1
Severity: important

I normally use Xft fonts with urxvt to get antialiasing. Upon upgrade
urxvt refuses to run. If I remove the Xft font settings from my
.Xresourses file then it runs again. However just specifying an Xft font
causes it to fail to start. I have bitstream vera sans mono installed,
and have been using that with previous releases. This is the startup
example given in the man page. It fails as shown:

$ xlsfonts | grep -i vera.sans.mono.medium.*iso10646-1
-bitstream-bitstream vera sans mono-medium-o-normal--0-0-0-0-c-0-iso10646-1
-bitstream-bitstream vera sans mono-medium-o-normal--0-0-0-0-m-0-iso10646-1
-bitstream-bitstream vera sans mono-medium-r-normal--0-0-0-0-c-0-iso10646-1
-bitstream-bitstream vera sans mono-medium-r-normal--0-0-0-0-m-0-iso10646-1
$ urxvt -fn "xft:Bitstream Vera Sans Mono:pixelsize=15"
urxvt: unable to load base fontset, please specify a valid one using
-fn, aborting.

Note that all other default codepages show up for the font as well, just
that I did not want to spam them all here. Running with LANG=C does not
change the symptoms. Other -fn settings work. Including:

$ urxvt -fn "-bitstream-bitstream vera sans
mono-medium-r-normal--0-0-0-0-m-0-iso10646-1"

But no anti-aliasing occurs.

urxvt does seem to be linked to Xft as expected.

It's not clear from the bug reports:

but they might be related to this issue instead of a separate

Urxvt does not get system messages (talk requests ;) while xterm does.

Chown + chmod to the same permissions as xterm helps.

Maybe same problem for urxvt. This should work by default I think?

Version 7.5-1 doesn't work with xft fonts anymore. It doesn't make any
difference whether they are specified in ~/.Xresources or on the command
line. The error is:

urxvt-ml: unable to load base fontset, please specify a valid one using

rxvt-unicode package does not install terminfo. The rxvt-unicode
website has a FAQ for this problem
(http://cvs.schmorp.de/browse/*checkout*/rxvt-unicode/doc/rxvt.7.html).

The quick and dirty fix is to set TERM=xterm, but causes some trouble. For
example, when PS1 contains escape sequences, then typing commands with
backslashes can quote them and cause them to print. My PS1 is
'[EMAIL PROTECTED] \W](\j)\$ \[\033[0m\]\[\033[0m\]'. If I
type at the prompt, I get '[EMAIL PROTECTED]
~](0)$' at the next prompt ('0m' should not be there). The prompt is
wrong until I do .

Correct fix is to add terminfo: `infocmp -C rxvt-unicode > /tmp/ti ;
tic /tmp/ti ; rm
ti` or reinstall with `make install` instead of the .deb.
