Bug#314261: Upgrade plan from libgd-gif1 to something else?
Package: libgd-gif Version: 1.3-5 Severity: important libgd-gif1 has been orphaned for ages, but there are still some packages which depend on it, so I cannot remove it right now. Could these packages move to some other libgd* package which we have in the archive? Switching would mean either dropping GIF support (which I believe is not really interesting, as only sane reason to use the fork is GIF support) or rewrite the code to support the newer (and actively maintained upstream!) libgd 2.x series. I considered adopting libgd-gif1 myself, but it makes better sense to kill all 1.x variants and move to 2.x (which has GIF support again now that the compression patent has run out). I suggest next step is to make the package maintainers of the above packages aware of this bugreport, if they are not already... - Jonas - -- * Jonas Smedegaard - idealist og Internet-arkitekt * Tlf.: +45 40843136 Website: http://dr.jones.dk/ - Enden er nær: http://www.shibumi.org/eoti.htm -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.1 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Thunderbird - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFCsC65n7DbMsAkQLgRAqiMAJ4/tVoFSLVJxBs/wdx/oix6f9ufrACggZ74 AC3dY3dM9TJ1g60hDzscigc= =uEc/ -END PGP SIGNATURE-
question about unmaintained packages
Hello all, I'm new to this list so please bear with me, as I suppose this question has already been asked (possibly many times) : what happens when a package maintainer does not seem to maintain his/her packages anymore ? Do the packages remain in a possibly broken state for an undefined amount of time ? Are they re-assigned to another DD ? Is there any automated process that checks how long a bug has been open in the BTS ? I've come across bugs that are almost four years old .. I have lately submitted a bug report, sent an e-mail to the package maintainer, and am ready to submit a patch for the bug I've spotted, but there has been no acknowledgment so far from the maintainer, so I'm at a loss what to do next .. can anybody shed some light on this ? thanks, David. signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Sincerely, Brian Moore -- European legislators Jose Ignacio Salafranca and Carlos Carnero, both members of a European mission to monitor Lebanon's elections, strongly condemned Kassir's killing, calling it an attack against the freedom of speech of the Lebanese people. "You just witnessed the worst seven minutes of this boy's life," said Zonen. Zonen also pointed to testimony about Jackson's relationship with another boy in the early 1990s, which allegedly included spending nearly every night for a year with the entertainer. Kassir's wife, Giselle Khoury, and daughters Layan and Maysa wept in front of his coffin during the funeral Mass. If no DD has done so far, none of them cares enough to spend the time on it, or either are simply not aware. Ask on debian-qa or to [EMAIL PROTECTED] about this specific package and/or maintainer, the situation will be investigated, and action undertaken (usually, the maintainer is asked for comments, and one acts on the reaction or either ultimately puts up the package for adoption by anyone interested. So, in general, mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] privately when you're concerned a certain package is unmaintained, or better if possible, offer your assistance to the maintainer and see if that works. Filing patches is always a good way to do so. --Jeroen -- Jeroen van Wolffelaar [EMAIL PROTECTED] (also for Jabber & MSN; ICQ: 33944357) http://Jeroen.A-Eskwadraat.nl
