Bug#310766: No COM port support in dosemu-1.2.1 with linux kernel 2.6.x. No further debian package available.

2005-05-25 Thread Claudia Neumann
Package: dosemu
Version: 1.3.1.1
Severity: important

No COM port support in latest version package dosemu-1.2.1 with linux
kernel 2.6.x. Problem solved with dosemu version 1.3.2 available from
www.dosemu.org. No such package available for Debian. Other bugs: newer
versions of dosemu install virtuel C:\> directory in the home directory
of the user, not in /var/lib/dosemu. So dosemu doesn't need to run suid
root any more. Dosemu-freedos package and Xfonts-dosemu package should be
included in dosemu package to ease installation for beginners.

NAME
ppthtml - A program for converting Microsoft Power Point Files .ppt

SYNOPSIS
   ppthtml Filename

DESCRIPTION
This manual page explains the ppthtml program. The program ppthtml is
used to convert Microsoft Power Point files into either html or tab
   delimitted ASCII.

OK, so how does one cause the either/or? The man page doesn't
 say.

In readme:
IV. COMMANDLINE OPTIONS
ppthtml now has several command line options that let you tailor its output. The
command is now: ppthtml [] file.ppt

 odd?!

$ ppthtml --help
pptHtml: cole - Cannot open the file

P.S. how about chinese documents. where are instructions for them, if needed?

--help shows much more than manpage

why does -csv not do as expected?
-asc doesn't give ascii...

"Warning: working buffer overflow!" seen with
http://hast.sinica.edu.tw/CO-2002-01-14.xls
"The Maximum Number of Strings was exceeded, you might want to
increase it."
wish the man page would say how.
i hope they dont expect debian users to recompile.

The man page makes one think -csv can be used alone.
The help goes into more detail.

Anyway, that
$ xlhtml -csv file.xls
just goes ahead and spits out html, is bad.

Same with -asc.

BTW, -tc doesn't seem to trim trailing rows at the end of a page that
only have   in all their fields.

BTW, I did -xp1-4 which isn't allowed, but it just prints page 1
without warning.

Bug#310766: No COM port support in dosemu-1.2.1 with linux kernel 2.6.x. No further debian package available.

FWIW, I have a package in mentors, but nobody has offered to upload it
to the archive.

> Other bugs: newer versions of dosemu install virtuel C:\> directory in
> the home directory of the user, not in /var/lib/dosemu.

Uh, that is wrong. By default /var/lib/dosemu is used to locate
hdimages for readonly virtual C:, and the user's home directory becomes
virtual D:. We don't want to be changing the default upstream
configuration.

> So dosemu doesn't need to run suid root any more.

It never did need to, but it's nice if it does because more features are
accessible. It drops root privileges as soon as possible if running
setuid, so the security risk is minimized.

> Dosemu-freedos package and Xfonts-dosemu package should be

A Recommends: is in order, but it makes little sense to integrate these
packages. DOSEMU can be used with or without FreeDOS (example: MS-DOS,
DR-DOS, any other 8086 or DPMI OS). The X font is only required if
running in X11 mode and no other VGA font is installed (some users
prefer the Bochs VGA font, for example).

DOSEMU with FreeDOS in X11 is a common use case but it is not exclusive
by far.
