Bug#245647: Any chance to get the improved man page included?

2005-02-12 Thread Helge Kreutzmann
Hello,
any chance that this bug receives a new upload to fix it? (Given that
it is a trivial man page extension).

Thanks

I've updated xfce4-diskperf-plugin to the latest upstream version,
changelog looks like this:

 xfce4-diskperf-plugin (1.5-1) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * QA Upload
   * New upstream version (Closes: #254400)
   * Lower first capital letter in short package description.
   * Remove `Uploaders:' field in debian/control since package is orphaned.
   * Update libtool to latest version (Closes: #239469)

however, i dont have access to a arm machine, so wasnt able to test if
#239469 is still present with this revision. Signed package source is up
on mentors.debian.net, sponsor needed.

cheers,

Bug#244276: Bug#294459: HTML manual generated by a broken tex4ht install

tex4ht is indeed orphaned; I've added the corresponding WNPP O:
bug #268126 to the CC list. If you consider an NMU, or if you
could adopt it, you'll be blessed by many.

The latest upstream fixes a ton of other bugs,
see http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?pkg=tex4ht

The upstream was asked by Debian to provide literate sources
(see #244276 tex4ht: source code is obfuscated), and the thing
was marked as a serious policy violation. The upstream
took a considerable effort to do so and provide them at his site, and
his efforts were never acknowledged -- instead the package got
orphaned :( just another b/g info on why it's probably high time
to do an NMU.

8-bit text/plain e-mail are common in ex-USSR countries. Metamail itself
works with 8-bit transfer-encoding just fine, but metasend script treats
-e "8bit" like -e "quoted-printable". Attached patch should fix this
problem.

I recently tried to decode a mail generated by splitmail. Neither
apropos nor the two above man pages helped me; by chance I discovered
munpack, which works just fine.

I edited the two man pages. Besides adding/improving the SEE ALSO
section(s) I made a small stylistic correction also.

Things to be considered:
*)Move SEE ALSO in splitmail to the end of the file (this is IMHO
common usage; I first missed it when preparing my patch)
*)The sentence "This manual page was written for the Debian GNU/Linux
distribution (but may be used by others), because the original program=20
does not have a manual page." should be moved into the AUTHOR
section, as it contains meta information about the manual page and
is irrelevant for the interface of the programm.
*)splitmail talks about passing options to sendmail. IMHO this should
be generalized to MTA, e.g. "the verbose flag will be passed to your
  MTA, e.g. \fBexim\fR(8) or \fBsendmail\fR(8).

Package: metamail
Version: 2.7-45

metamail has left a debug message that says "pre access" in the
production version of the code that gets shipped in the Debian
package. You can provoke it by running metamail on a message
with an unknown MIME type. You should get something like this:

What do you want to do with the raw data?
1 -- See it as text
2 -- Write it to a file
3 -- Just skip it

2
Please enter the name of a file to which the data should be written
(Default: Cachebench.results.xls) >
tried to remove non tmplist file Cachebench.results.xls
pre accessWrote file Cachebench.results.xls

^^ trace message here.

(I'm assuming the 'tried to remove non tmplist file' message
is an artifact of the way I'm invoking metamail -- it doesn't
happen when my MTA (nmh) calls metamail, but the 'pre access'
trace does.)

Here is a totally untested patch to make this message only
be printed if in debugging mode:

Some mail clients like to send attachments with content type
application/octet-stream, even if they obviously (e.g. from the
filename suffix) have a more specific type. In that case, metamail
asks the user whether it should display the attachment as text, save
it, or skip it. The following small patch adds as another option the
possibility to explicity give an other content type and process the
attachment accordingly.

Regards,
Daniel

ah, okey. I didn't expect someone working on these packages since the
Bugreports seemed rather untouched, however, nice to hear :-)
