Panel applets in separate processes appear to function just fine but the panel itself does not redraw or otherwise respond to interaction. When this happens the process is reported as using 100% of the CPU. Attaching strace to the process shows no activity for an extended period of time. I believe the change was introduced with the 2.4 upgrade though I'm not 100% certain on that. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable Architecture: powerpc Kernel: Linux raphaela 2.4.21-powerpc #1 mar jui 8 19:36:37 CEST 2003 ppc Locale: LANG=en_GB, LC_CTYPE=en_GB (ignored: LC_ALL set to en_GB) Versions of packages gnome-panel depends on: ii gnome-control-center1:2.4.0-4The GNOME Control Center for GNOME ii gnome-desktop-data 2.4.1-3 Common files for GNOME 2 desktop a ii gnome-panel-data2.4.1-4 Common files for GNOME 2 panel ii gnome-session 2.4.1-2 The GNOME 2 Session Manager ii libart-2.0-22.3.16-1 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libatk1.0-0 1.4.1-1 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libaudiofile0 0.2.3-4 The Audiofile Library ii libbonobo2-02.4.1-3 Bonobo CORBA interfaces library ii libbonoboui2-0 2.4.0-4 The Bonobo UI library ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-10 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libesd0 0.2.29-1 Enlightened Sound Daemon - Shared ii libgconf2-4 2.4.0.1-2GNOME configuration database syste ii libgcrypt1 1.1.12-4 LGPL Crypto library - runtime libr ii libglade2-0 2.0.1-6 Library to load .glade files at ru ii libglib2.0-02.2.3-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgnome-desktop-2 2.4.1-3 Utility library for loading .deskt ii libgnome2-0 2.4.0-4 The GNOME 2 library - runtime file ii libgnomecanvas2-0 2.4.0-1 A powerful object-oriented display ii libgnomeui-02.4.0.1-5The GNOME 2 libraries (User Interf ii libgnomevfs2-0 2.4.1-4 The GNOME virtual file-system libr ii libgnomevfs2-common 2.4.1-4 The GNOME virtual file-system libr ii libgnutls7 0.8.12-2 GNU TLS library - runtime library ii libgtk2.0-0 2.2.4-2 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii liborbit2 1:2.8.2-1Libraries for ORBit2 - a CORBA ORB ii libpanel-applet2-0 2.4.1-4 Library for GNOME 2

Bug#241620: preferences: Package name is WAY too generic
Package: preferences Severity: normal As per recent discusions on debian-devel, the package name "preferences" is too generic and abuse of the shared resource, package namespace. At a minimum I'd like you to prefix the package name with gnustep- or something. Moreover it is a bad idea to install a binary named /usr/bin/preferences. If possible patch your package to install it as /usr/bin/gnustep-preferences, and consider using /etc/alternatives to create the preferences alias, if you must. The later may be controversial: the former should not be. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.4-ck1 Locale: LANG=en_US, LC_CTYPE=en_US
