In addition to the item highlighted below, I also can't import

My message doesn't seem to have actually hit any mailing list, so I'm hoping

Subject: Drupal can't import Kuro5hin

Hi,

I'm running Drupal 4.0 on my site at http://changelog.complete.org. I have
successfully set up several news feed imports, but can't get Kuro5hin to
work. That particular feed is http://www.kuro5hin.org/backend.rdf.

I can add it to Drupal, click on update, and it will behave as if it's
updated with respect to times, but still say 0 items.

Any ideas?

Would it be possilbe to make your durpal package as database-independent
as drupal itself? Those of us already running real databases would
prefer not to have to install mysql but would love to be able to use
your drupal package.

In particular, if you will tell me what you need in order for your
package to support running drupal on postgresql, I'll be happy to help
you with it as much as I can.

Version: 4.1.0-9
Severity: important

When I install drupal 4.1 it fails to upgrade my database. I did have problems
where when it tried to configure it it failed because it couldn't connect to
the database. This was because it kept overwriting the password i had in the
/etc/drupal/conf.php file with a default password. I managed to upgrade the
database by copying the update.php file in
/usr/share/doc/drupal/upgrades/update.php to /usr/share/drupal/update.php and
then logging in as the user with uid 1 and adding update.php the url and going
through it as a normal drupal package. Not sure if that was the way it was
supposed to work.

Package: drupal
Version: 4.1.0-9
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

If you install drupal without an supported DBMS, you will have to
interrupt package configuration (theres no option to postpone db config
within the configure scripts of drupal). This leaves apt-get in a state
where it refuses to do anything before finishing the configuration so
it's impossible to apt-get an DBMS which will allow you to complete the
configuration...

Luckily using dpkg to remove drupal (dpkg -r drupal) works as expected
so your system isn't completly fucked up, but nonetheless I could have
done without this shock in the morning *g*

Regards,
  Sebastian

Package: drupal
Version: 4.1.0-9.1
Severity: minor

In /usr/share/drupal/modules/ping.module, the first
line of function ping_ping is:

$feed = $url . drupal_url(array("mod" => "node", "op" => "feed"), "module");

This causes de $feed url to be formed somthing like:

http://chema.homelinux.org/weblog/module.php?mod=node&op=feed
 ^
 WRONG

When pinged sites try to retrieve that feed, they'll get the main
page instead. I had to rewrite that to get rid of the "amp;" part.

I don't know if this bug has been corrected in Drupal 4.2.0, I'll
try to give it a look tomorrow.

The drupal website states in its requirements section: "A Web Server
that can execute PHP scripts Recommended: Apache. Development with version
1.3.x. Successfully tested with version 2.0.x. Optional: IIS. Drupal is
being developed with IIS compatibiliy in mind, and IIS is reported to be
working."

At the very least, the dependencies should allow apache2. Based on the
comments, however, many other web servers would probably be acceptable
as well.

Please find attached the french debconf templates translation, proofread by the
debian-l10n-french mailing list contributors.

This file should be put as debian/po/fr.po in your package build tree
after applying the "please switch to gettext templates" patch I sent
some time ago.

This patch assumes that you applied the previous patch without
modifications, particularly to the templates file. If you did not do so,
especially if my former patch suggested modifications to the *original*
templates files (fixed spelling, minor changes for respecting some
conventions, etc.) please notify me and send me the new templates.pot file
so that I may adapt my fr.po file.

(this text is generic for "po-debconf switch" bug reports. If something is
specific to your package, look at the end of this BR)

Using the "new" gettext format for debconf templates helps for templates
translations. For instance, detecting outdated or untranslated strings
becomes considerably easier. It also keeps track of who did which translation.

The attached patch does the required modifications :
- debian/control modification for dependencies (see below)
- execute "debconf-gettextize debian/*templates*"
- removed files left by debconf-gettextize (*.templates.old which are the
old-style templates and *.templates.xx which are the former translated
  templates
- french translation proofreading (the file is debian/po/fr.po) if a french
translation (partial or not) already existed for the templates

Then diff file creation

I, in the same time, started to work on a french translation if none
was there. In such case, the fr.po file will be sent to you through
another BR.

If you want to reproduce this by yourself instead of applying the
patch, you have to do:

-install po-debconf on your system
-go to the debian directory
-read man po-debconf..:-)
-run "debconf-gettextize *.templates"
-read the output
-change Build-Depends or Build-Depends-Indep (see below)

Then you will pick up the fr.po file from my own patch (I often make small
corrections to existing french translations to make them conformant to
the existing standards of the Debian french l10n team).

Build Dependencies of the package have to become the following :

Build-Depends(-Indep) should list "debhelper (>= 4.1.16)" (debhelper
depends upon po-debconf) if you use debhelper, or "po-debconf"
directly if you don't (but, then, please look at po-debconf man page)

For more details, see po-debconf documentation, especially "man 7 po-debconf"

Read this if you're concerned with backports :

Please note that the suggested modifications will make your
package a little bit harder to backport to earlier Debian releases. If
this is a concern to you, you may try to adopt the method used by the
openssh package and detailed by Colin Watson in
http://lists.debian.org/debian-i18n/2003/debian-i18n-200307/msg00026.html";.

This patch does not includes this method as this would make it too
invasive, IMHO. So, preserving backportability is up to you...

Additional notes, specific to this package :

I've changed some trivial english errors in original templates and removed
all question marks in short descriptions for templates (look
