Bug#226895: dict-freedict-eng-rus: unreadable

2004-01-14 Thread Dmitry Rutsky
> It should be UTF-8 Unicode.
>
> Could you try with that setting ?

This works, thank you. Maybe it's worth to put a note in README.Debian or
something that unlike mueller7, which works fine with dict client in usual
ru_RU.KOI8-R environment (i.e. appears readable), freedict-eng-rus uses
Unicode and users with unreadable output from dict should try using `dictl'
wrapper instead and consult general dictd documentation, to avoid confusion
caused by lack of information in this dictionary documentation?

Bug#153793: STOCK MARKET ALERT: QENC 2003 Third Quarter Net Income Rose 76.8%

2004-01-14 Thread Janna Floyd
OTC FIRST ALERT - New Public Company of the Month

Symbol: QENC
Market: PK
Sector: Queench, Inc.

BREAKING NEWS: Jan 8, 2004 -- Queench, Inc.(OTC: QENC)is now a full-time
supplier of bottled water to the military.
JERICHO, NY - Queench, Inc.(OTC: QENC) today announced that it has completed
inspection and approval of its water bottling plants by the U.S. Army
Veterinary Command (VETCOM).

BREAKING NEWS: Nov. 13, 2003 -- Queench, Inc.(OTC: QENC) 2003 Third
Quarter Net Income Rose 76.8%. The Third Quarter Net Income ending 9/30/03
increased 76.8% from the Q2, and a 987% increase year-to-year. Net income
for the 9 months ending 9/30/03 resulted in a 1274% year-to-year increase.

Jim Furey of Lehman Brothers says, "You want to own small stocks versus
large stocks when economic growth is accelerating, which is exactly the
period we're in now."

QENC is a small company perfectly poised to harness the $7.6 billion bottle
water segment with a high quality premium brand priced competitively.

The bottled water segment is the fastest growing of the beverage market. Of
the $100 billion beverage industry, bottled water is nearly $7.6 billion
annually, and forecasted to grow over 50% over the next 5 years.

QENC has the best of both worlds, where unlike Aquafina and Dasani, QENC is
high-end natural spring water, and unlike Evian, QENC is competitively
priced. QENC's target consumer is health and beauty conscious including Gen
Y, Gen X, and Baby Boomers who live a metropolitan lifestyle.

QENC offers two fantastic product lines: Queench Natural Spring Water and
the Queench Flavored Water Beverages, which are vitamin-enhanced and come in
five cool new flavors: Coconut, O' Ginger, Red Raspberry, Pineapple and
LeMon.

DISTRIBUTION AND MARKETING

QENC bottled water is nationally distributed through SYSCO FOODS. SYSCO
Foods is the largest food distributor operating 145 locations and has sales
and service relationships with 420,000 customers including restaurants,
healthcare and educational facilities, lodging establishments, and more.
This relationship provides key access to new markets with low capital
requirements.

Naomi Campbell's NC CONNECT integrated marketing agency, has signed to help
QENC reach national and global consumers by providing marketing and
advertising that will position QENC as a major lifestyle brand in the
bottled water market.

01/08/04: QENC completed inspection and approval of its plants by the US
Army Veterinary Command (VETCOM). QENC's been supplying the military
contract in the South and Florida and the Army has been increasing orders on
a monthly basis, which will result in higher Q1 2004 revenue.

12/03/03: QENC's strategically placing new eye-catching vending machines in
locations on college campuses, retail, entertainment and sports venues and
convenience stores. 500 vending machines installed in initial rollout in
2003 with approx. 2,500 vending machines to be installed in a 3-year period.
The beverage-vending channel is typically highly profitable.

FINAL CONSIDERATIONS

12/03/03: QENC is currently shipping over 54,000 cases of bottled water
quarterly, with a year-to-date quarterly revenue growth rate of 19.7%

QENC's NET INCOME for the Q3 ending 9/30/03 increased 76.8% from the Q2, and
a 987% increase year-to-year. Net income for the 9 months ending 9/30/03
resulted in a 1274% year-to-year increase.

QENC's SALES for the Q2 of 2002 increased 77% to $848,269 year-to-year, from
$478,052, as a result of rolling out new product lines and implementing a
channel development strategy.

QENC's high quality premium water is priced very competitive, they have an
excellent distribution channel with SYSCO and strategically placed vending
machines, and a marketing campaign designed to focus on their target market.
For a young company QENC has made substantial accomplishments and is poised
to harness their segment of the $7.6 billion bottle water industry.

Package: cvs-conf
Severity: normal
Version: 0.0.1-3

I started the install process but when it asked for
the password decided to not give it one. I then
took the option to not install.

Thereafter, when dselect hits that package, I have
to ^C to kill the install script so that dselect
can continue.

I solved the problem by purging and then attempting
to re-install (after creating a cvs account with a
less important password), but I ran into the other
bug report about :ext: and gave up as my cvs servers
are accessible only via ssh and do not run pserver.

Hi,

Here's (attached) a patch which changes cvs-conf packaging to use the
newer gettext-based debconf template translation system : po-debconf.

Also included is a complete Brazilian Portuguese (pt_BR) debconf
template translation.

Please add it to the next cvs-conf package revision.

Regards,

I am using watchdog on my machines, besides writing to softdog device it
monitors
/var/log/messages file. apt-get install metalog causes machines setup this way
to start deadly
reboot-syslog failure-reboot loop ( something not very nice in case of remote
machines ).
So, while this problem is caused by watchdog and it's configuration, it would
be nice if metalog
would install with setup compatible with sysklogd.

Please find attached the french debconf templates translation, proofread by the
debian-l10n-french mailing list contributors.

This file should be put as debian/po/fr.po in your package build tree
after applying the "please switch to gettext templates" patch I sent
some time ago.

This patch assumes that you applied the previous patch without
modifications, particularly to the templates file. If you did not do so,
especially if my former patch suggested modifications to the *original*
templates files (fixed spelling, minor changes for respecting some
conventions, etc.) please notify me and send me the new templates.pot file
so that I may adapt my fr.po file.

Hello,

Just wondering since the author compared the program to syslog-ng: is it
planned to have cryptographically [hash] protected logs from illegal
modification? Since logrotation is done by the program itself it's maybe
even easier than for the other daemons. And so far nobody got it right,
afaik.

Version: 1.1-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

While compiling this package on alpha, I noted some assignement
problems (64 bit issues). To track them down I added -Wall and fixed
all errors reported/I understood.

The patch does the following
a) enable -Wall (I think it's usefull, but you can of course leave it as is)
b) Consequently enable debug - it makes no sense to honor -g but to
   always strip the binary
c) ligen.h is also needed on linux
d) file_size must return long
e) fgetpos has some int/long issues which I couldn't track down; this
is fixed by using ftell; but please double check it
f) Some printf's had wrong formating identifiers; fixed.

I still get lots of
jpegoptim.c:228: warning: variable `total_save' might be clobbered by
`longjmp' or `vfork'

but I've no idea what they want to tell me.

Maybe I'm the only lazy bastard out there but would be nice to be able to

maxtime  = 1d (or 3600m, or 1w for 7days)

instead of the raw numbers.

Severity: normal

As far as I understand it metalo is a replacement for as well syslogd as klogd.
The README also strongly recommends to disable both services before starting
metalog. I think the metalo package should have a dependency against klogd in
order to replace that daemon, too.

The "minimum" option is very poorly named.

The author must have intended for "minimum" to refer to the level of
importance of the message: A value of X means that messages with
an importance level less than X are discarded. So far, so good.

Unfortunately, increasing levels of importance are represented by
decreasing integers. The result is extremely confusing: the
assignment "minimum = X" means that values *greater than* X are
discarded.

To fix the problem, either the variable name must change or the values
representing importance must be changed so that they increase with
increasing performance.

For instance, the variable name could be changed to "maximum", since
it is much more intuitive to apply the concept of magnitude to the
variable values than to the meanings of the variables. And in in this
case, it is just as natural to apply "maximum" to the quantity of
messages (i.e., critical message only is a minimal quantity of
messages) as it is to the importance of the messages.

Alternatively, invert the meanings of the variable values 0-7 so that
7 is the most important; or use English words, e.g., minimum = warning
means that only warnings and more important messages are printed.

Configuring Cvs-conf

Do you want to create a configuration module in the CVS repository? no

Create a configuration module for what purpose, rooted where, in what
CVS repository? (This machine is not even a cvs server..). This debconf
question desperatly needs some supporting documentation in the extended
description.

Package: metalog
Version: 0.7beta-3
Severity: normal

Sorry if i report 2 bugs in 1 message, but they seem to me someway
correlate.

First of all, the package seems not to use invoke-rc.d:

$ grep -n /etc/init.d/ /var/lib/dpkg/info/metalog.p*
/var/lib/dpkg/info/metalog.postinst:7: /etc/init.d/metalog start >&2
/var/lib/dpkg/info/metalog.postinst:11: /etc/init.d/metalog restart >&2
/var/lib/dpkg/info/metalog.prerm:6: /etc/init.d/metalog stop

It's not a serious policy violation as it's not a "must" or a "should",
but use of invoke-rc.d is "strongly recommended" (debian policy 3.6.10,
par. 9.3.3.2).

Second and more "serious" bug:

$ grep -n update-rc.d /var/lib/dpkg/info/metalog.postinst
6: update-rc.d metalog start 10 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 . stop 90 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 .
>/dev/null 2>&1

$ ls /etc/rc?.d/*metalog
/etc/rc0.d/K90metalog /etc/rc2.d/S10metalog /etc/rc5.d/K90metalog
/etc/rc0.d/S10metalog /etc/rc3.d/K90metalog /etc/rc5.d/S10metalog
/etc/rc1.d/K90metalog /etc/rc3.d/S10metalog /etc/rc6.d/K90metalog
/etc/rc1.d/S10metalog /etc/rc4.d/K90metalog /etc/rc6.d/S10metalog
/etc/rc2.d/K90metalog /etc/rc4.d/S10metalog

Unless perhaps for a bug in the binary (but i haven't found trace of
it), there should not be any reason to stop and restart the daemon every
time you change runlevel. However, rl 0 and 6 should contain only one
symlink, otherwise the init script is called twice (both with stop
action, as in these runlevels the S or K prefix isn't relevant).

I think line 6 in metalog.postinst could be substituted by:
update-rc.d metalog defaults 10 90 >/dev/null 2>&1

Thanks,
Gian Piero.

Package: cvs-conf
Version: 0.0.1-6
Severity: normal

This package is completly lacking in documentation with the exception of
the USAGE file, which does not explain how it works or how to set it up
and use it, but only the base basics of the usage of some Makefile. Very
confusingly, there are no files in the package except those in
/usr/share/doc. If you expect a user to somehow grok how this thing
works from the USAGE file and reading the Makefile, I think you just cut
your userbase in half. No, into hundredths..

Package: cvs-conf
Version: 0.0.1-6
Severity: serious

Policy says:

Files in `/usr/share/doc' should not be referenced by any program, and
the system administrator should be able to delete them without causing
any programs to break. Any files that are referenced by programs but
are also useful as standalone documentation should be installed under
 `/usr/share//' with symbolic links from
 `/usr/share/doc//'.

This package's postinst is, in part:

EXAMPLES=/usr/share/doc/cvs-conf/examples
...
cd ${EXAMPLES}/config
...
cvs -d ${cvs_root} import -m "" ${cvs_module} cvs-conf start

In other words, it imports the examples/config directory into some cvs server.
In the future when dpkg supports exclusion of files, this will break on systems
where /usr/share/doc is excluded; that's why policy requires that you put
these files somewhere else.

(this text is generic for "po-debconf switch" bug reports. If something is
specific to your package, look at the end of this BR)

Using the "new" gettext format for debconf templates helps for templates
translations. For instance, detecting outdated or untranslated strings
becomes considerably easier. It also keeps track of who did which translation.

The attached patch does the required modifications :
- debian/control modification for dependencies (see below)
- execute "debconf-gettextize debian/*templates*"
- removed files left by debconf-gettextize (*.templates.old which are the
old-style templates and *.templates.xx which are the former translated
  templates
- french translation proofreading (the file is debian/po/fr.po) if a french
translation (partial or not) already existed for the templates

Then diff file creation

I, in the same time, started to work on a french translation if none
was there. In such case, the fr.po file will be sent to you through
another BR.

If you want to reproduce this by yourself instead of applying the
patch, you have to do:

-install po-debconf on your system
-go to the debian directory
-read man po-debconf..:-)
-run "debconf-gettextize *.templates"
-read the output
-change Build-Depends or Build-Depends-Indep (see below)

Then you will pick up the fr.po file from my own patch (I often make small
corrections to existing french translations to make them conformant to
the existing standards of the Debian french l10n team).

Build Dependencies of the package have to become the following :

Build-Depends(-Indep) should list "debhelper (>= 4.1.16)" (debhelper
depends upon po-debconf) if you use debhelper, or "po-debconf"
directly if you don't (but, then, please look at po-debconf man page)

For more details, see po-debconf documentation, especially "man 7 po-debconf"

Read this if you're concerned with backports :

Please note that the suggested modifications will make your
package a little bit harder to backport to earlier Debian releases. If
this is a concern to you, you may try to adopt the method used by the
openssh package and detailed by Colin Watson in
http://lists.debian.org/debian-i18n/2003/debian-i18n-200307/msg00026.h

Severity: normal

I like the simplicity of metalog and would prefer it to sysklog if
metalog could be configured to direct output to the fifo /dev/xconsole
as well as to log files. (If metalog can do this now, then the
documentation needs to explain more clearly.)
