Bug#201513: libgtop-dev: preinst fails if doc directory isn't a symlink

2003-07-16 Thread warner-debbugs
Package: libgtop-dev
Version: 1.0.13-7
Severity: grave

/var/lib/dpkg/info/libgtop-dev.preinst contains the following:

--
#!/bin/sh

[ -L /usr/share/doc/libgtop-dev ] && rm /usr/share/doc/libgtop-dev
--

If the doc directory is not a symlink, this line returns an exit status of 1
and the preinst fails, causing the package installation to fail. This will
happen when the package is being installed for the first time or when it is
upgraded from any version which didn't use a symlink.

I think a simple 'exit 0' as the last line of the preinst would fix the
problem.

thanks,
-Brian

Subject: lshell: Shells started by lshell are not login shells
To:
X-Mailer: bug 3.1.7

Package: lshell
Version: 2.01-9

When lshell exec's the shell it is supposed to run, it does the following:
[pid 989] execve("/bin/bash", ["bash"], [/* 6 vars */]) = 0

However, bash needs a hyphen ('-') prepended to argv[0] in order to
recognize that it is a login shell. login(1) does the following:
[pid 989] execve("/bin/lshells/bash", ["-/bin/lshells/bash"], [/* 6 vars */]

lshell should to the same. It did previously; I don't know what changed (I
don't suppose that installing a pam-based login could have impacted lshell).

The impact of this bug is that users logging in at the console or via telnet
don't have /etc/profile or ~/.bash_profile executed by their shells, which
is bad.

Regards,

Hello,

The menu package include a menu entry for xftp. This
is deprecated, this should be in the xftp package itself.

Here it is

---/usr/lib/menu/xftp---
?package(xftp):needs="x11" section="Apps/Net" title="xftp" command="xftp"

I will keep this entry in menu until this bug is closed.

Cheers,

X-Mailer: reportbug 1.50

Delivered-To:

Package: lshell
Version: N/A; reported 2002-09-21
Severity: normal

The default limits for lshell v2.01-11 are set for 24 open files and 30
processes. This is not enough for a user to have multiple sessions or
even run a single copy of mozilla.

If the admin doesn't realize lshell is installed, its very difficult
to figure out where these mysterious limits are coming from. You can't even
grep for it; the numbers which appear in "ulimit -a" are abreviated in
/etc/lshell.conf and lshell doesn't make a note of its presence in any
of the standard locations for adjusting system rlimits (e.g.
/etc/limits, /etc/security/limits.conf).

This renders the system effectively unusable if lshell is installed by
mistake (e.g. during an upgrade when you're yessing everything that
comes by).

Suggested fixes: Set the defaults near the normal parameters for a debian
linux system. Tweak system limits.conf with a comment to the effect that
additional control is provided by lshell.conf.

Hello,
I think lshell should ask to change the default shell to the lshell version
in adduser.conf. I know, there will be the problem, that packages are not
allowed to change files in other packages then themselves.

With kind regards

Package: lshell
Version: 2.01-10
Severity: normal

lshell silently assumes that the absolute path of the login shell has
exactly only one occurrence of the string "/lshells". This may surprise
a user. At least this should be documented somewhere.

libming override disparity

2003-07-16 Thread Debian Installer
There are disparities between your recently accepted upload and the
override file for the following file(s):

python2.2-ming_0.2a.cvs20030716-1_i386.deb: package says section is
interpreters, override says python.
libming-dev_0.2a.cvs20030716-1_i386.deb: package says section is devel,
override says libdevel.
libswf-perl_0.2a.cvs20030716-1_i386.deb: package says section is interpreters,
override says perl.
python2.1-ming_0.2a.cvs20030716-1_i386.deb: package says section is
interpreters, override says python.

Either the package or the override file is incorrect. If you think
the override is correct and the package wrong please fix the package
so that this disparity is fixed in the next upload. If you feel the
override is incorrect then please reply to this mail and explain why.
