Hi,

Is there any news on this bug?

It is my understanding that the FTP masters want to retire Packages.gz
shortly before the Stretch release.

I did not find the time to implement the hack that ben uses for decompression
so far.

That will mean that unless some magical xz equivalent to libbz2-ocaml and
libzip-ocaml pops up, users of dose3 tools will have to decompress their
Packages and Sources files themselves manually before using them with dose3.
