Yeah, in fact this was proposed here before:

Jul 24 Luca - De Whiskey's - [0.7K] New wnpp tag: Request For
(Co-Maintainer|Help|Whatever)

Unfortunately I haven't had the time yet to say it's probably a good
idea, and noone else said anything.

2003-08-09 Thread Jarno Elonen
Package: qa.debian.org
Version: unavailable; reported 2003-08-09

The Debian logo in the top of the page is currently coded in HTML as...

...causing ugly looking underscores (underlined spaces) just before
and after the image on many browsers because they interpret the linefeeds
as whitespaces. This can be fixed by putting the whole thing on the same line
or by breaking the lines inside the tags:

I see it as two dots between two images. We need a "insanely anal" severity.

For me they are almost as wide as the mouse pointer but yes, I agree with the
severity. :)

Seriously though, little bugs in visual appearance too often make quality
software/services look amateursih. Being a part-time webmaster & designer,
you just develop a certain allergy for such things..

True, especially the last one almost makes me puke every time I see it. Still,
in the HTML the ugliness only bugs the maintainer for a few minutes while on
the pages it bugs quite a few users and much more often.

Yuk. Non-compliant browsers again... which ones in particular do this?

At least Konqueror 3.1.3. and Mozilla 1.4.
Is there really some standard saying this shouldn't happen?

i believe that the newlines are treated as whitespace and so the
browsers are actually correct in displaying the "underscores".
