Package: csh
Version: N/A
Severity: normal

Hi,
(for the Hurd, this is an important bug as csh won't build).

dir.c and other files amke unconditional use of MAXPATHLEN.
However, on the Hurd this symbol is not defined, because there is no
upper limit.

The POSIXly right thing is to query a possible run time limit with
pathconf(), and if that returns -1, deal with arbitrary path lengths
by making good use of malloc()/realloc() [the standard library calls return
ENAMETOOLONG and similar if the space is not yet enough].

BTW, in glibc, there exist other interfaces that don't make use of a fixed
size buffer, for example get_current_dir_name. You can make use of them if
you check for GLIBC and define _GNU_SOURCE before including the header
files like this:

#ifdef __GLIBC__
#define _GNU_SOURCE
#endif

#include

Thanks,
Marcus

Actually the segfault might be due to the resource limits now that I get
a better look at it (whereas perhaps it would have looped had there been
no file descriptor limits set).

Thanks.

Subject: file expansion in csh
Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Package: csh
Version: 5.26-10

There is a moderately important bug in the filename expansion handling in
csh that causes behavior not in accord with the manual. The relevant line
of the manual (`man csh | tail +551 | head` on my system) is:

  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .   In a list of words specifying filename substitu-
  tion it is an error for no pattern to match an existing file name, but it
  is not required for each pattern to match.   .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .

The bug is that csh DOES require each pattern to match. It rejects a whole
command line if any pattern fails to match. Here is a transcript:

 % uname -a
 Linux ocelot 2.2.17 #1 SMP Sun Dec 10 12:55:22 PST 2000 i686 unknown
 % ls -l /lib/libc-2.1.3.so
 -rwxr-xr-x1 root root   887712 Jan 15 12:06 /lib/libc-2.1.3.so
 % ls
 apple  banana  typescript
 % ls a*
 apple
 % ls a* b*
 apple  banana
 % rm banana
 % ls a* b*
 ls: No match.

This was discovered when a simple TeX directory cleanup like

 rm *.aux *.dvi *.log *.ps

failed to work due to the accidental absence of files with one of the
designated extensions.

Version: as in unstable on March 24th

According to the Contents file for unstable, xringd contains
at least one file in /usr/man/. That directory is deprecated,
and policy says that packages should place man pages in /usr/share/man/
instead.

Please update your package soon to use the FHS compliant manual page
location so woody can ship with its man pages in a consistent, FHS
compliant state. Thank you.

   (Anything better?)

Bug#58259: Patch?

2001-04-14 Thread Matt Zimmerman
I confess to knowing almost nothing about writing Perl XS modules, but the
typemap file here really shouldn't be using anything with a double underscore
in front of it. Also, isn't this all unnecessary because the XS language
already provide a way to get at a variable number of arguments? The
documentation seems to indicate this, but I'm not comfortable enough with XS to
try the conversion.

Meanwhile, I was able to get it to compile on Alpha using this patch:

--- libnewt-perl-1.08/typemap   Sat Apr 14 19:10:51 2001
+++ libnewt-perl-1.08+mdz/typemap   Sat Apr 14 19:10:19 2001
@@ -34,8 +34,7 @@

-   IV tmp = SvIV((SV*)SvRV($arg));
-   __va_copy($var, tmp);
+   $var = *(va_list *)SvANY((SV*)SvRV($arg));
}
else

But there are no self-tests, and I don't have an Alpha available where I can
install and test it. If someone else could give it a whirl, maybe we can
get these old bugs closed.
