Getting rid of python-support?

2014-04-30 Thread Luca Falavigna
Hi,

python-central is gone (\o/) and python-support usage is slowly
decreasing in the archive:
http://lintian.debian.org/tags/dh_pysupport-is-obsolete.html

Do you think it would be the right time to prepare a mass bug filing
asking to convert to dh_python{2,3}?

Cheers,
Luca

Given it's like less than 200 packages left, let's do it now. This is
smaller than e.g. a boost transition.

Are python-apps/modules all converted now? Might be easy to just do
mass-commit & upload of those first.

Is there a lintian test that complains about this? I think it'd be better to
start with that.

that would be good. However before we start this, I'd like to make sure that we
get rid of /usr/share/pyshared as well. With PEP 404 [1] reconfirmed this year
at PyCon we can safely remove the symlink farm.

If PEP 404 is ever update to actually release, then it would be
reasonable to expect/demand for PEP 3147 to be implemented / included.

This tag doesn't catch indirect use of python-support, via dh or cdbs.
The actual number of affect packages is much higher.

Quite. On ubuntu, there are at least 537 packages build-depending on
python-support which suggests indeed that above lintian tag is by far
not catching everything.

git-buildpackage python3

2014-04-30 Thread Alex Mestiashvili

Greetings everybody,

I started packaging of python-multipletau [0] and added python3 stanza
to the control file fgollowing guidelines from
https://wiki.debian.org/Python/LibraryStyleGuide and
https://wiki.debian.org/Python/Pybuild

However when I try to build the package using git-buildpackage and a
minimal base system I get the following:

git-buildpackage --git-pbuilder --git-arch=amd64
dh clean --with python2,python3 --buildsystem=pybuild
   dh_testdir -O--buildsystem=pybuild
   dh_auto_clean -O--buildsystem=pybuild
pybuild --clean -i python{version} -p 2.7 --dir .
I: pybuild base:170: python2.7 setup.py clean
running clean
removing
'/home/toor/debian-med/python-multipletau/.pybuild/pythonX.Y_2.7/build'
(and everything under it)

'build/bdist.linux-x86_64' does not exist -- can't clean it
'build/scripts-2.7' does not exist -- can't clean it
pybuild --clean -i python{version} -p "3.3 3.4" --dir .
I: pybuild base:170: python3.3 setup.py clean
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "setup.py", line 4, in
from setuptools import setup, find_packages
ImportError: No module named 'setuptools'
E: pybuild pybuild:256: clean: plugin distutils failed with: exit
code=1: python3.3 setup.py clean
dh_auto_clean: pybuild --clean -i python{version} -p 3.3 3.4 --dir .
returned exit code 13

make: *** [clean] Error 13

I looked on some other python3 packages and for example I get a similar
result for python-dnsq package:

gbp-clone git://anonscm.debian.org/collab-maint/python-dnsq.git

/tmp/test/python-dnsq$ git-buildpackage --git-pbuilder --git-arch=amd64
dh clean --with python2,python3 --buildsystem=pybuild
   dh_testdir -O--buildsystem=pybuild
   dh_auto_clean -O--buildsystem=pybuild
I: pybuild base:170: python2.7 setup.py clean
running clean
removing '/tmp/test/python-dnsq/.pybuild/pythonX.Y_2.7/build' (and
everything under it)

'build/bdist.linux-x86_64' does not exist -- can't clean it
'build/scripts-2.7' does not exist -- can't clean it
I: pybuild base:170: python3.4 setup.py clean
/bin/sh: 1: python3.4: not found
E: pybuild pybuild:256: clean: plugin distutils failed with: exit
code=127: python3.4 setup.py clean
dh_auto_clean: pybuild --clean -i python{version} -p 3.4 3.3 --dir .
returned exit code 13

make: *** [clean] Error 13
gbp:error: Couldn't run 'fakeroot debian/rules clean': fakeroot
debian/rules clean returned 2

So, I assume that there is something wrong with git-buildpackage or
pbuilder... or pybuild...

Just for the reference here is the very beginning of the thread:
https://lists.debian.org/debian-mentors/2014/04/msg00343.html

I would appreciate any help,
thank you,
Alex

git-buildpackage runs the clean target before exporting the dsc so you
need the build dependencies installed on the host for pybuild.
you can disable that with --git-cleaner=true

yes, this was exactly the problem I was hitting, but using
--git-cleaner=true didn't work for me.
The problem was solved by installing python3-setuptools on the host
system. ( now it is very obvious :) )
