Bug#555048: RFA: sqlobject
Package: wnpp Severity: normal I'm going to orphan SQLObject because I don't use it anymore in my projects; the package is already maintained within the debian-python-modules team. MBF: embedded copies of Python modules
I am going to file a few dozens of bugs against packages that are embedding copies of Python modules; more specifically: - modules available as separate Debian packages: argparse, beautifulsoup, clientform, coherence, configobj, elementtree, feedparser, mechanize, pexpect, ply, pyparsing, simpletal, urlgrabber; - standard Python library modules; - msgfmt.py script. You can check which packages is your package known to be embedding in the embedded-code-copies file: http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/secure-testing/data/embedded-code-copies (Nota bene the file documents many more embeds that I didn't have time to properly review. You are welcome to fix those bugs, too.) Justification: Debian Policy 4.13 (Convenience copies of code). Proposed severity: normal. Tags/usertags: suggestions are welcome. This is because it uses some features in txt2tags's VCS that aren't yet released, and I'm already working closely with upstream to remove the embedded copy (hence my ongoing work on the txt2tags package for sid). -- Jonathan Wiltshire 1024D: 0xDB800B52 / 4216 F01F DCA9 21AC F3D3 A903 CA6B EA3E DB80 0B52 4096R: 0xD3524C51 / 0A55 B7C5 1223 3942 86EC 74C3 5394 479D D352 4C51 signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Python 2.6 in unstable
Dear Debian Python, Most of the Python 2.6 transition bugs have been fixed, and the remaining ones are only some leaf packages, as can be seen here: http://tiny.pl/hqwjz With the last upload of python-central, only a few issues with python-central remain, before python 2.6 can be uploaded to unstable, as has been outlined by Piotr here: http://lists.debian.org/debian-python/2009/11/msg00014.html Given this, could you please let me know when Python 2.6 can be uploaded to unstable? I'd really like to see it in unstable quickly, so that we have enough time for testing all Python applications and modules, and handle bug reports and troubles with a lot of time to spare. I fear that delaying the upload to close to the freeze might not provide sufficient time for testing. Thanks. Kumar -- Kumar Appaiah signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Re: MBF: embedded copies of Python modules
2009/11/8 Jakub Wilk : > I am going to file a few dozens of bugs against packages that are embedding > copies of Python modules; more specifically: Do you mean that all these packages need to stick to the stable standard version of some Module available in Debian? I personally think that fit is a bad idea, because by upgrading such Module it is possible to break Python Application that require older version of the Module for its equivalent stable version. How does Debian Policy 4.13 (Convenience copies of code) deal in this case? Is it possible for Python Applications to maintain their own set of "stable" modules independently? For example by building virtualenv upon installation and filling missing dependencies online through custom mirror of PyPi packages with added Debian specifics? -- anatoly t. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-python-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
